Seth Killian talks Capcom fighters on the PlayStation Blog

Seth Killian talks Capcom fighters on the PlayStation Blog The PlayStation Blog also caught up with Capcom's Seth Killian to talk about their upcoming fighting games. This covers SFxT, UMvC3 and SF3 3s OE. Not a ton of new details here, but there's a few things to chew on.

Here's a grab.

PSB: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 comes this fall. Other than the new characters, what new features will be included?

SK: They’re going back to the drawing board with some of the netcode, and adding a spectator mode — a major request from the North American and Japanese fans. It’s particularly challenging for a hyper-busy game like Marvel vs Capcom 3, but the team did manage to figure it out.

There will also be some additional single-player surprises, some new graphical elements, and of course re-tuning for the existing characters. There are little changes to certain moves, and sometimes all-new moves, animation tweaks… it’s a complete package and coming in at a lower price point. If you missed out on Marvel vs Capcom 3, this is the perfect time to dive in.

Tip from Nyoro.

Unfortunately, it seems journalism is non-existent in gaming. No one asks the tough questions. Whenever you read one of those those interviews, it's always the same old bs questions. How about asking about how Capcom feels for charging people 40 bucks for a game plus minor updates?

People need to stop giving in to Crapcom's bs and pay for those stupid, crappy and retarded updates.

SHOGUN said on August 4, 2011 at 10:49 a.m.

Why don't you ask them? Although I'm sure they've been asked plenty.

I think $40 is fair. The fact that it's released the same year put me off a little, but I'm over it. 3S in three weeks, KoF XIII in Oct and UMvC3 in Nov. Gonna be an awesome fall season!

Virtua_Kazama said on August 4, 2011 at 10:51 a.m.

You know what's really funny? People say that they won't buy another updated Capcom fighting game, yet they ended up buying it. Hypocrisy at its finest...

Dude130 said on August 4, 2011 at 10:51 a.m.

12 new characters
8 new levels
Rebalanced characters
New moves
New modes
Better online
spectator mode

How is that Minor updates?

Are you a troll or something who's just but hurt he bought the first version of the game or something?

THE_GODDAMN_MASTER said on August 4, 2011 at 10:52 a.m.

@4: Yes, because someone's who's upset he spent $60 on what amounts to a beta version of a competitive fighting game is obviously just butthurt.

GamePirate420 said on August 4, 2011 at 10:58 a.m.

Seth Killian: It's a complete package...
IOW he's saying, unlike the Vanilla MvC3.
Atleast they are admitting they sold us AGAIN, full price that should have been delayed.

fawaz said on August 4, 2011 at 11:01 a.m.

I think Capcom should have taken time making THIS game the actual MvC3 instead of releasing a broken and incomplete game in first place. It was profitable for them but quite a loss for the buyers. But anyways, lets see what the future holds.

cadnexus said on August 4, 2011 at 11:03 a.m.

Minor Updates LOL LOL
When New fighting games come out, they always start with only twelve characters, example Blazblue, Tao Feng (no longer exist I know), and . We're getting a lot of content. The point is that Capcom is doing a whole lot of work. It's hard to make a bunch of characters with their own original move sets and such. Mortal Kombat Armageddon had around 60 something characters, but MOST of those characters shared the same moves, and now we have a new Mortal Kombat and look hard far the roster went down, because they decided to not have characters share the same moves. 12 extra characters would equal 60 bucks for one game.

My question is what are the single player surprises? My guess is a survival mode, Event Mode not in the online area, 1v1 or 2v2 modes??? That's all I need for single player.

zero2dash said on August 4, 2011 at 11:04 a.m.

"It's a complete package", just missing quite a few characters that people have been asking for, including Mega Man.

You might not be able to do much on the Marvel side of things because they have the final say ~ so Gambit, Venom etc. were out of your hands. But there's no way you're gonna tell me that Mega Man had less votes than at least half the Capcom characters you put in this game.

I'll wait for the inevitable triple dip that includes another 20 characters.

kingofthesharks said on August 4, 2011 at 11:08 a.m.

they gonna sell another version next year called UMVC3: X-edition and all it will add is further balance changes and Megaman X because people will buy him so badly, and they will charge 15 bucks just like they did AE

alchow said on August 4, 2011 at 11:14 a.m.

I like how people think it's awesome to get better online battle or new modes. First of all, who really gives a damn to those useless modes? Yes, I have been dying to play MvC3 with unlimited supers. That's what I have been waiting for throw another 40 bucks out of the window for. Better online and spectator mode are supposed to be included in the first place. But, let's all give capcom a cookie for doing a crappy job. Let's also throw in a glass a milk too bc Capcom is just so awesome throwing characters like rocket racoon and Iron Fist.

Hey, let's just keep feeding Capcom money. Soon enough we will just get 2 characters with 2 stages for the initial game and we have to pay extra to everything else.

New version of the same car, new version of the same TV, new version of the same Phone. Video Games are no different. That is the norm. GET USE TO IT!!!

alchow said on August 4, 2011 at 11:20 a.m.

How about making sure everything works well before they release it?

Sentinel X factor overpowerness can't be a simple oversight?

How about give fans what they want and not use this game to promote pointless characters like Rocket Racoon?

And, we really need journalists who are willing to ask the good questions, not those retarded bs...oh what will this game have or oh SETH what do you do at Capcom?

alchow said on August 4, 2011 at 11:22 a.m.

It's only Norm when you are willing to pay for it. And I don't remember buying FFXII the update version less than a year after FFXII came out. So, Not everyone is doing it. There.

alchow said on August 4, 2011 at 11:27 a.m.

Yes, I am sure 5 out of a million who bought MvC3 wanted Rocket Roccoon. Bc you know, Rocket Raccoon is such a well known and popular character. Who cares about character like Megaman.

Grim said on August 4, 2011 at 11:36 a.m.

@18 alchow Will you shut up about Rocket Raccoon. He is more challenging to put in fighting game, and he will probably be way more fun to use in MVC3 than mega man would ever be. Who the F*ck is mega man anyway?

kirbykirbykirby said on August 4, 2011 at 11:39 a.m.

i wont buy it at launch ill get it when its cheaper, but i do hope marvel and capcom characters make a lot of cameos in the backgrounds. im not digging any new fighters so ill just keep playing the original or tvc

Zarudin said on August 4, 2011 at 11:40 a.m.

You seem to be confusing your characters Alchow. First of all Capcom doesn't control what Marvel characters gets picked. So don't blame Rocket Raccoon for taking Megaman's spot. So if your're mad about Rocket Raccoon being in the game take it up with Marvel. And you think I ain't mad about Megaman not being in the game? Listen if Capcom didn't included him then there is nothing we can't do. After all they ultimately decide who gets to be picked. Whether or not its been demanded. People will be disappointed in the end after all everyone has different taste.

DrewGrimey said on August 4, 2011 at 11:54 a.m.

Maybe you enjoy buying a $60 game, only to have it become obsolete because the developers decide to release a new, updated $40 version less than a year later. Most people, however, feel that this is a shady, shameless, greedy business practice and aren't happy about it. Yeah, $40 isn't a lot of money. It's the fact that we already bought MvC3 for $60 earlier this year and they're already abandoning that version so that they can sell us a new one. I'm sorry that you're too much of a Capcom fanboy to find fault with this.

darkspirit138 said on August 4, 2011 at 1:19 p.m.

As a member of this site, you are a moron for insulting Capcom, WHO GIVE YOU THESE GAMES, and afterwards accusing them of not giving you 'a full game'. The fact that they are making good-quality games that no doubt you yourself are going to end up buying should be good enough reason for you to buy their goddamn games.
Personally, I'm not buying it because there are so many other great things coming out (like 3SOE and SF x T, and that's just fighting games) but people crying that this game is overpriced needs to look at how long they've played Marvel, how much enjoyment they've gotten out of it, and how they would get enjoyment out of the next installment. You cry foul when UMvC3 comes out, but when BO or BF3 or MK or anything like that comes out, you're all game because the graphics have changed somewhat and there are different guns. Look at what you're doing before you cry out more.

alchow said on August 4, 2011 at 1:24 p.m.

You would be a moron if you do not complain after SF4, SSF4, SF4:AE, MvC3, UMvC3, SF3, SF3SOE. What is so great about a company who basically put in minimum work to make you pay the max? Why do you think Capcom move fighters to 3D? It is to make games at a cheaper cost.

MrFystical said on August 4, 2011 at 1:34 p.m.

I didn't buy SF4 until SSF4 and I didn't buy vanilla MvC3 b/c I was purposefully waiting for the inevitable UMvC3. I definitely understand people's anger over paying for version after version, but you should know it's coming. So you have a choice - get the original version so you enjoy it sooner but pay more to play every iteration, or wait and wait to get the updated version and pay less. Unless everyone stops buying the original versions (and maybe reviewers trash the games for being incomplete), this will go and on.

I stopped getting sports games for similar reasons b/c I didn't like paying a ton year after year to get basically the same game with new rosters (plus, they've sucked a lot of fun out sports games for trying to make them too real). But now I don't get to play them either (and I was good at those, unlike fighting games!)

DrewGrimey said on August 4, 2011 at 1:36 p.m.

I am a huge fan of capcom games and never minded buying sf4 and ssf4 because they felt complete and not rushed. I do on the other hand have a problem with UMvC3 due to the fact that it feels like the original mvc3 was made so poorly in terms of character balance, glitches, xfactor balance, number of stages, horrible online down to the netcode and interface.

I wouldn't feel cheated buying UMvC3 if MvC3 felt more complete game and I'd gladly buy UMvC3 just for the new characters and stages, but it's like there making us pay for fixes and changes that should have came with the orignal game. so your MvC3 cost $100+tax

It's like rewarding capcom for releasing a rushed half assed game.

dopvlur said on August 4, 2011 at 1:41 p.m.

The crappy netcode and balance issues are their faults. The characters should be dlc optional.

They already have the technology and knowledge to make a more complete game from the start and to make it able to be updateable, but no, after 5 months (leaked months before) UMVC3!

Need it! Let's wait the leaks for UMVC3-X (megaman included).

Now the people will think twice to buy a game in the first installment, SFxT anyone?

If you're rich don't worry.

Super_Shoto_Fighter_4 said on August 4, 2011 at 1:41 p.m.

I'm going to buy UMvC3. There was an obvious demand for a rebalance and new characters. If the demand is there, Capcom will listen.

dopvlur said on August 4, 2011 at 1:53 p.m.

I look it in the other way. The games need more time in fan's hands, now everybody is toptiering because there's no time to try out the full cast or find new techniques, and the casual players wants a new game because can't win with the actual roster and thinks the "rebalanced" version is their chance to win.

Dude130 said on August 4, 2011 at 2:26 p.m.

but you just can't help but feel this is the game we should have gotten at the start

instead we got just mvc3 with a lackluster roster (in terms of numbers) and we get a significantly better game just 6 months after release of the first

just feels lame

alchow said on August 4, 2011 at 2:58 p.m.

1. Nothing Capcom does these days is for hardcore gamers. Fighting games are easier and more simple. Everything is geared toward main stream. Whoever thinks it's ok to buy the same game + a little more for 40 dollars because it's for hardcore needs to wake up and stop being gullible. Hardcore gamer is more passionate, not stupid.

2. Yes, the saving grace for Capcom is that there are other companies doing the same thing. We shouldn't be mad at Capcom because there are someone worse out there.

3. Capcom will listen to you argument is so old and so retarded. If Capcom listens, we would've had SF4 years ago, not 10 years after SF3. If Capcom listens at all, Yun and Yang would not both end up in SF4:AE. If Capcom listens, Phoenix Wright would be in MvC3, not UMvC3.

You people essentially are giving Capcom the ok to make an half ass game. Selling them to you then make you paid additional 40 bucks to fix the game a year later. I pity those who actually think Capcom is actually doing them a favor.

Sad....just sad....

powderedtoastman said on August 4, 2011 at 4:30 p.m.

@#45 dude130
The COD series and madden series get alot of crap for what they been doing, just you gonna see the capcom complaints here more for OBVIOUS reasons.

And your listing of the KOF games, in case you have forgotten sf2 series games variations take up about half the the kof titles released.

KOF: each iteration usually had different or remix music, Different stages, different story arcs, character changes(noticeable moves added/changed) along different characters being added and taken away, the way meter works, few with distinct battle system tweaks, graphical tweaks(sprites gotten smoother and more fluid over the years)98UM and 2k2UM(significant changes compared to originals)and to note most of them was built on the same console.

Sf2: gotten speed changes(lol) letting unplayable characters become playable, adding 4(+akuma) new characters over like ~8 iterations? Same story mode and reoptimized music(cps1 cps2 sounds)added 1 super for each, added a combo counter for what used to be unintended(lol) Few characters got added moves.

COD: lol MAPPACKS! new guns different story, same multiplayer. Its not designed with different characters in mind(big factor) only gun balancing last i checked(affect everyone equally). So with that in mind is gonna be essentially the same game with tweaks and gameplay modes when it comes to the competitive aspect. Cant compare to how fighters are handled.

capcom get alot of crap cause they are doing bare minimum when there is alot of options to grasp at. Then to charge what doesnt even deem fair. Maps packs in COD play a big factor in gameplay as would characters being added in a fighter, should be charged as much. But with each COD there is a decent single player aspect to it(which most fighters dont have) and also a factor fighters fan dont consider when comparing to a companies milking procedure.

So in essence capcom should get more flak as you are paying near full price for something that should be cheaper dlc as with each COD game there is the engaging single player mode thus warranting a full price tag(mvc3 or Umvc3 didnt have any real single player aspect, and none added in Umvc3 YET the pricing LOL). There is no defending madden LOL.

i hate COD and cant believe i just defended it due to trying to be unbias in viewpoints >:(

SethKilligan said on August 4, 2011 at 4:35 p.m.

Yes, it is sad that you come on a message board just to show others that you're drowning in your own sorrow. You have a right to complain but you don't have a right to be arrogant just because others don't agree with you. I don't understand how you can think Capcom "half-asses" their games. This has been their MO since the beginning. They have to release a bunch of games because they need money to make more games. Do you get how life works? COD sells more in one day than the whole SF4 franchise has sold in its entire tenure to date. Also, other video game companies are notorious for these practices. If you don't believe me, ask our buddies at EA Sports and refer to the Madden franchise.

The world doesn't revolve around you so the sooner you get that, the sooner you'll realize that buying games from Capcom isn't for you. You aren't the voice for all of us. It's a simple concept, don't buy the games if you aren't satisfied with them. Nobody is forcing you to shell out $60 for a Capcom game. If they did, then I'd have a little sympathy for you.

''12 new characters
8 new levels
Rebalanced characters
New moves
New modes
Better online
spectator mode''

Let me explain why I think its to much anyways:

12 new characters : This was supposed to be DLC. (And dont give me that..oh oh but 12x5 = 60$...I KNOW, BUT, would you buy ALL TWELVE CHARS? No you wouldn't, Capcom is making more money this way. (Who bought Jill + Shuma? ...yea)

8 New levels..A lot of players prefer playing on training mode due to distractions lol.

Rebalancing: Should be free

New moves: Eh..Tbh I do like this and its the only thing I rly like.

Better online: Should have been in MVC3: 70% Done edition

Spectator mode: Should have been in MVC3: 70% Done edition (Was promised to be free).

Half of the updates either should have been in the original MVC3, or would have given us more choice in picks (DLC). But the reason im mad is that its way to soon + that MVC3 was so unfinished. Else its fine, and an expected price.

SsjBizzle said on August 4, 2011 at 5:37 p.m.

But Im done ranting about it, I will buy it obviously but I was still pissed. @ DLC we would have been able to pick which chars to buy, cause im already sure I wont buy some (I know footage has yet to be shown, but I like to play chars I am familiar with..Hence me maining Dante before I knew how he played..same with Vergil now) which is 40% of the new ones)

But Ill buy it anyways and am looking forward to it.

Raven said on August 4, 2011 at 5:39 p.m.

Capcom will charge, they have to pay their staff to "design and build" new additions to games. So that cost trickles down to the consumer. You're supporting the people who put in the work to get you that content. If you don't support that, then just don't buy it, simple.

People think they should get everything free because of the information age, but companies are different. Anytime a company creates something it costs money.

fawaz said on August 4, 2011 at 7:51 p.m.

Bottomline: Capcom was supposed to do almost all of that in the original game, not in a wholly new game.

My question to Capcom: What should people do with their MvC3 copies? Will you continue support for it? OR Will you exchange them for UMvC3 at a discounted price?

T3rror said on August 5, 2011 at 12:08 a.m.

@45 Don't even try to say SNK did the same thing as capcom. All of those yearly SNK releases had new gameplay mechanics or expanded upon them.

Also they were only yearly releases in Japan or if you had a neo geo. Rest of the world had to wait at least 1 to 2 years for ports.

KoF '94(Released 1994. Start of the series)

KoF '95(Released 1995. Added the team edit feature and new characters. start of Orochi Saga)

KoF '96(Released 1996. New featuers: Roll and small to high jumps added to series, sprites redrawn, new moves for characters. New characters added.)

KoF '97(Released 1997. New gameplay mechanic which was Advance mode and extra mode. Able to choose between the two styles when creating teams. End Of Orochi Saga)

KoF '98(Released 1998. The first dream match. Added all characters from previous games. Ex versions of characters had different movesets.)

KoF '99(Released 1999. New gameplay mechanics added which were a striker, Counter Mode and Armor Mode systems. Also added new characters. Start of Nests Saga.)

KoF 2000(Released 2000. Expanded upon striker system with Active striker system. More striker characters. Also new playable characters.)

KoF 2001( Released 2001. Added new characters. Changed how strikers worked with new tactical order system. Example can have 3 strikers and 1 fighter or 4 fighters and no strikers. End of Nests Saga)

KoF 2002(Released 2002. Another dream match. Goes back to 3-on-3 fights. Similar system to 98's advance mode. Adds cancellable moves and rolls. Adds new character properties and moves. Return of some classic characters)

KoF 2003( Released 2003. Adds a new 3-on-3 tag system. New characters. Detailed stages. Start of Ash Saga)

KoF '94 Rebout( Released 2004 in Japan only. This was basically kof hd remix for 10th anniversary. Added 3D backgrounds HD Sprites. Online play and added team edit to this version.)

KoF XI( Released 2005. 3-on-3 Expands on tactical shift system. New mechanics include Quick Shift, Saving Shift, and Dream Cancels. Added more characters. Color edit and even more characters on ps2 version)

Orochi Collection (Released 2007. which has 95,96,97. This came out 9 years after originals released.)

KoF '98UM( Released 2008. Adds rebalance. more characters and new moves for previous ones. Also third system added called Ultimate.)

KoF '02UM( Released 2009. Adds Rebalance. More chracters. Color Edit. New desperation moves. New stags.)

After all that I can at least say UMvC3 does add a new gameplay mechanic with air x factor so it is different.

Yeah, so do ALOT of other companies, but at least Capcom knows it's lame of them and makes their game 40 dollars instead of 60 like every other company would. If you don't like Capcom go play another companies fighting game, like Blazeblue or Soul Calibur (ohoho).

I mean, it's lame how fast it's coming, especially for someone like me who got the collectors and it came in late from the Capcom store, but I really just want to play UMarvel with Frank West and Pheonix Wright and the spectator that I wanted.

You guys cannot be serious. If you'd actually take the time to play the most recent Madden titles you'd know that no 2 games are graphically or mechanically identical.

The ones who keep using that as an excuse and wrongfully comparing it to a fighting game update look like straight up fools. It's as different as night and day.

Oh and yeah KOF released a different title year after year. The keyword is different. If Rugal was the end boss for more than one KOF title he sure as hell played differently than the previous game. All KOF games featured a diverse enough to keep their fans interested.
