Shao Kahn Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate moves

Tier Ranking: 36th MK11 Tiers Popularity: 8th

Shao Kahn was part of Mortal Kombat 11's 25 character starting lineup and, though he was technically a DLC bonus, was available to play upon the game's release back on April 23, 2019.

This franchise big baddie was first introduced as the final boss of Mortal Kombat 2 back in 1993, but players had to wait until Mortal Kombat 3 to take control of him. This was done via secret code, however, and he didn't join an official roster until Mortal Kombat Deception's release on October 4, 2004.

Shao Kahn carries his trademark hammer in Mortal Kombat 11 and wears his usual helmet and skull face covering. He has mostly red armor with black highlights underneath, and the parts of his exposed skin that can be seen have a scaly, inhuman quality to them.

As one might expect, this character doles out loads of damage when he lands a successful hit. The range his giant hammer affords him grants a particular advantage at the mid range as he can often reach foes before they can reach him. You wouldn't expect it from such a big body, but Shao can move relatively rapidly via wave dashing.

Where he struggles is in the fact that he must take risks to try to open up opponents. Where others can apply safe pressure, Shao often has to guess with attacks that are unsafe when correctly blocked. This is a fairly large detriment to the character, especially paired with the fact that many of his strings have Flawless Block openings in them.

Though he's been the most consistent and formidable of all Mortal Kombat's baddies over the years, Shao Kahn is just not that great of a competitive character in Mortal Kombat 11. He tends to be placed near the very bottom of most tier charts, and is most definitely in the conversation for being ranked one of the game's 5 worst by pro players.

Regardless of how effective he is in tournaments, Shao Kahn is still wildly fun to use as the power behind many of his attacks is palpable. Scoring those hammer haymakers and seeing huge chunks of life bars get lopped off is extremely satisfying, giving plenty of reason to pick up this classic combatant.

Not a complete move list, by far. Also, non "tournament" abilities should also be listed, as most players are not tournament players and will likely use the game's central shtick of customisation (over the developer-locked "presets").
