Dee Jay was first revealed as a playable character in Street Fighter 6 on September 16, 2022, when the game's full launch roster was announced. His first official gameplay trailer would air on December 8, 2022, during The Game Awards 2022. His gameplay was unveiled alongside newcomers Manon, Marisa, and JP in Street Fighter 6's pre-order trailer.
The joyful musician and dancer first joined the ranks of Street Fighter on September 10, 1993, with the release of Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers in arcades. He hasn't been included in a Street Fighter title since the Street Fighter 4 series — which he joined with the release of Super Street Fighter 4 in 2010 — but would see past appearances in all versions of Street Fighter 2 that followed The New Challengers, as well as the Street Fighter Alpha series.
Dee Jay has seen a drastic overhaul to his appearance here in the modern age. Instead of his trademark orange workout pants that say "MAXIMUM" on them, Dee Jay now sports a bright outfit featuring the colors of the Jamaican flag, sunglasses, sandals, and a slick new hairdo.
In Street Fighter 6, Dee Jay is a world-wide dance music sensation who is always ready to party and have a good time. With a passion for music and fighting, this Jamaican superstar wows audiences with his hot new songs and stylish moves.
Players traditionally know Dee Jay as strictly a charge character who essentially started as Guile clone in terms of move set. In Street Fighter 6, however, this world warrior has a fresh tool set that not only incorporates his classic attacks into the mix, but adds several new layers to his combat that opponents will need to be ready for if they plan on taking home the victory.
Dee Jay's Air Slasher, Double Rolling Sobat, and Jackknife Maximum are all back in action in this installment of the legendary fighting game franchise, but they come with a twist. Certain versions of these special moves have the ability to be faked, seeing a fireball feint or an empty set of up kicks go into play that allow Dee Jay to fool his opponents into making mistakes.
As far as new maneuvers go, Dee Jay's Jus Cool is a sway that can be followed up with various attacks and moves that add even more to his already tricky arsenal. Using Jus Cool sees Dee Jay take a quick step back, creating a bit of space between him and the opponent, and from there he can fire into an overhead kick, a low kick, a launcher, and even a swift dash forward for extra mix up potential.
