Rain was among the last of the additions to Mortal Kombat 11's cast as he joined the roster on November 17, 2020 as part of Kombat Pack 2.
Though he was a secret character in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Rain didn't see his official playable debut until October 10, 1996 when Mortal Kombat Trilogy dropped. He's since been in a few of the 3D MK games as well as Mortal Kombat 2011.
Though still clearly one of Mortal Kombat's ninjas, Rain's appearance has evolved to reflect his rising status as a demigod and Edenian authority. Clothed in purple garments with somewhat elaborate markings and accents, Rain also carries a jamadhar blade at all times.
His Geyser Palm augments his combos and is great for anti airs. Quantum Rift helps Rain against projectile and zoning heavy characters, and Edenian Force is a versatile maneuver that enhances parts of Rain's kit.
Rain is all about speed and rush down. He controls the neutral space very well with his rapid dashes and can cause opponents to take ill advised risks and whiff punish when they do. He can keep foes honest with pestering projectiles via his Katar Toss, which cannot be ducked under when amplified.
As fast as he is, Rain isn't all that great with pressure. He doesn't have much in the way of plus on block strings, so he relies on hit confirms almost entirely. He wants to zip in and get a clean hit, but when that doesn't happen, he has to reset and try again.
Rain is a top 20 character in most Mortal Kombat 11 tier lists. He excels in many match ups, but loses steam quickly when he's pinned down or when his opponents don't give him the openings on which he so heavily relies. His strengths are powerful, but not having a solid strike/grab mix up game in MK11 really hurts.
