Marisa was first announced as a playable character in Street Fighter 6 on September 16, 2022, when the game's full launch roster was revealed. Her gameplay trailer was released on December 8, 2022, during The Game Awards 2022. She debuted alongside newcomers JP and Marisa, as well as legacy fighter Dee Jay in Street Fighter 6's pre-order trailer.
This powerful warrior is a brand new character in the world of Street Fighter made specifically for Street Fighter 6's playable roster. She joins Luke, Jamie, Kimberly, JP, Lily, and Manon as the newcomers in this title.
Marisa towers over her foes at an awe inspiring height of 6'8. She wears attire similar to that of a Roman gladiator, and while she actually wears a Spartan-style helmet that she removes during her fight intro, her bright red hair is styled in the shape of the helmet as well.
This new face in the world of Street Fighter is an up-and-coming jewelry designer who hails from Italy. She claims to have ancient Greek warrior ancestry, and as a child was inspired by a vision of the Colosseum in its prime.
Her fighting style revolves around Pankration, an unarmed combat sport introduced into the Greek Olympic Games in 648 BC. This style is also the basis for Gill and Urien's move sets.
What makes Marisa a formidable foe is not only her size and the range on her normal attacks, but also her super armor. Several of her moves are able to power through oncoming attacks, making it so her opponents need to be wary of what they're throwing out and when.
Marisa is also capable of charging all of her grounded heavy normal attacks. When she does, the frame advantage she gets on block increases by a good margin, making normally unsafe attacks not only safe, but advantaged, and adding more to her up-close pressure game.
