Liu Kang was part of Mortal Kombat 11's 25 character starting lineup, and was available to play upon the game's release back on April 23, 2019.
The original protagonist of Mortal Kombat and first great champion of Earthrealm, Liu Kang was around from the very beginning as part of Mortal Kombat 1's release back on October 8, 1992.
Though he's been killed and sidelined a few times over the last few chapters of Mortal Kombat, the Shaolin Monk returns to Mortal Kombat 11 as the head hero. He wears familiar red wrappings and black pants, but now dons a white shirt and black vest instead of being bare chested. He also wears a pair of heavy duty wrist guards that make hand to hand combat with him look like a really bad idea.
The Chosen One has all of his usual attacks in MK11 as he's able to fling fireballs at various heights, zip across the stage with his flying kick, and treat opponents' chests like Rick James treats couches with his most iconic attack: the bicycle kick.
Liu is effective at various ranges on stage in Mortal Kombat 11 as his projectile game is virtually never weak, and his close up attacks are absolutely devastating. He can pressure opponents extremely well with hard hitting strings, and this naturally makes his staggered throw game especially effective. The fact that he has Krushing Blows attached to his throws makes it so that Liu doesn't really care whether he hits you with a strike or a throw as they're equally painful.
With as many tools as he has at his disposal, Liu Kang is one of Mortal Kombat 11's top options in competitive play. Professional players consistently place him in the highest tier, and many rank him in the top five or three of the entire cast.
One of Mortal Kombat's most familiar faces, Liu continues to protect the innocent and overcome the odds with one of the most oppressive kits in all of Mortal Kombat 11. Whether you've been a fan for the last three decades or you just want a really good shot at winning, Liu Kang is your guy.
