Injustice: Gods Among Us' alternate costumes will be unlocked with an experience system With images of various alternated costumes being released for Injustice: Gods Among Us, fans have been curious how we would unlock them. Ed Boon gave us a quick hint at the system on Twitter.

RsButcher: We've seen plenty of awesome alternate costumes, but how are they unlocked my friend?

Ed Boon: We gotta great XP system.

i encourage this , hopefully more fighting games can go back to unlocking costumes etc just by playing or doing a certain requirement with the char.

Phynx said on March 15, 2013 at 8:26 p.m.

Considering a PC version and adding unlockable bonuses? This game is starting to sound pretty appealing.

I haven't the foggiest why I just read Boon's response in the Zero 3 Announcer voice.

PowerBeard said on March 15, 2013 at 8:36 p.m.

Good Guy Neatherrealm, breaking the trend of paying for costumes that do nothing for you accept be aesthetically appealing. Every character is unique with unique moves, no clones with slightly different normals/specials
Even in MK9 the ninjas were unique. Neatherrealm has not failed to displease. People complain just because they can.

That's probably one alternate costume just like in MK 9 you had or to "buy it" in the Kripta or finish the game with the char in arcade mode. The DLC costumes probably won't even be on the Disc (once they said once that the DLCs for this game won't be in the disc)

@1 I don't want to jump the gun but in MK9 save for the pre-order skins the other DLC Skins were free along with compatibility packs for DLC characters so whose to really say injustice won't have the same business model?

TrapcomLovesKayo said on March 15, 2013 at 9:16 p.m.

I dont know why people are so excited you got something similar in mk9 and dont act like they wont make you pay for extra costumes like the new 52 skins later on.

I heard only in legend that there was a time that if you played the game, you would unlock certain content pertaining to the completed task.

Is this some kind of unknown prophecy that is being fulfilled? Is this a resurrection of the old legend finally breathing new life? Will I actually be able to keep a little extra cash? Why exactly now is this happening? Did the Disc Content Gods hear the cries of their people, begging for less bulls**t and decide to respond by actually letting their people be given a full game?

All I can do is stand in awe as I am a witness to a miracle being born!

SilentBob said on March 15, 2013 at 9:41 p.m.

Wait. Wait. So if I get this straight, no on disc DLC? What universe am I in? Am I dreaming? But I can feel it when I'm pinching myself, but sometimes I only think I feel it, but I actually don't. Or maybe I died? Is this what paradise is? If it is, I like it.

TrapcomLovesKayo said on March 15, 2013 at 9:53 p.m.

@14 Probably the pre-order dlc skins and missions from gamestop or they might make it a day one compatibility patch if they dont want it on disc.

gammabolt17 said on March 15, 2013 at 10:04 p.m.

A compatibility patch that certain people who don't have the dlc won't even bother to download, meaning that people that do have it won't be able to use them against certain people because of that reason. Then people will be crying about that, just like with MK9.

theshredder39 said on March 15, 2013 at 10:07 p.m.

Unlocking things for characters through experience in a fighting game? I think that's the best way to go about something like that when it comes to this genre, the only games I can think of that did this are Soul Calibur 4 and Playstation All-Stars.

TrapcomLovesKayo said on March 15, 2013 at 10:23 p.m.

KCJ506 said on March 15, 2013 at 10:36 p.m.

That's good to know. That's how it should it been done in MK9. It was ridiculous that I couldn't use the character I downloaded online because the other person didn't download the pack.(which was free)

NyuBomber said on March 15, 2013 at 10:43 p.m.

I don't have a problem paying for more alternates, especially if there's some in-game obtainable already.

Razberryclownsac said on March 15, 2013 at 10:54 p.m.

It was the same in MK9. Each had 1 alt after beating Ladder mode (arcade), then they had some others that were dlc. Some we free, while others were paid. And they did eventually force people to download the patch so you could use dlc characters. I remember some getting mad because they didn't want to fight "50 Freddy Krugers in a row" lol.

skitz0phrenic said on March 15, 2013 at 11:33 p.m.

And when the game has super average sales and fades out after its initial 4 month "new and shiny" phase, the developers will wish they would've charged those extra microtransactions.

I even think the game looks sweet and really fun, but let's be honest here it isn't going to last.

compbros said on March 16, 2013 at 4:50 a.m.

Yes, there will probably be a DLC pack for the pre-order stuff for people that'd like all the content and won't pre-order from 15 different places. There also may DLC packs for different alts like a PowerGirl/Superboy skin/voice/intro and outro for Superman or John Stewart/Guy Gardner/Kyle Rayner Alt for Green Lantern.

mozart0341 said on March 16, 2013 at 5:02 a.m.

Either pre order if not then grind to unlock alt skins, thats how it should be...FAIR.

Am I the only one here who wished that Bane's alternate costume was the Tom Hardy outfit(s) from The Dark Knight Rises? I've seen enough of Bane's regular costumes in the comics and the Batman games, its time for a change. If Green Arrow gets his alternate costume and voice actor from the Arrow TV show, Bane should be allowed his TDKR (and maybe Tom Hardy's voice over)...

NABFear said on March 16, 2013 at 5:59 a.m.

(Also I'm not trying to start a flame war here) but totally agree with other comments about Namco & NeatherRealm Studios showing Capcom how its done :-D That FREE s*** for being a good consumer is what we deserve! Not that wallet raping s*** Capcom keep pulling.

AdonVega said on March 16, 2013 at 5:59 a.m.

I pre ordered this game and I am really excited for this. I am hopeful that the gameplay will be strong, hopefully better than MK9(which I had no issues with, but lets be real, improve on things). I am getting that beautiful fight stick that alot of people are quacking about, and I suppose DLC skins. I am really happy that most of the DLC that I have heard of comes with missions. I'm not sure what these missions entail, but I am assuming it will be like that ladder shiz I had so much fun with in MK9. I for one love screaming at my screen until finally I get the unlock able, honestly, it makes the game fun. NOW, the online play better be stellar or I will forever give up on NR. That was my ONLY gripe with MK9, could not even put a lobby together with friends without it dropping, so here`s to hoping this game does what MK9 could not do.

alfarin said on March 16, 2013 at 6:15 a.m.

NRS was told by WB to stay away from The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel.

gammabolt17 said on March 16, 2013 at 10:06 a.m.

Don't nobody but you want that midget ass non-Bane anyway...that costume is just as sh!tty as the ones in the game already. A fit (but not as fit as Bane) guy wearing a bullet proof vest and a dumb ass breathing apparatus. BINO...Bane in name only...with an even dumber psuedo-Sean Connery voice (which admittedly entertained me).

And you are trying to start a damn flame war, that's why you said you aren't so you don't have to feel like a dipsh!t about it. Watch people still show up mainly to see AE and Marvel. While people like you cry about the fact that NRS still focuses more on cosmetics and leave the characters playing like wood puppets. Now I'M trying to start a flame war (even though I am getting this day 1).

gammabolt17 said on March 16, 2013 at 10:14 a.m.

No, but it is cosmetic bs that doesn't enhance the game AT ALL. Hopefully those costumes make the game play better, because last time I checked, MK9 still animated like sh!t.

Yeah, like when TTT2 was on the horizon, really got Capcom's goat, huh? Or MK9...or BB...or P4A...or SG...Capcom doesn't give a damn, especially since crybabies like you keep lacing their pockets with duckets. Nothing NRS or any other FG company makes this gen or next gen will be on UMVC3 or AE's level. Keep the haterade coming though.

genocide_cutter said on March 16, 2013 at 10:50 a.m.

Take notes Capcom

NABFear said on March 16, 2013 at 10:56 a.m.

@compbros #44 - If WB told NRS to stay away, why the hell does the Batman costume in the Injustice comic and game look like the one from Nolan's trilogy? (Unless its from a comic I don't know of.)

@gammabolt17 #45 - Lets face it, the last time Bane was popular or even heard of/recognized, was when he first broke Batman's back in the 1990s. Since then no one has given 2 s**** about who or what he is until 2012, courtesy of Nolan's TDKR Bane played by Tom Hardy (and I dare say now he is far more popular than he ever was before.) Bane needed an update/change compared to his ridiculous mexican wrestler attire, and it doesn't make sense to me to not include the most popular version in this game.

NABFear said on March 16, 2013 at 11:12 a.m.

@gammabolt17 #45 - Also just because SF4AE and UMVC3 are most popular in the FGC doesn't mean they are overall to the rest of the world, Capcom as a company make more than just fighting games, and to my knowledge RE6 failed to hit targets, so had/has the Super and Arcade Editions of SF4, and the UMVC3 update for Marvel failed to hit sales targets aswell (someone correct me if I am wrong, but I'm sure I saw the sales target failures on this site.) Even DMC4 failed to hit targets and follow the success of DMC3 (DMC being one of Capcoms most infamous titles.)

Are you seeing the theme? Capcom seem to have a habit of f****** up their titles as they go along OR f****** over consumers as they go along and it has bitten them in the arse multiple times. You being too blind to see this are content with them raping your wallet -_- How can you be content with them brining out multiple iterations of the same game and charging you for it, then bringing out extras and charging your for it when no other FG company does this?!

Incase you haven't forgotten it was your beloved Capcom's SFIII: 3rd Strike that killed the SF franchise for 10 years whilst Namco's Tekken ploughed on and continued to succeed in that time gap. Finally to my knowledge (again someone correct me if I am wrong) Namco & NRS have not failed to hit their sales targets with TTT2 and MK9. Capcom deserve to be put on blast for the s*** they have pulled recently, wake up to reality man. #FlameWarEnded

compbros said on March 16, 2013 at 12:01 p.m.

There may be similar elements but it's not a 1:1, it's just very armored and the cowl looks similar. Boon literally said in an interview "one of the few restrictions we had was that we couldn't use the movies so nothing from Man of Steel or Dark Knight".

NABFear said on March 16, 2013 at 12:36 p.m.

Thank you Mr.Boon... I hope that we are still going to have some DLC afterwards.

GSpOt said on March 16, 2013 at 2:46 p.m.

oh really? nice to know that, cuz ppl are getting tired of wasting money on little things that could be free/unlockable.

A really cool idea is the classic customs of some chars, like in MK9 when u guys release the Classic MK2 Skins of Scorpion,Sub-zero,Ermac,Smoke etc... that would be cool.

I've seen ppl asking for the John Stewart/Guy Gardner Skin for Green Lantern, and thats a really cool idea as well, just like u guys did with Green Arrow/Arrow from the TV Show with the same voice actor, that would be perfect.

gammabolt17 said on March 16, 2013 at 3:36 p.m.

Actually, I'm pretty sure DMC4 is the highest selling game in the franchise. I have no idea why you saying all that "beloved Capcom" stuff over and over when I support pretty much every fighter out there (though I suck at a good majority of them). I only said anything because you meant to start a flame war and I was calling it out. I also can't remember one time Capcom raped my wallet either. Don't want the costumes? Don't buy. That easy. Are we really going to cry about the SFxT characters when all 12 of them cost the same as 4 DLC characters in MK9?

LOL @ "How can you be content with them bringing out multiple iterations of the same game"

Did you just start playing fighting games last year or something? Take me back to a time when Capcom DIDN'T bring out multiple iterations of a game. Why fools like you are just crying about it now just underlines your ignorance and shines a light on dumb Capcom bias that people never want to admit to.

I play fighting games to FIGHT, I'm not bout to cry about getting charged for a stupid costume when many games charge for them and they add NOTHING to the game itself. If you suck with Bane, you will still suck with B: TAS Bane as well. Doesn't matter, not crucial to the game at all. What bull you talking about Capcom pulling, they ain't pulling nothing worse than the rest of the industry, and "multiple iterations" have been here for Capcom since SF2.

You have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Just hive mind stupidity. The entire industry tries to scheme up bucks in different ways, don't be an idiot, or at least be informed, because you are certainly not, with all that misinformation in one post. This is not a flame war, this is you saying dumb sh!t and wanting people to correct your ignorance.

Razberryclownsac said on March 16, 2013 at 3:50 p.m.

I don't know that I would want Hardy's Bane even if we could have him. Could you imagine having him and Ledger's Joker? I think they would look very odd in this game, especially since the whole point of Nolan's trilogy was to be more realistic.

NABFear said on March 16, 2013 at 4:38 p.m.

@gammabolt17 No, the problem comes in with the fact that I want the costumes/stages etc to keep the game fresh otherwise it becomes boring. Yes it is a fighting game and the primary focus should be on the fighting not the asthetics, but after a while looking at the same image becomes boring, so its nice to have a change. My issue is that other fighting game companys are giving it all for free except for Capcom. As for characters, I live in the UK and I'm pretty sure I didn't pay as much for 4 MK9 characters as someone would for SFxTKN DLC characters (I didn't buy them at all.)

For iterations you have me, I should have said I meant recently i.e. UMVC3 came out 9 months after MVC3, SFxTKN (a half completed game) came out, then 4 months later the extra 12 characters + patches etc came out to make the game more "complete." Arcade Edition came out just under a year of SuperSF4, the 2012 patch to repair the OPness of the twins (which was for once free) came out 6 months later. Atleast in the past they waited a year or more before bringing out another version of the game(s), now its been reduced to months apart, do they think we are made of money? Or have a constant supply of money to spend on just games? You don't see NRS or Namco do this...

Next time I'll just agree with the rest of the comments on a post without saying: "Also I'm not trying to start a flame war here." I think I will just agree to disagree with you on this particular post. Oh by the way, my ignorance is bliss :-P

NABFear said on March 16, 2013 at 4:54 p.m.

@Razberryclownsac #57 - I see what you mean about Nolan’s world and Injustice being a fully-fledged comic book game. But Batman in here looks very similar to Nolan’s Batman (even the same skinniness as Christian Bale, The Dark Knight is supposed to be 15stone; Nolan’s did not look anywhere close to that.) Surely this Batman in Injustice should look more like the Batman: Arkham Asylum/City version (he looks 15stone, hell he looks as if he’s built like a tank.)

What I’m trying to say is if they can use the BM they are currently using in here (Bale look-a-like BM), Tom Hardy’s Bane looks like it would be able to fit in really well. But that request has been crushed as Compbros explained :-(

hellbly said on March 17, 2013 at 2:56 a.m.

I agree with you, but in the alt skin showed in the last fight against Wonder Woman, Batman looks bulkier

DumbDLC said on March 17, 2013 at 3:25 a.m.

@31 capcom left came back and now they can do no wrong, they have been making more and more mediocre games and people just allow it. You want to talk about the past 20 years look at their games then and now and see that they are cutting content they USED to put in games so yea. Capcom is mainstream people love watching it but when other companies do something that is for their fans capcom deserves a little bashing and maybe they will get the picture and stop being so damn cheap

It's funny that some of you think this means Injustice won't have DLC when Boon and a bunch of other people from NRS already said they plan to support the game long-term with DLC. Just because you can unlock alts in Injustice does not eliminate the presence of DLC. You unlocked costumes in MK9 as well, what is new here? The MAIN POINT OF THIS ARTICLE is the experience system used to unlock content, not the existence of alts to unlock. What is wrong with some of you?

We already KNOW there's gonna be DLC costumes AND characters. Knock it off. I don't want to see any of you children start crying about how NRS "lied" to you when the first batch of DLC is put out with a price tag. I mean, of course you guys will because that's how spoiled children on the internet operate.

"My issue is that other fighting game companys are giving it all for free except for Capcom."

This is EXACTLY the hive-mind stupidity that gammabolt17 is talking about.

From children looking to piss on Capcom at any opportunity. It's seriously tiresome to go into the comments section of a game that has NOTHING to do with Capcom and see a bunch of idiots take every opportunity to spew Capcom hate instead of keeping the conversation about the game at hand. You'll notice a grand total of three people even commented on the experience system. Out of 63 comments. What the hell.

NABFear said on March 17, 2013 at 11:54 a.m.

^^Don't worry you won't see any post about me being a child and whining about any DLC for Injustice, and yes I also see and understand what he said yesterday about my hive-mind stupidity.
