Chun-Li was first confirmed to be a playable character in Street Fighter 6 on June 2, 2022. She made her first appearance among Ryu and newcomers Luke and Jamie in the first gameplay trailer for the game ever shown.
Her original video game debut took place on February 6, 1991 in the initial installment of Street Fighter 2. As the first female of fighting games, Chun-Li is vastly popular and has made a playable appearance in every main Street Fighter series except Street Fighter 1.
For the first time since Street Fighter Alpha, Chun-Li has seen a revamp of her visual design in Street Fighter 6. She wears a new, light blue dress with darker blue accents on it, a pattern of the sky and swallows flying on it, and darker blue tights underneath the dress.
A now former agent of the ICPO, Chun-Li watches over Li-Fen, a victim of the Black Moon Incident. With Shadaloo now dismantled, Chun-Li runs kung fu classes where she teaches up-and-coming talent her fighting style.
As a legendary returning world warrior, Chun-Li takes on the role of one of the "Masters" in Street Fighter 6's World Tour mode. Players are able to engage with Chun-Li in this single player experience and adopt some of her techniques to use in battle and traverse the world.
Like her appearance in Street Fighter 6, Chun-Li's playstyle has also been changed quite a bit from previous titles. She now acts as a stance character who can get low using her Serenity Stream special move, which changes her normal attacks and opens up her gameplay and strategies.
This doesn't mean that Chun-Li doesn't have the moves that fans have grown to know and love over the last 30 years. The Street Fighter 2 alum also comes equipped with her Spinning Bird Kick, her Kikoken projectile, and new to Street Fighter 6 sees the return of her Tensho Kicks (up kicks) that work as a solid anti-air option.
