Killer Instinct to have smaller roster of characters, content will be released at steady cadence and new characters may be added with player interest Microsoft's Torin Rettig recently spoke to Polygon about the upcoming Xbox One exclusive title, Killer Instinct. The Microsoft representative mentions that Killer Instinct will be host to a smaller roster of characters as to not overwhelm players.

He states that games now have massive casts of playable fighters but most people do not have the time to learn them all. With the option of downloading characters by choice, everyone can play the game at their own pace.
Most fighting games that come out are disc based games where you get a huge cast of awesome characters, but it is a massive cast.

Some games have anywhere between 30, 40, even 50 characters. And in reality, most players don’t play that many characters.

You just only have so much time to get good at so many characters. So we wanted to take that into consideration and release the game in a way that took that into consideration and allowed players to get in and play the game at the level that they want to play it.

Additionally, it has been confirmed by Double Helix that although Killer Instinct's demo will be free-to-play, players can purchase the equivalent of a Season Pass that will include the entire Killer Instinct package. The company expressed that characters will be released at a steady cadence and new characters may be added along the way if players show interest.

We want to release characters at a regular cadence and will continue to add new characters to the game as long as players are interested.

Pricing information is yet to be revealed and Killer Instinct remains a digital Xbox One launch title, regardless of which version of the game you choose.
