Updated: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 patched to version 1.01

Updated: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 patched to version 1.01 Updated: Seth Killian wrote in what the 1.01 patch for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 fixed.
There are a few backend bug fixes, but it basically just preps for "Shadow Mode" content — no gameplay adjustments.

8ighty 6ix noticed when he booted up Marvel vs. Capcom 3 recently it prompted him to download a 23 megabyte patch that brought the game up to version 1.01.

He mentioned he's now seeing a "Checking Downloadable Content" message after starting, so it sounds like this has also paved the way for DLC content to be opened up. It was announced previously that new costumes would be released on March 1, 2011, which is less than a week away.

Also, Capcom had stated they were aware of the connection issues the game was having, and were looking into a fix, but it wasn't said if this was changed.

I wonder if it is a balance update patch or a patch to fix online issues.

DontHateOnMe said on February 24, 2011 at 5:06 p.m.

GREAT!!.. can you imagine that the patch is for toning down x factor....
wishful thinking =)

Squeaky scrubs get the grease.

I was totally fine with this game as is.

YoshinatorZ said on February 24, 2011 at 5:10 p.m.

if it fixes online and fixes Sentinel a bit, the game needs no other updates.

8ighty6ix said on February 24, 2011 at 5:11 p.m.

I get a "Checking for Downloadable Content" message now when I get to the Main Menu so I'm assuming the patch prepares the game to search for DLC in the Game Data folder.

Could do more though :)

mcfizzle said on February 24, 2011 at 5:11 p.m.

^ maybe you should actually find out what the patch changes before bitching

Utils said on February 24, 2011 at 5:12 p.m.

You know what: screw that. I highly doubt they released a BALANCE patch after only two weeks in the field. There's no way this is a balance patch.

Before EVO? Nope.avi.

Just no fcuking way it's a balance patch. That would be stupid. They probably added security for people pirating the game or fixed some features or options or something.

DarkCyclone said on February 24, 2011 at 5:14 p.m.

I was hoping they added spectator mode. Too much to wish for now I guess :(

Catalyst said on February 24, 2011 at 5:15 p.m.

Balance changes at this stage of the game being out are highly unlikely.

hellmetal789 said on February 24, 2011 at 5:16 p.m.

i hope its a network patch i keep getting failed to connect on a wired connection lol.

SmokeRulz said on February 24, 2011 at 5:21 p.m.

It's probably a network patch and perhaps covers a few of those weird glitches that got recorded a while back. Anyone who thinks it's character balance is fooling themselves.

Utils said on February 24, 2011 at 5:23 p.m.

I can't people people are still bitching about Sentinel.

Look, from now on all the herbs and scrubs complaining about Sentinel should get their copy of MvC3 confiscated by the Capcops. You people don't deserve the game. How about you spend a minute or two in training mode?

Any time I get spammed by something online I record it in training mode and practice with my time several ways around it.

Seriously, I've never seen so many cry babies. CRY BABIES, ALL OF YOU.

I'm not saying the game is perfect, BUT YOU PEOPLE DON'T EVEN GIVE THE GAME A CHANCE.

This game JUST CAME OUT. So of you sound so ungrateful, especially about the character count. There's so much to play with in this game. The roster is GREAT! Really, play around with it. Go into arcade mode and beat the game with everyone, just try them out. They really did deliver on that promise of unique characters. Yes, even Ryu & Akuma.

I dunno, I get defensive because this game is fun as hell. And when I see complaints about LITTLE THINGS it just bothers me. Especially SO SOON after the game came out.

If you're not having fun something is very wrong with you. MvC3 is a blast and yeah, some aspects (NON GAMEPLAY RELATED stuff like features and interface) seem rushed and last minute but I'm telling you they put a lot of love into this game. Just give it a chance.

I mean really, after all the tutorial videos there should be nobody on evenhubs still crying over sentinel of all things.

MonkeyCha0s said on February 24, 2011 at 5:23 p.m.

lol utils doesnt want his little senty to get nerfed. im sure you'll love it if they take hyper armor off of hulk and sentinel. hulk doesnt need the nerf but just cause capcom loves utils they can make it happen

Kuni said on February 24, 2011 at 5:23 p.m.

I <3 utils i love the game alot as well try playing x 23, morrigan and phoenix online and try getting a high win streak oh wait you probably cant because you are so used to running away with your characters or just flat out spamming with sent or ryu

Jerecaine said on February 24, 2011 at 5:29 p.m.

I dont really care for sentinel...I just want spectator mode

Utils said on February 24, 2011 at 5:43 p.m.

Yes, I play Sentinel. My team is Ammy/Hulk/Sentinel in that order.

I'm not even going to bother defending the strawman assumptions about the way I play just because I have Sentinel on my team. What would be the point? People with no skills assume because you have him on your team it means one thing or another.

That's fine.

I've seen a lot of beam spam with other characters. I've seen a LOT of troll teams online. Guess what? I don't cry about it like you guys. I go to training mode and I FIGURE IT OUT.

What the hell, you want Capcom to PLAY THE GAME FOR YOU? Because that's what you do when you ask for random nerfs. Especially two weeks into the game's release. Talk about pathetic.

Seriously, boot up training mode and get to work. Does the License card thing track how much time you put into training mode? If it does, start looking at it. I bet the people who complain the most have never even used it.

zUkUu said on February 24, 2011 at 5:48 p.m.

@22 that was the point ;) fead the comment twice and note the smiley^^

Utils said on February 24, 2011 at 5:49 p.m.

And if you're not one of the people complaining then obviously what I say doesn't apply to you. In fact you're probably really awesome and having fun and play to win. We're cool.

thats actually a great idea because the license card shows your time in offline mode and online mode but the only thing is we cant tell the difference between mission mode arcade mode and maybe (if it counts) the gallery listening to some of Arthurs epic win quotes...

p.s. arthturs in my team and boy is he a bitch! i think worse then sentinel! by that i mean cheaper of course.

The patch speeds up loading time. The black silouhouttes on the character select light up MUCH faster and so do the fights. As far as connecting to people I still occasionally get the "Failed to connect to room" notification but overall the game runs smoother.

Sentinel is fine.

Every game with a competitive element these days has a fighter, unit (RTS) or class (RPG) that is the hardest for noobs to beat, but once you figure out how to kill it, you'll pull it off every time like clockwork.

shakumafu said on February 24, 2011 at 6:31 p.m.

I don't think people are complaining about sentinel's zoning ability. I think sentinel is too good because of his godlike crouching medium, and very easy, very high damage bread and butter (crouching medium, special, air heavy, special, L rocket punch, hyper, for 600k). Then he also has the most health in the game.

I'm not claiming to be good at this game, but sentinel just seems to be like a really easy character to play with little execution ability

Cammystrike said on February 24, 2011 at 6:32 p.m.

Today i play with so much sentinels, that character are only "cheap damage", he have NOT any dangerous, it is booring, and only a shadow of what used to be, to beat him only you need to block-push block- and try to no desesperate, never try to deal damage at the same time because the armor, that's all. I think that sentinel now is so powerfull, but in a two months he'll be mid low at best.

YoshinatorZ said on February 24, 2011 at 9:10 p.m.

Online play was ruined once everyone unlocked Sentinel. And yes, I have trained against him, put Sentinel on very hard, gave him infinite health and my team infinite health and practiced on that for hours. I still hate him, can do half of Tron Bonne's health with one got damn combo. Computer doesn't spam enough so I can't get full practice.

And Utils, your argument is invalid if you use Sentinel. Man, I hate the people who do that. "Sentinels not that bad! what? Yeah, I use Sentinel what of it?" It's amazing how one character can really ruin this game for me.

tktktk43 said on February 24, 2011 at 9:38 p.m.

Look, people are not complaining about spammers. They are complaining about Sentinel overall. Highest health in the game. Invincible startup frames. Great normals. Great launcher. All his hypers deals great damage and are actually useful. Good assist. Capcom just needs to make sentinel a bit slower or decrease his health. IMO the slower the character the more damage and health he should have. Sentinel's moves comes out pretty fast so he doesn't deserve that much health. I'd say Thor can use a health boost. He is so damn slow.

mndy said on February 24, 2011 at 9:38 p.m.

Both camps have a point, but I'm pretty sick of seeing both sides of this argument.

Sentinel is a part of the game and is beatable, and as the game ages people will learn the matchup and he won't be as bad as he seems now. It'll be like SF4 Sagat: tons of people played him, but very few Sagats won tournaments. Everyone knew his game and it also gave people a villain to cheer against. You're starting to see this even now, with people LOVING to see Sentinel go down. That adds some excitement to the game. And in a game like this where 500k damage with 1 super is on the low end of average damage, everyone is viable and can kill Sentinel. So he really is not as bad as he could be and not invincible.

But on the other hand, people who use Sentinel and even have names like 50Sent coming in and talking about how anyone who thinks Sentinel is a little too strong is just whining are kidding themselves. Sentinel is, without a doubt, easier to use than a lot of other characters in the game and able to put out a wicked amount of damage with little effort, and fight effectively from any range. He's not invincible or OP but he is definitely at an advantage and numerous pros have said the same thing. Justin Wong specifically said Sentinel requires very little effort to wreck people with and he had to put in time to work out specific anti-Sentinel strats, which is a good example to follow, but clearly shows that Sentinel is a stronger than average character.

So you're both right, but blinded by your generalizations. Not EVERY single person who hates Sentinel is a scrub. Msybe they are just sick of him being on every third team. Maybe they just think he might be slightly overpowered and want to discuss this, because they have good intentions. You cannot shut these people out by yelling "scrub" in their face because it solves nothing and just makes you both look stupid. And on the other side, you can't say everyone who defends Sentinel is a Sentinel user tierwhoring it up. Maybe they really think this game is balanced, and it is, being arguably the most balanced Vs. game yet where every single team is viable. Maybe they think Sentinel is a hype character, which he is.

Either way Marvel news always turns into 50 comments of arguing about Sentinel and it's pretty old. The game hasn't even been out two weeks.

mndy said on February 24, 2011 at 9:44 p.m.

And Akuma, I see him everywhere.

Dark_Fantom said on February 24, 2011 at 9:45 p.m.

Lmao @ Utilz

Complains that other people complain about sent but USES the mother-fcuker. Are you serious???? Sent isn't broken, but he's OP. You just don't want him nerfed 'cause you use him dumba$$.

xxxplizit said on February 24, 2011 at 9:49 p.m.

Or simply use Akuma infinite:

Or watch this video:

Real talk: SENTINEL SHOULDN'T EVEN BE IN THE GAME!! I saw this happening from the start as Sentinel was only in the game because of his god-tier stat in MvC2 and Japan loves robots too much; it ignored the popularity of Marvel and Capcom in an international standpoint.

There isn't much we can do but abuse the hell out of Sentinel; yes being cheap as hell. OR force ourselves to learn how to beat it to a point where Sentinel no longer becomes overused or god-tier anymore, even if we feel discomfort over it. Otherwise, the only winning move is to go back to playing other games that are more fun to us like SSF4AE etc. which will make us happier and make Capcom sadder.

But really, they need to add spectator mode soon.

Ice9 said on February 24, 2011 at 10:36 p.m.

Somebody should check to see how this effects the On-Disk DLC content both before and after the patch to see if it corrected anything with Jill.

No, seriously.

canabalistic999 said on February 24, 2011 at 10:37 p.m.

People who are mad about sentinel i understand where you are coming from but first things first its MVC there are always imbalances, its a part of the game lol but on a more serious note there are a few videos on youtube covering techniques with most of the cast on how to get around sentinel spam with beams/ rockets. Most of it applies even when the spam is paired with assists and some doesnt work so well but it helps plenty. Another pointer play a character with a teleport at least one on your team helps a lot with more than just the sentinel matchup. Also use as many air dashes after a super jump that you can to close the distance and preferably use air moves before falling.

Teams(in order of point, partner 1, partner 2):
Main= Hulk/Dante/Chun Li
Sub= Spencer/X-23/Wesker
Dream team(once dlc is out)= Jill/Chris/Wesker

And both teams i can use right now handle sentinel just fine, or at least decently well lol

MonkeyCha0s said on February 24, 2011 at 11:48 p.m.

lmao @Loghorn
but as someone else has already said the problem people have with sentinel isnt really the spam its the low risk high reward thing about him. heavy damage without even trying.so correct me if im wrong but you cant really train against that. you can learn how to block but that doesnt solve all your problems cause your still playing under fear.

basically what im trying to tell you sentinel players is TO STOP SPAMMING HIM TO WIN YOU DAMN CHEATERS!

ImmortalBison said on February 24, 2011 at 11:50 p.m.

Cheaters? That's a bit much. How can it be cheating if its in the game? Maybe if Sentinel players hacked the game to make him better they'd be cheaters. Besides 50Sent said he doesn't use Sentinel...

and3 said on February 25, 2011 at 12:04 a.m.

Sentinel really is like vanilla Sagat. On top of his AMAZING zoning ability he has high damage output and very high health just like Sagat did. Ofcourse you make some tactics that could get you in really fast but like with vanilla Sagat this is very risky for a lot of characters and once you get in it wont even kill him cuz he has too much health. To balance him out they should lower his damage and his health like with Sagat, cuz the problem isnt that he spams like hell, but the fact that getting close isnt enough of a reward becuz of his health and on top of that its risky cuz he deals even more damage up close.

But in the end I have to agree with canabalistic999. This is MvC, the game that laughs in the face of balance. Even if they'd try to balance it Sent would still come out really strong cuz of his mechanics. To make a completely balanced game all chars should be blobs with the same attacks and damage output. But there would still be people saying: Man that bright yellow blob is hurting my eyes, he's so OP.:P

Oh, Utils clearly doesnt know what he's talkin about cuz Sent is OP and he's clearly in denial. I dont really mind playing against Sentinel but that's becuz I have Amaterasu and Viper in my team and they both shut down his zoning, but just imagine playing haggar, she hulk or any other heavy weight. Suddenly it becomes almost impossible to beat him. You cant adjust your team if you dont know whats coming and the fact that you're adjusting your team becuz of 1 char already proves that he's OP.

lol ok people b*tching about sentinel again.

1st of all I will say I dont use sentinel so that everyone knows and dont start adding stupid comments like "oh this guys uses sentinel so he doesn'T get it".

I dont get why people complain about him. I agree he has some amazing tools but he has 2 PROBLEMS in this game:

1- He has the biggest hitbox in the game. Mark my words that people will begin to start finding infinites probably next month and it will only works on HIM.

2- I see a lot of people trying to air dash with him, resulting on people having free hyper combos on him.

These 2 combined can make sentinel rather fragile but he has the HP to resist some combos.

Dunno why but I have the feeling that most of the people complain about sentinel are those people that never actually played mvc2. (I'm not talking about casuals or playing for fun here) Sentinel hasn't changed so why the fuss ? People still found a way to beat him back then. You guys are so lazy you cant figure it out yourselves ? It's like thinking having sentinel in your team = 100% win rate. FFS it's exactly like in ssf4 -> Find a way to beat your opponent! READ HIS GAME! Dont just throw buttons out there for no reason!!! (You know what I mean even if it's a MvC game...)

The only thing I could complain about sentinel it's his Hard Drive Hyper that completely invincible and requires ONLY 1 Meter. Some invincibility frame needs to be remove or adjust the hittable box around Sentinel. Other than that he's fine. People that complain like he's broken needs either to deal with it or go back to play vs honda in ssf4

tmfan said on February 25, 2011 at 2:23 a.m.

I can think of a couple small ways to make the fight against Sentinel better without hurting the character too much.

1. Take away chip damage from laser normals.
2. No super armor on low Medium.

I'd be happy with that. I'm a She-Hulk player and that match up stupidly frustrating. Laser spam + Anti air assists almost completely shut the big lady down. By the time I get in, I lost a third of my life due to laser chip.

i don't understand the way of thinking by capcom...if they wanted the casuals to buy the game they would have made someone like dante OP and not that slow robot...
oh and nobody dare to argue he's a big killinmg mashine he has to be strong...so yeah uhm we got like some gods and demons in the game but screw them
PLUS it's BS that you're forced to either train very hard to somehow end up winning that matchup (and even then 1 little mistake costs you a character or even the match)or you have to play sentinel yourself.

Like, right now I'm thinking my B team will be built around Haggar because playing with him is SO much fun. Probably him and She-Hulk just get all the grapplers together. Still mulling it over.

You people complaining about Sentinel on my team are the same crybaby scrubs who complain about getting thrown back in the SFII days. You're the kinda scrubs that beg for free rounds too, aren't you?

Just return your copy now and go play Tekken or something. Away with you!

You paid for the damn game. You paid for all those characters: USE THEM. Limiting yourself because of some weird social stigma or taboo? Are you stupid? What happens when someone else is declared OP? Not gonna use them either?

You're not impressing anybody by avoiding characters. You're just limiting yourself and cheating yourself out of a fun game in the process.

On that note, I don't actually see that many Sentinels online. I see more Akumas and Taskmasters in my region. :p

I know you're not adressing me personally but I just want to say that it isnt wrong to play Sentinel like it wasnt wrong to play Sagat in sf4.
He's a character with a solid system like a lot of others in the game and its not your fault that Capcom screwed up the health-damage-risk ratio. I do want to say that you have to realise that you may have had an advantage by playing him in a lot of match-ups becuz of that screwed up health-damage-risk ratio. This always adds a bit of sting to the losers loss and you should expect people to hate Sentinel for excactly that reason. So you should just roll with the punches and keep playing. If he gets nerfed in damage and health and you keep playing with Sentinel then you're a true Sentinel player. If you wine about his nerfes and stop playing then you're a tier whore. Its up to you.

The reason I don't use Sentinel is that I just don't like the "character". Its a mindless mutant hunting robot whose inclusion makes NO sense in this game. And one question... What Sentinel design is the COTA one even based on?

That being said he IS in the game. Which gives anyone who purchased the game the right to use him (her/it). Besides they'll probably nerf him somewhat later.

My way with dealing with Sentinel is with my A team (Doom, Magneto & Dormammu). Figure by out-cheaping the tin can, I can get the upper hand. Its been working for me so far. Also, anyone who says Sent isn't cheap/OP/broken, yet main him are not excactly being trully honest. Its powerful, it has high damage output requiring little skill. Face it, its that good of a character. Still, it can be beaten, so its time to formulate your own ways to take it out. On a side note, bet it be funny if Sent took a few nefs. Those that stick with it, those are the pros. Those that drop Sent, those are the losers.

Was it a 23 MB patch on PS3 or something? I'm using 360 and my patch was only like 880 KB.

Lavama said on February 25, 2011 at 2:27 p.m.

Pssssssssst, all the people who think Sentinel is over powered and broken, I've got a tip for you...

It's on the back of your system in the form of a cable, and when you pull one of them, three things could happen.

1.) You could fight blindly.
2.) You lose power.
3.) You lose Internet.

(And I'd be the one who plays Sent after them nerfs, because I loved playing him in Children of the Atom. And just to get people to rage ^__^)

DestinyZX1 said on February 25, 2011 at 2:47 p.m.

to Lavama: I don't ragequit. If I lose to Sentinel, I take my loss with pride. Of course, I'll just practice and find a way to counter Sentinel.

Creeper said on February 25, 2011 at 2:51 p.m.

"Also, those of you going out of your way to not use Sentinel are dumber than people that picked Sentinel just to spam online.
You're not impressing anybody by avoiding characters. You're just limiting yourself and cheating yourself out of a fun game in the process."

I agree, there's only two factors that are important in a match: whether you won or lost, and whether you drew anything from the experience. Using "low tier" characters doesn't make your victories any more valid, nor your opponents' any less. It's not "honorable," and there's no "cheap" unless you're going outside the confines of what the developers intended which will be patched. Pick who you want, play to learn, and play to win.

HighOnPCP said on February 25, 2011 at 3:09 p.m.

what is up with this f*cked up mentality?
in tournaments where money is on the line i totally get the "play to win by any means" thing....but online i mean, what about FUN? seriously...sentinel is on my 3rd backup team along dante and skrull (main team is wesker instead sent) and when i use this team i never lost...like never, i just beat some 200+ wins under 30 looses guys by just using sentinel...i mean god damn his BnB which is the easiest in the game cr. medium, launch, medium, heavy, S, then that rocket punch move and hyper...does almost 600.000...with x-factor almost 1.000.000 so most character die of this
i usually don't bi*ch about this stuff...didn't with SF4 sagat didn't with anyone, but this sh*t is just ridiculous and i HOPE capcom knows it and does something about it
the game is fun...but ONLY losing because of bullsh*t sentinel (you know nobody plays perfect) so one mistake, he launches you and you are DONE
i mean the sh*t got me that far that i use sentinel myself and i feel so bad about it because i don't like him
and don't come up with sh*t like step your game up, like i said, when i use sentinel i (so far) ALWAYS won the match even though i only know his one BnB and spamming lasers

anyways, you ALL know it's true whether you admit it or not

DxEggman said on February 25, 2011 at 3:35 p.m.

I can beat Sent without much difficulty....not like it matters because the other player usually rage quits. Most Sents ive faced are pretty bad players, even compared to me (i suck pretty bad).

xShonuffx said on February 25, 2011 at 3:38 p.m.

@91 It's ok to lose sometimes. Thats how you learn.

I rarley lose to Sentinels even if they kill a couple my characters I usually am prepared to deal with the pressure. Eventually I clutch and win.

Besides, it's not Sentinel that gets on my nerves its' freakin Zero and other mash happy characters. He has too many multi hit links in his attacks so it's difficult to punish him. I mean im know there are good Zero players but he should be a bit easier to punish.

@92 I have faced a lot of Sents and most of them suck hard, they only use him to spam Sentinel force assist.

xxxplizit: "Otherwise, the only winning move is to go back to playing other games that are more fun to us like SSF4AE etc. which will make us happier and make Capcom sadder."

If you already bought MvC3, Capcom already has your money, and would be very happy for you to "go back" to playing SSFIV: AE, where you have to pay to play each time. They don't somehow continuously profit from you putting an MvC3 disc into your console (though at least they might sell you some costumes).

cvs said on February 25, 2011 at 4:10 p.m.

or just play a non capcom fighting game.

Ermapume said on February 25, 2011 at 4:17 p.m.

I work Sentinels like cheep hookers. He's not nearly as bad...not complaining. Good to see Capcom preparing for the upcoming DLC.

mr_e said on February 25, 2011 at 5:10 p.m.

On a diffrent note, has anyone been having problems with the game? (Keeps freezin up. Like Fall Out New Vegas)

ScytheWP said on February 25, 2011 at 6:23 p.m.

With Shadow Mode, do you think we'll finally be given an option to normally fight VS PC, or will we have to go into training room and adjust the settings for the AI to be on "Shadow Mode"

Stupid ass lack of menus...

cvs said on February 25, 2011 at 7:07 p.m.

yeah, stupid ass lack of menus... why play online when you can just fight VS PC...

xxxplizit said on February 25, 2011 at 7:12 p.m.

@irrenmann #96

What if I was referring to people who simply go to other people's houses to play the game and not buy? It would make Capcom sadder if those who haven't bought the game yet feel like the game is below their standards.

Genuserx said on February 25, 2011 at 7:51 p.m.

They should put Gen in this game, and give him the Sentinel killer property. The property basically makes it so that Gens attacks do 19x more damage against Sentinel. Gens hands special reflects all his projectiles, and Gen's super is unblockable against sentinel only.

Bottom line: Gen needs to be in this game, not Sentinel.

cvs said on February 25, 2011 at 9:29 p.m.

People rarely play gen in ssf4,i doubt he would be played at all in a game like mvc3.
