AllisBrawl, Smashboards and Project M attacked by hackers, top Smash Bros. community sites currently offline It has been reported by AlphaZealot, owner of Smashboards, that multiple, large Super Smash Bros. community websites have been served with denial of service attacks (disabling a website's server with high traffic). AllisBrawl, SmashBoards and Project M, the site dedicated to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl mod, have all allegedly been hit and are currently offline.

AllisBrawl was the first to suffer such an attack on August 15th, and has been fighting off subsequent strikes since then. The following day, Smashboards encountered a bit of data loss when they too underwent incursion. Project M was the last to go offline after being hit by similar attacks.

AlphaZealot had this to say on the matter: "All of the owners of these sites (myself, Strongbad/Warchamp, and Neal/JV) are working together to bring things back online and we are sharing information about potential solutions."

Warchamp of Project M ensured Kotaku that there is a solution to this problem, however, it may be too expensive to pursue at the moment. Hit the jump to read Warchamp's statement.

We are personally fortunate enough to have an understanding server host who has cooperated with us during this situation. Unfortunately, the only viable solution to the problem at this moment is expensive and not something we can easily pursue. If this is somehow still ongoing in a week or so, we do have a plan to mitigate these attacks.

It appears as though these unknown assailants have specifically targeted Super Smash Bros. community sites, and have effectively shut them down for the time being. As stated by AlphaZealot and Warchamp, the site owners are currently working on getting everything up and running once again.

Although Project M is decommissioned at this time, you can still download their Super Smash Bros. Brawl mod, here.
