Exceptional artwork from the UFS Street Fighter card game

Jasco Games had some rather brilliant artwork created for their Street Fighter cards for the UFS (Universal Fighting System). Compiled by Udon, there's a ton of really great renditions here for the Capcom fighting game characters you know and love.

Here's a sampling of the work that was done, hit the jump for lots more.

I played this game. Other than the artwork and the fact that you could have Street Fighter battle against Soul Calibur, it sucked. The game was overly complex and didn't represent the characters in the game at all (For example, in UFS cards, Lizardman was about reversals where in the real games he was terrible at them).

If anyone is looking for a card game the really represents fighting game mechanics accurately, check out Yomi. It was made by David Sirlin (Love him or hate him, he does understand fighting games). I think the art in it is also done by Udon.

(Yomi is the Japanese term for reading the mind of your opponent.)

Just a followup because I feel bad about bashing the game. It's recently revived after being discontinued, so I know how hard it is to bring in new fans. I don't want to ruin what could be good for getting some new people try it out.

It just sucked at representing fighting games. If you ignore the fact that the Street Fighter characters play nothing like they would, then it's not a bad game. Too much card tapping for me though.

Also I played as Twelve and he actually had his own starter deck. Any company that would choose a character as obscure and hated as Twelve to be a head-liner for the game gets points in my book.

First of, Jasco Games didn't have anything with the game to do when any of this art was created. Them picking the game up again is great though!

Secondly: the game is great! It really stands out from other card games (MtG, WoWTCG, Spoils, VTES) due to its kind of unique way of playing. I really recommend it! The way that you can play very powerful cards in the beginning of the match at the cost of not playing many foundations - thus kind of messing up your late game, is great! The tempo of different decks vary a lot more than in games where you simply get 1 resource per turn.

First pic is the only good one.

And since when is Jon Talbain part of Street Fighter?

EDIT: Wtf Donovan too.

Have to see if Jasco Games can make a better job of it that the games creators Sabertooth, UFS ended up being a busted degenerate mess.

I really wish Capcom would renew a license. Not a big fan of their own properties (Red Horizon/etc.) and there will be another set from SNK for KOFXIII.
Game is different. Games can actually go pretty fast. Of course like any other CCG gotta have good cards =/ been looking forever to find some Genjuro promos and float like a butterfly.

Artqork is awesome here, but be forewarned, there are some ugly cards.

I just wanted to come to the defense of this game. Since UFS keeps getting bought out by different companies (FF, Jasco) I've been able to recently get a massive amount of cards for cheap. Yes, it is super complicated because there are so many mechanics. But I have to disagree about it not representing fighting games.

Of the King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, and Street Fighter characters I have, most of them are represented pretty accurately actually. While I've noticed a few with some random abilities, they are few and far between and are only done to fully make use of the wide range of play styles and game mechanics.

It's worth grabbing a couple of decks for $5 or $6 online and giving it a show if you're into CCGs of any kind.

The "Son, I am disappoint!" slap Alex is giving to Sean and the picture of Cammy backhanding Sakura make me want to get into this just for those cards.

You're encouraged to combo OUT of super moves, even ones that, in the games that they came from, force the combo to end. Even throws for characters that can't combo out of throws you are expected to combo out of.
Your resource collection has nothing to do with combat. Which makes absolutely no sense in something centered around fighting games. And just why in the heck should you be allowed to bust out two Cost 12 moves (pretty much the equivalent of Ultra or NEOMAX moves) in consecutive turns, or the same turn, without even having to rebuild your resources?

Just how is that true to fighting games? You want a better licensed fighting TCG? (Still not GREAT, but a heck of a lot better.) Try Epic Battles. (Well, except that the game is outright dead.) At the very least, resource collection is dependent on attacking and defending.
