E. Honda was first confirmed to be a playable character in Street Fighter 6 on September 15, 2022. He was revealed alongside Blanka, Dhalsim, and Ken in a full gameplay trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2022.
The proud sumo wrestler first debuted on February 6, 1991 as one of the original eight fighters in Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior. He would go on to be a playable character in titles such as Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter 4, and even see a release as DLC for Street Fighter 5 joining the game alongside Kage, Poison, Lucia, Seth, and Gill in Season 4.
Honda received a fresh design for the new generation that is Street Fighter 6. Like his fellow Street Fighter 2 alum, this seasoned fighting game veteran has an older and more distinguished look to him, and now wears a black yukata with yellow and teal stripes on it, shorts (instead of his traditional fundoshi), and sandals.
In Street Fighter 6, E. Honda's goal is to spread the sport of sumo around the world. Despite having the skills to do so, his constant traveling has prevented him from a promotion, though he does have some consistency in life thanks to the opening of his Chanko House Edomon in Metro City where people can enjoy eating chanko hot pot and watching sumo battles.
Those who are fans of E. Honda's moveset in past Street Fighter titles will be happy to hear that much of it has been retained in Street Fighter 6. The powerful sumo can still clobber foes with Hundred Hand Slap, quickly close the distance with Sumo Headbutt, surprise from above with Sumo Smash, and scoop his opponents up with Oicho Throw when they least suspect it.
Much like Ken, Honda's two V-Skills from Street Fighter 5 are now standard special moves that can be accessed any time. Neko Damashi is a clap attack that can negate projectiles and be used in combos, while Sumo Spirit is a power up maneuver that buffs the properties of his next Hundred Hand Slap.
New to E. Honda's arsenal is a move called Sumo Dash. With it, Honda advances forward with a traditional sumo shuffle that can be followed up with more pressure or a launcher attack.
