Jax was part of Mortal Kombat 11's 25 character starting lineup, and was available to play upon the game's release back on April 23, 2019.
Major Jackson Briggs joined the franchise back when Mortal Kombat 2 dropped in late 1993, and has made many playable appearances as a franchise staple since that time.
Jax's trademark metallic arms are back here in Mortal Kombat 11 as the character's most defining feature. They're nothing fancy, but they get the job done as they pack a very powerful punch. He also has a leather vest and black tank top on, as well as dog tags to remind us of his military involvement.
Jax has a special mechanic attached to his battle plan as his arms "heat up" as he performs successive attacks. The hotter he gets, the more damage he can dole out. He uses special moves like his Gotcha Grab and Quad Grab command grabs to make opponents afraid to block, but he's at his best when he's rifling off a flurry of heat-inducing punches.
Beat down strings with Jax are some of the most satisfying in all of MK11, and users are encouraged to often go ham and try to overwhelm opponents with barrage after barrage of attacks. This can be great when it works, but you definitely need some strategy and tact in your approaches from time to time.
Though not among the absolute best in the game, Jax is a higher tier character in Mortal Kombat 11. He is often ranked in the top 10-20 of the 37 available picks by professional players, and can quickly melt any opponent life bar with his overwhelming offense. That said, he can sometimes be zoned out despite having a few projectiles at his disposal, and this can really put a wet blanket on the character when it happens.
This is a character for players who are able to play in two gears: thoughtful approach and rabid rush down. It takes a special kind of player to be able to transition swiftly between these two, but Jax is at his best when he intelligently approaches, finds an opening, and then turns the offense up to 11.
