vVv Gaming closes fighting division after staff change, cites players not representing sponsor - mentions many accomplishments

vVv Gaming closes fighting division after staff change, cites players not representing sponsor - mentions many accomplishments Team vVv Gaming announced today on their forums that they are dropping their fighting game division. The guys from Team vVv have placed top 3 in King of Fighters 13, Virtua Fighter 5, Soul Calibur 5 and Mortal Kombat at numerous tournaments.

However with the recent staff changes, they thought it would be best to drop their team, and had this to say about that division being shut down.

vVv|Rinzler: With the change in leadership, and the logistical support that fighters need to properly represent their sponsors, like wearing their shirts at all times, interviewing, etc., it is without any elation that we must let our fighting games division go at this time. We wish them the best of luck, and we are proud to add their accomplishments to our hall of fame.

vVv|RobZGod: We sponsored our fighters throughout the road the evo, but their representation of the organization diminished as time went on. From forgetting shirts at multiple events to ignoring texts about interviews and opportunities it got to the point where we were put in this position. I agree that they are fun to watch and cheer for at events, but when it comes down to the numbers and value they just aren't a good fit for the direction that we are moving towards.

Capcom Unity details upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken balance update and DLC characters

Capcom Unity details upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken balance update and DLC characters Gregaman over at Capcom Unity posted a blog today detailing the new Street Fighter X Tekken balance patch and DLC characters that will be dropping on July 31, 2012. Ayano asked Street Fighter X Tekken's director Okada to write out a list of the changes being made to certain characters.

Below you will find a bit of the changes from Gregaman's blog.

Ryu
Airborne Tatsumaki Senpukyaku
The frame advantage on block has gone from a maximum of 11 frames (ver. 1.05) to a maximum of 6 frames. Also, the hitbox of the attack has been reduced. It’d be better to explain this with a screenshot, so take a look at the ones below.

HK Joudan Sokutogeri
Before the patch (v1.05) this move was +1 frame on block, but now it has been changed to a -6 disadvantage on block.

Ken
Airborne Tatsumaki Senpukyaku
The frame advantage on block has gone from a maximum of 11 frames (ver. 1.05) to a maximum of 6 frames. Also, the hitbox of the attack has been reduced.

Rolento
Standing Light Punch
The frame advantage on block has gone from a maximum of 4 frames (ver. 1.05) to a maximum of 0 frames. You can no longer easily put a player in block stun with this move, so players will have much stricter timing if they want to use this move as a trap.

Make sure to check out the full list of balance changes complete with screen shots on Capcom Unity. Tip by neoWhite

Harada unsure Nintendo fans will be accepting of Tekken characters in new Smash Brothers game

Harada unsure Nintendo fans will be accepting of Tekken characters in new Smash Brothers game It was announced a few weeks ago that Namco Bandai is working on the new Smash Bros. game with Nintendo. Katsuhiro Harada described it as a "big priority" for the company, however he's not sure how Nintendo fans will warm to Tekken characters in the game.

"We're not really sure at this moment, but when thinking of the playerbase who is playing Smash Bros., maybe Tekken characters are something they wouldn't want.

Company-wide, there are a lot of people involved with that particular project. Not just from Tekken, but a lot of our franchises.

Although our main core staff is busy with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and trying to finish that up, I do think we'll support the initiative in some kind of capacity."

Retro CMV - Street Fighter 2: World Warrior by Desk

The original release of Street Fighter 2 had a bunch of odd system mechanics, at least in comparison to modern games. Desk's latest combo music video revisits the title that started the fighting game craze for many, and runs through some of the zanier combos that were possible.

Harada: It is more relevant to get Tekken X Street Fighter out on current-generation of consoles

Harada: It is more relevant to get Tekken X Street Fighter out on current-generation of consoles Wonder how far along out Tekken X Street Fighter is? Well it might not be as long as you might think, Kasuhiro Harada told Euro Gamer that they are still planning on the release being for the current consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"There's still a large number of players out there with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 who are looking forward to the game," Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada explained. "So we feel it's probably more relevant to get the title out to them on the current hardware."

"We're not completely sure," he continued, "but that's the direction at this moment."

Sven: "X-Men" specific is off the table, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter would be possible, but in our opinion it's a relatively weak game

Sven: "X-Men" specific is off the table, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter would be possible, but in our opinion it's a relatively weak game Over on the Ask-Capcom forums, a user Kimbap629 posted a question about the possibilities of seeing X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter will the recent announcement of the release of Marvel vs. Capcom Origins.

Is there a chance that X-men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter will also come out and being given the same treatment at a later date? Is there a chance we'll see a set with Capcom vs. SNK PRO and Capcom vs. SNK 2? - kimbap629

Sorry but anything "x-men" specific is off the table completely due to licensing reasons. Theoretically MSH vs. SF would be possible, but frankly speaking, in our opinion it's a relatively weak game compared to the others. Given that we could only pick two, we picked the ones we felt were the most iconic in the series that informed what would become UMVC3.

And sorry, we're not in discussions with SNK for anything at this point in time. Maybe someday, but those days are probably very far away given the preponderance of projects we need to take care of at a higher priority. - Christian Svensson

Harada: If I was given the choice to include paid DLC or quit Namco, I would maybe quit

Harada: If I was given the choice to include paid DLC or quit Namco, I would maybe quit Euro Gamer had a chance to catch up with Katsuhiro Harada to discuss various topics such as paid DLC, the recent fan complaints concerning Tekken Tag Tournament 2 voice actors, on-disc DLC and more.

Harada drops some interesting bits of information in the article including the fact that he aims to keep downloadable content free of charge and that there may be instances where on-disc DLC could be necessary. Below are a few pieces from the article.

"When you look at DLC, whether paid or free, a lot of titles have it on the disc, it's not that unusual. I've been saying that, at least for Tekken, regarding techniques, characters and stages, these three things won't be charged for, even if they are DLC."

"Saying that, if someone has a particular character they've downloaded and they play someone who doesn't have that character, it might take five minutes for the person to then download the data to play against this person. This wouldn't be very realistic and wouldn't give a very favourable impression, so we do plan to address these issues. So some content may be on the disc, some might not. But since it's free it shouldn't be an issue."

If there's something that's not necessary, if it just enhances the entertainment value..." Harada begins to explain. "For example, a lot of fans have been asking for previous soundtracks. Fans have said they'd want to buy that. So maybe if we make those available, or some of the past ending movies... These are ideas that aren't essential to enjoy the game, and might be available for purchase."

And if his bosses said that wasn't enough? "If I was given the choice to include paid DLC or quit Namco, I would maybe quit... Or maybe I would just say 'get someone else to deal with this',"
