Sony Santa Monica Studios still committed to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale The Sony Santa Monica Twitter was recently asked if they still had plans of DLC or patches to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. A lot of people assumed after the recent patch that they were done and the game wouldn't be touched anymore.

While not going into details, Sony Santa Monica replied giving a small update about the current status of the game.

Our studio is still very much committed to #PSAllStars, at this time, that is all we can update with for the moment

Back in early March, fans were campaigning to get Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon into the game. Who or what would you like to see added to the game? Let us know in the comment section below.

Kinda forgot about this game never really see anyone talking about it.

Despite the FGC Snobs, there is a community growing for this game and they will keep campaigning for Crash and Spryo.

And since the game doubles as a marketing vehicle, I think Lighting will be made available when Lighting Returns comes out. Probably the same deal with other upcoming games.

My friend just got this game, and we played it a decent amount over the weekend. They don't play as much video games as I do, and pretty much everyone was in agreement that the game is bad. I don't know what it is, but it's just plain boring.

DarkFlare07 said on April 9, 2013 at 4:39 p.m.

havent touched this game since the update, it ruined the fun for me. i made alot of friends through this game and now hardly any of them play it. i miss the pre-patch version...

maybe if they add cloud or lightning ill give this a go again just for them.

Terios said on April 9, 2013 at 4:44 p.m.

This game used to be fun but I feel it's gotten progressively worse with each update.

Guybrush20X6 said on April 9, 2013 at 4:44 p.m.

Well the money I spent on the Isaac Clarke DLC is the last I'll spend on any EA associated thing until they shape up. Gotta say it was money well spent, he's a blast to play as.

old_school_rival said on April 9, 2013 at 4:48 p.m.

That's good news for people who like this game; it needs more weapons and characters.

Kalio said on April 9, 2013 at 4:58 p.m.

This game makes time fly by so quickly. I just want SSM to nerf touch of death combos and this game will be golden.

TrueGamingGuru said on April 9, 2013 at 5:06 p.m.

As long as Playstation Allstars still gets supported, its all good.

Speaking of Crash I recently heard of a new possible Crash game for Playstation sytems, Xbox 360, & Wii U.

@7 Heck that's good for a community that supports Playstation Allstars, heck it might get plenty of support like SSB.

Final Fantasy related @7 & 12: Both Cloud & Lighting is very plausible because Square Enix is a company that is notorious to work with, and they haven't push out their Final Fantasy characters that much. But chances for Final Fantasy characters is possible, but Square Enix is the only group that has the final say.

No_Surrender said on April 9, 2013 at 5:43 p.m.

This game has flaws, but I enjoy it nonetheless. It has the potential to be something great if they decide to make a sequel and take their time ironing things out. And it is a nice change of pace when I through grinding it out with SF or KOF.

TrueGamingGuru said on April 9, 2013 at 5:46 p.m.

@18 Even if you want those 4 characters, however some of your wish list may have little to no chance at all because other certain third party companies are ones that may make you wish not come true.

Starting off with Crash & Spyro are owned by Activision, that company are the reasons why we never see Crash & Spyro. Activision are not being reasonable and are asking for some crazy demand. However there is a very slim chance, and who knows what Activision will say in the end.

Lara Croft was mostly hold back by Crystal Dynamics, but the team is interest of putting Lara in the game. However she wasn't going to be included because Crystal Dynamics don't want to spoil any surprise that is related with the recent Tomb Raider game. But now Tomb Raider is released, Crystal Dynamics even asked fans of what DLC should they be working on so "Lara on PS Allstars" happens to be those requests.

Wander has no chance at all, because the ICO team wants nothing to do with PS Allstars. The ICO team considers their characters a piece of art, and doesn't like the idea that these characters should relate with Allstars.

Played it for one hour and got bored of it. Fun party game don't get me wrong, but not nearly enough depth to interest most competitive players. Im a huge Sony and Smash bros fan so I thought I would instantly love this game...turns out I was wrong -_-

Kaios said on April 9, 2013 at 8:01 p.m.

I would like to see any of the following :

- Medusa from God of War. I already created a moveset for her.
- Traveler from Journey.
- Wander from Shadow of The Colossus
- Ultimecia, Yuna, or Lightning from Final Fantasy.
- Pyramid Head from Silent Hill.
- Ancient Ogre from Tekken.

tktktk43 said on April 9, 2013 at 9:19 p.m.

The game itself is ok. I just don't like the new changes to the system; the game feels much slower now. Nonetheless I would like to see more characters. Haven't played this game in a while.

GodPride said on April 9, 2013 at 9:30 p.m.

Ratchet is enough for me to keep playing the game. They just need to remove his grab loop and make his traps more durable and he'd be good to go.

@1 I completely ragged on this game when it first came out. I didn't like how the art assets didn't blend with one another and still don't nor was I fond of Supers being an endgame but when I was reluctant to buy the game for my kid brother, I found myself enjoying the game. It became something of a guilty pleasure for me too, so I'm glad they're still working on the game. It needs patching.

Angryjoshua said on April 9, 2013 at 10:01 p.m.

OK...The only reason people find this game boring is because nobody spent more than a day learning how to play...ALSO nobody ever does tutorial mode (not even people who play it). It literally teaches you everything you need to know, and more....Thus all the scrub players online.

The game is extremely Fast paced (at a high level).

All that aside. this is pretty good news. I'll guess and say that the next 4 characters would be; Lightning and Vergil (DMC Vorgal)...Crash and Spyro.

DK_ALEX_DK said on April 9, 2013 at 10:33 p.m.

It would be great to see Crash Bandicoot back, that guy was the one who gave me interest for Playstation.

I got myself a wishlist aswell, these Characters are:
Crash Bandicoot
Sora from Kingdom Hearts (Since Kingdom Hearts ReMix is comming)
Lara Croft
Leon from Final Fantasy (Ya heard me)
and Rayman.

Bluefang14 said on April 9, 2013 at 11:42 p.m.

@22: Yes, Team ICO values the artistic integrity of their games so staunchly that Little Big Planet has ICO/SotC skins up and available.

Though I've pretty much given up on Wander appearing anyway. I still have a moveset lying around somewhere for him...

WBK_ZER0 said on April 9, 2013 at 11:50 p.m.

i can kinda see how crash might play in this game
since all we have to go on from previous crash games he'll have a mashable spin move, a body slam, a slide, the aku aku mask, wampa launcher, wampa fruit (referencing crash 2's n.gin boss), tnts, mystery boxes, exclamation boxes, nitro crates and nitro clear box, and anything that was in the bash game. i probably dug too deep into it but crash could be more of a mid range/close range character kinda like jak or rachet. i could be wrong but hey that's what i see in terms of how the character will play like.

TrueGamingGuru said on April 10, 2013 at 7:45 a.m.

@30 I just recently heard that his new game might be coming up, well for Crash wise all it takes is Activision to let the bandicoot return.

Here is the response for each of your wishlist.

Crash we already know that Activision has been holding the Bandicoot back for certain reasons they got.

Sora has a least 0% chance not only Square Enix is a problem, but Disney is another issue. Disney is very protective with Sora (even if Square Enix owns him) and doesn't want Sora to be exposed by an violence of an source, plus PS Allstars have characters that came from M-rated brand which Disney has a problem and even certain items worries Disney. Chances are very slim.

Lara might be possible since Tomb Raider (2013) has recently been released, even the Crystal Dynamics team asked fans of what they should work on next. "Lara for PS Allstars" happens to be the request that fans wanted.

For Leon he is actually not on the list. The only Final Fantasy character is at mind is Cloud since he is related with the 17th anniversary of FFVII and Lighting because Square would consider to push her appearance to relate with her new game coming out.

Rayman is plausible, mostly because he was becoming more relating with Nintendo. But the good news is Ubisoft is another company that has a good relationship with Sony. (2K games & EA are other companies that have a good relationship with Sony)

TrueGamingGuru said on April 10, 2013 at 7:53 a.m.

@31 I see. Well the ICO team is not the only issue when comes to certain characters, but other third party companies have already proved enough challenge to even let the character appear in PS Allstars including the ones relating with PS1 history.

When comes to characters for PS Allstars, it's always happens out of possibility and ones we don't even expect to see when comes to third party characters. With Sony on the other hand they can get their characters out a lot easier (depending on certain character).

mrambitious said on April 10, 2013 at 8:28 a.m.

@ one hour and hated the game guys

Play more of it. if your saying 1 hour is all you need to master a fighting game and all its mechanics you, sirs, are huge liars.

@ Character requests

From the last DLC (Zeus / Isaac) it is clear they could care less about who we are asking for and are just gonna put in who they can get easiest.

JiCi said on April 10, 2013 at 9:10 a.m.

IMO, Zeus and Isaac should have been free for the first 2 weeks, like Kat and Emmett were.

Also, Sony seems to go with marketing upcoming games than going with fan favorites: Zeus, because of GoW Ascension and Isaac, because of Dead Space 3. Fans are still waiting for Sony characters from other series, especially retro ones and RPGs. Sure, they might not get Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon anytime soon (dammit Activision), but Sony has a bunch of series that could be added in the meantime.

Where are Wild Arms, Legend of Legaia, Legend of Dragoon, Dark Cloud and Arc the Lad? Where are Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Sorcery, Folklore, White Knight Chronicles and Rogue Galaxy? Where are Resistance, Ghost Hunter, Primal, Lair and Drakan? Where are Mark of Kri, The Last of Us, Puppeteer, Blasto, War of the Monsters and Mister Mosquito? Then again, they could say "screw 'Playstation' in the title" and add characters from Everquest and Vangard: Saga of Heroes, both which are Sony MMOs for PC.

So yeah, if they want to save this game:
1) Offer characters free for 2 weeks
2) Go with 1st-party characters

Angryjoshua said on April 10, 2013 at 9:29 a.m.

When's DC?

TrueGamingGuru said on April 10, 2013 at 10:08 a.m.

@36 You know nothing is always meant to have a special offer that certain DLC characters are free for the first 2 weeks, in reality DLC is ALWAYS MEANT TO BE PAID INCLUDING CHARACTERS.

Sony even tried to get characters that fans wanted, but some of certain fan requests came from third party companies from Crash & Spyro (Activision), Cloud (Square Enix), Lara & Gex (Crystal Dynamics) etc. sometimes even third party companies have other ideas than listen to fans and include those characters in these certain games.

The reason Isaac is in Playstation All-Stars is that Sony has good relationship with EA games, plus Zeus was actually one of the ideas for the final boss characters along other certain characters but was scrapped as a boss in favor to include Polygon Man as the final boss.

For your big list of Playstation only title list if these certain games are owned by Playstation exclusive that can be easily be included as a DLC character like Dart from Legend of Dragoon, Resistance are owned by Insomniac games etc. but keep in mind even if these certain groups are owned by Sony, getting characters from certain teams/IP holders is easy said than done. Like Ico & Shadow of the Colossus are owned by the ICO team and that team wants nothing to do with PS Allstars. Plus The Last of Us is currently not released, the question is if Naughty Dog is really ok to include a certain game that is new and is not released yet sometimes they don't want to include the character because it might spoil their game. (Heck if PS Allstars get a sequel and The Last of Us is released that is something would happen from the beginning)

Sony will still include characters from their 1st party brand, it'll just take awhile. Offer characters free for 2 weeks is not always going to happen, like I said DLC characters are meant to be paid. That is the Sony way (including Microsoft) when comes to DLC and their online store.

ZeDudd said on April 10, 2013 at 11:09 a.m.

Bought it, played it a week (tried to get into it), got dissapointed, traded it back.
The only good thing about this game is having characters from different franchises, some i haven't seen for decades. (...but many games these days are cross-over themed like this)

...and that's it.

Pale & sterile designs, no balance (don't even try to argue on this one), gameplay gets boring quickly, fights aren't interesting to watch, and the overall game didn't leave much of an impression. : (
I was hyped for this game, but it really isn't doing it for me.

GodPride said on April 10, 2013 at 11:43 a.m.

You don't need to master a game to form an opinion on whether you like the game or not.

DK_ALEX_DK said on April 10, 2013 at 11:57 a.m.

Wait, Disney cares that much for Sora!?........So Sad :(

TrueGamingGuru said on April 10, 2013 at 12:23 p.m.

@43 Yep, even Disney wanted to censor part of the past with KHII when the one level was related with Pirates of Caribbean (which most of their cut scenes were censored in the US release).

Since Sora is from a game that is involved with multiple companies from Square Enix and Disney.

This is reality when comes to even create crossover game or include other characters from certain series, its not always about the fan requests. It will always will be decided by fate of certain companies, certain teams/IP holders, and the creators. Those type of group will have different ideas rather than focus on some game name "PS Allstars" even when certain fans want those characters to appear in that game, that's how reality works.

JiCi said on April 10, 2013 at 12:43 p.m.

@40 That may be... but having characters for free for 2 weeks would probably have made people buy the game (at full price to get the online pass too) to order to get these characters. The DLC would have been at a cost after that period, but at least it would have moved a few copies.

As for characters, I honestly don't know their pattern. Evil Cole and Zeus can pass because we already have Cole and Kratos... and SSB did start with 2 Super Mario Bros and 2 Pokémon characters. What fans want are iconic characters to the Playstation consoles, all 5 of them (PSX, PS2, PS3, PSP and PSV, if you were following). Bioshock and Dead Space, I hate to say it, are not iconic, compared to Devil May Cry, Tekken and Metal Gear Solid*. Irrational Games and EA just asked Sony for an inclusion due to their games, compared to possibly Sony asking Capcom, Namco and Konami for a character each. What's an iconic 3rd-party series? A series which most of the games that came out were exclusive to Sony's platforms. Square Enix had a bunch... but I'm afraid I don't know how it went out for that game. Sora from Kingdom Hearts would have work, especially if he can change his stance using Circle, similar to Toro. Hate to break it to you, but Final Fantasy had like 3 games for NES, 3 games for SNES, 3 games for PSX, 3 games for PS2 and 1 game for PS3. It's a bit hazy at this point. That would have been a different story if FF would have started on the PSX instead.

For a real iconic 3rd-party, Sony could have ask Level-5's involvement, due to their developpment for Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy and White Knight Chronicles. THAT would have been more iconic.

I can understand that some teams don't want to be involved. However, it's just stupid. "No, we don't want to please our fans with cameos." Yeah, right (¬_¬);, not to mention that Team ICO is almost believed to be dead at this point. It's not like their reputation is gonna get hurt or anything.

So yeah, the offer should have helped them better and character selection is iffy.

*(BTW, Cyborg Raiden appeared in MGS4, which makes him canon to the series despite what people think about shoving him in due to Revengeance. It was him or Old Snake. Kojima not fond of the idea? He already accepted for SSBB with Snake, pretty sure he said that it would be a good idea for Sony, but didn't want to use the same character)

TrueGamingGuru said on April 10, 2013 at 3:34 p.m.

@45 Even if that free DLC characters for 2 weeks was still there for almost every DLC characters, I don't think it will make people buy the game it would've been the same results. Besides the free DLC characters for 2 weeks was limited time offer for the first 2 DLC characters, the only free DLC characters were close to get (depending on certain offers) as a pre order bonus for a certain game like GOW: Ascension.

When comes to the current characters they mostly have their own reasons why they make their appearance from separate history, comes from certain teams, or if certain third party groups have their own reason why this character is in the game.

Originally Cole was intended to be one character having the two powers form as one, however Sucker Punch felt that it would be better to represent Cole as two separate sides (since Infamous had different paths which gave you different powers separate from each side). Fans will still get first party characters for DLC, there will be a few third party along side. All it takes is more DLC characters.

Speaking of Bioshock & Dead Space, Big Daddy/Little Sister & Isaac Clark also appeared in Sony's commercial Long Live Play (aka Michael). That can be true that those two asked for their characters to appear, but it still stands that Sony has a good relationship with those two companies. For Capcom was considered a notorious company to work with along with Square Enix, Namco was the easiest company to work with heck if Sony/Santa Monica ask for another certain Namco character they wouldn't demand too much. Sora appearance would've been very slim because Disney would have a problem with Sora in PS Allstars. I don't care too much for a certain Final Fantasy character to appear anyway (those are fans asking certain characters). Besides Square Enix is going to be a challenge anyway.

I haven't heard news of recent relating with Level-5 for certain characters, it will really depend on what Level-5 will say in the end. All I can say is that is how media business works when comes to decisions.

Speaking of MGS Raiden actually first appeared in MGS2 before his MGS4 appearance. Speaking of Snake it was mentioned by Eric Ladin (Cole) he was working with Nolan North (Nathan) & David Hayter (Snake), although the relations with Kojima was damaged when Raiden got leaked and it would effect his decision to include certain DLC stuff relating with MGS. Plus Kojima wouldn't like to include Solid or Old Snake because he doesn't like the idea that Snake & Raiden fighting against each other, he doesn't have a problem with Naked Snake/Big Boss. (although Kojima's relation is still bad, on top of that Konami wants to use Naked Snake for MGS Ground Zero). Actually Metal Gear series stared as MSX2 computer before MGS for PS1.

Johasthan said on April 10, 2013 at 4:24 p.m.

I really like this game, so great news. What this game game need is to be balanced, having more characters and a bit of love. Free DLC characters during a period of time (like Kat and Emmet) it's a good thing.

About the characters, they have a lot of options. There is no need to be as iconic as Mario, really. My ideas/likes

Crash: Obvious
Spyro: Almost as obvious as Crash
Abe (Abe's Oddysee): Abe's owners want him in game and it's a cool character. It's a win-win situation.
Jarvis, the dude from Pain: I feel a character from Pain can fit so well in this game.
Echochrome doll: Can be amazing if they can figure out a cool fighting style for this.
Journey guy/girl/thing: Journey is winning everything this year. They need to figure out a fighting style for him/her/it.
An Assassin: Since Assassins Creed have some exclusive PSP an assassin is justified (more that in SCV). Can be Ezio, but it's a good oportunity to have a generic assassins with alternate costumes for Altair/Ezio/Connor/Whatever (easy DLC money if you ask me)
Group of PataPon: Some PataPon as a singe character.

And now, the crazy ones:

Chell+PotatOS: With all the hype when they announce Steam comming to PS3... Chell fighting, PotatOS speaking... cool :D
Scott Shelby from Heavy Rain: I'm not going to spoil that great game here but yeah, a little too dark for a character, right? Risky move XD

I can imagine a different and cool playstyle and supers for each one of these :D

DK_ALEX_DK said on April 11, 2013 at 8:41 a.m.

As much as i hate Disney( Due to most of their films having songs), Square Enix sure lose a lot of good fanchises :(
i mean like: the Ogre Battle Series (Which Quest made, a side company of Square Enix) ended cuz Quest moved over to Square Enix without the Ogre Battle Series, because of the Final Fantasy 13 development. (I loved the Ogre Battle Series) And now Kingdom Hearts will be taken by Disney, or perhaps worse, they'll take Square Enix as they did with Marvel and the Starwars Legend :(

PreyDragon said on April 12, 2013 at 6:12 p.m.

I think for a new stage i would love them to add a Fat Princess level with all the workers, mages, ningas, pirates and warriors running around in the background. hazards could include the mages firing fire onto the battle field.

As for new characters that i would like to see:

1. Cloud - Square Enix have a good relationship with sony.
2. Rayman - The joys of growing up playing this great game. Ubisoft make it happen.
3. Tomba - Another awesome game
4. OVERLORD - Really hope Codemasters and sony get together for this character.
