Jago free at launch in Killer Instinct, Double Helix aiming to feature other free characters in the future

Since the announcement of Killer Instinct at E3 earlier this year, we've known that players will have the option to download the game free of charge, with one playable character: Jago. Since then, fans grew concerned that this may result in too many Jago players online, leading to a less enjoyable online experience.
In order to combat this issue, Microsoft will be switching out which character is available to play for free, periodically. Jago will be the first free character, and after three months, a different character will replace him.
Killer Instinct Creative Director Ken Lobb stated that swapping out the free character every so often will allow players to sample more than just Jago and will keep people playing free of charge for years.
Additionally, Microsoft will employ a League of Legends style system for switching out the character that is free to play at any given time. Jago will be free at launch, but around three months later he will be switched out for another character. "So in that sense you can play for free over years and sample more than just Jago," Lobb said.
