Granblue Fantasy: Versus features a nasty proximity option select that can erase some neutral and punish tech completely

Option select has become a fairly dirty term within the fighting game community referring to inputting specific moves that will perform entirely different functions based on what the opponent presses / doesn't press. Most are weeded out in updates, but they still pop up in new fighting game releases even in 2020.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus has been out for some parts of the world for less than a week, yet players have already discovered a powerful proximity option select which can punish people for trying to punish attacks or play neutral.

Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition's Tournament Mode seemingly won't be launching until late March, pushing up against the start of Intel World Open

Capcom seems to find itself between a bit of a rock and a hard place at the moment following the release of fan mods which alter Street Fighter 5's online connections just before they were about to launch their new feature and the start of the Intel World Open.

There was never any confirmation saying so, but many players assumed that Street Fighter 5's new online Tournament Mode would be releasing alongside the Champion Edition expansion this week. Now, we know that's definitely not going to be the case.

A third beta test for the upcoming online suite has been announced by Capcom to feature almost every major country and region in the world. These tests will run through at least mid-March and seemingly push right up against the start of the Intel World Open qualifiers.

Although it wasn't a traditional fighting game, Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. ended up being probably my favorite fighter of the previous generation, and the series' console entries appears to be returning to form after the last wasn't so well received.

Update: Arcana Heart and Chaos Code developers, Examu and FK Digital, are both ceasing operations, Arcana Heart series still in full production

Update 2: Examu and Team Arcana producer Takaya Koucho have clarified that the Arcana Heart series will be unaffected by Examu's suspension of business operations as Team Arcana will be fully handling all development.

Update 1: Following the surprise cancellation of Chaos Code: Next Episode of Xtreme Tempest, yesterday, it appears as though FK Digital isn't completely finished releasing video games. The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee has now rated Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe for the Nintendo Switch — the previous fighting game expansion the company released in 2017. Original story follows.

We're sad to come forward with unfortunate news about not one, but two fighting game development companies that will be putting an end to operations in the coming weeks.

Examu, the creators behind the Arcana Heart series, and FK Digital, the team responsible for the Chaos Code titles, are suspending development practices in late February and late March, respectively. The latter recently announced a brand new title, Chaos Code: Next Episode of Xtreme Tempest, at EVO Japan 2020, but has stated the project is now canceled.

At least around these parts, we can't think of a better way of waking up on your birthday to find a brand new Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet on and ready to go right there in your room with you.

That was the reality for one of @Amber_doll81's children as the lucky little one woke up to the sounds of the character select screen of his very own Arcade 1up Street Fighter 2 cabinet. The rest of us are lucky too as Mom was in the room to capture his reaction.

Three reasons why now is a great time to start playing, or get back into, Dragon Ball FighterZ

The hype wave for Dragon Ball FighterZ was immense when it first launched back in early 2018 and while we're still very much enjoying the three on three action, few community members would disagree with the sentiment that we could definitely use a tune-up to attend to a few lagging components.

What's been proposed and/or hinted at for FighterZ's upcoming third Season points to a development team that is well aware of the facets that need attention. Producer, Tomoko Hiroki, stated directly during last weekend's new season reveal that the general aim for Season 3 is to deliver a fresh experience. From what we can gather at this early stage, Dragon Ball FighterZ is about to offer a lot to a lot of potential players and so now is the time to get started or come back if you've been on the fence.

Justin Wong demonstrates how difficult approaching a zoning Metera is in Granblue Fantasy: Versus

Most of us in North America and Europe have to wait until March before getting out hands on Granblue Fantasy: Versus. Those that have no issues playing the Hong Kong or Japanese version of the game can actually start playing right now.

Evidently, Justin Wong is playing Metera in Granblue Fantasy: Versus. Based on the fact that Metera carries a bow with her, it's probably safe to assume that her playstyle rewards zoning.

Season 3 footage for Dragon Ball FighterZ reveals faster snapbacks to reduce 50/50 mix up situations

Snapbacks have always been an important mechanic in team versus fighting games like Marvel vs. Capcom. In Dragon Ball FighterZ, this was particularly strong as it basically guaranteed that the opponent would have to deal with one or numerous mix ups after being forced to switch out team members.

Footage of Season 3 has shown that the delay between a forced tag has been considerably reduced compared to Season 2. This obviously has a huge potential to affect the overall meta for Dragon Ball FighterZ in the game's upcoming third season.

iDom's victory at Capcom Cup 2019 was nothing short of amazing. While Laura is generally seen as being his main character of choice, Poison ended up being a crucial part of his achievement during the course of that weekend.

Kefla's Dragon Ball Super references in Dragon Ball FighterZ Season 3

While fans watching the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals this past weekend were expecting a gameplay trailer for Ultra Instinct Goku, Bandai Namco surprised everyone with the reveal of a second, previously unknown character. SS ranked matches featuring Lowain and Charlotta in Granblue Fantasy: Versus analyzed by HiFight

Although the game hasn't been out for a full week yet in Japan, there's been some discussion in regards to who might be the top fighters in Granblue Fantasy: Versus. Charlotta and Lowain — especially because of that Yggdrasil super — might end of being safe picks unless the meta develops in such a way so that they are figured out.

Despite the fighter not being available for very long, some players have already achieved SS rank in the recently released game. Needless to say, observing the tendencies of users that have been this successful during their online ventures may go a long way in improving anyone's performance.
