New feature: Top match videos for Street Fighter 4

New feature: Top match videos for Street Fighter 4 We've launched a brand new feature here on EventHubs.com, top match videos.

We started with Abel in Street Fighter 4 and have four great matches featuring two top players, Shiro and BustaBust.

While our text guides walk you through how to play the characters, it's also very helpful to see some great players putting these combos and strategies to use against real people.

This is also an area we could really use your help in building up. If you see a great match with some top level talent, please add a comment to this story, or the character's video page — as we create them — with a link to the match. If we end up using it, we will credit you for the submission.

Please keep in mind we're only looking for quality matches featuring top level players, and that we're aiming to showcase a variety of styles. The idea is to keep the video pages as diverse as possible and maybe introduce you to some techniques and players you may not know about.

And also... this is just the start of several new features we're working on here at EventHubs.com. The individual character guides still need some work, but we have so much more planned for the site — so please keep checking back.

Scoreboards down for PSN HD Remix, patch impressions

Scoreboards down for PSN HD Remix, patch impressions Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo's producer, Rey Jimenez, jumped into the fray again to let PSN users know to be a bit more patient when it comes to scoreboards. Here's his comment.

As some of you might have noticed, the scoreboards are down for PSN users. This is completely normal. To give you the detail on why, we've turned them off for a couple of days to let the "0 rating" bug clear off of your PS3's local cache. Please make sure you exit the game at least once over the next couple of days. When they turn back on this weekend, the leaderboards will be wiped and the "0 rating" bug should no longer occur.

Please note, this does not affect 360 users.

That aside, how has your experience been online now that the patch is out?

Usually when you check forums about this kind of thing, negative opinions often far outweigh the positive, because people who are ticked off tend to be more vocal.

So in trying to get a fair picture of how the patch is preforming, please chime in with your experiences and the system you play on in the comments area.

Street Fighter 4 basics videos by Darksyde Phil

Darksyde Phil, who's a darn good player in his own right, has started putting together some basic video guides for Street Fighter 4.

While these could use some editing and have some rough spots, they're still solid, especially for new players who are looking for some general advice.

Here's his Blanka guide.
He also has Sagat and Balrog (Boxer) video guides as well.

PS3 patch for HD Remix will be available at midnight

PS3 patch for HD Remix will be available at midnight As previously mentioned, the Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix patch has made its way online to European PS3 players, and according to Capcom, it was rolled out a bit prematurely.

The official release of the patch will happen at midnight (March 17) for PS3 owners outside of Europe, and no later than 2 a.m. on March 18, 2009 for XBox 360 users.

Capcom's Ray Jimenez, who is HD Remix's producer, provided these details in his most recent blog post, and also went on to mention that players who have already downloaded the patch might have trouble connecting for online games until everyone gets the new version.

The patch updates the game to version 1.10 and fixes these issues. The download, at least for the PS3 version, is 303 megabytes.

World tournament for Street Fighter 4 may be in the works

World tournament for Street Fighter 4 may be in the works Laugh on the Shoryuken.com message boards mentioned early today that he heard Yoshinori Ono say Capcom is working on a World Street Fighter 4 Tournament, which would involve one top player each from Korea, Japan, Europe and America.

This World Tournament is supposed to happen the same day as the end of the U.S. National Finals, April 18, 2009.

Iyo, the infamous Dhalsim player, is said to be representing Japan and recent winner, Poongko, would be coming from Korea.

No word yet on who the European player would be, but Guinness World Record holder Zak Bennett might be in the running.

In other news, Seth Killian posted a round 3 recap from the GameStop tournament and Shroyuken.com has some information about a few spots open for Americans in Super Battle Opera '09.

HD Remix patch rolling out to overseas players

HD Remix patch rolling out to overseas players A few reports are coming in that people in some countries outside of the U.S.A. are downloading a large 303 megabyte update for Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix on their PS3s — most assume this is the patch we've been patiently waiting for.

Capcom V.P., Christian Svensson, mentioned on March 9, 2009 that, "It [the patch] should prop 'soon.' I'm not wholly sure when though as I haven't had an update. It's been in for approval with Microsoft and Sony for some time now."

Last I heard, these updates take roughly a couple of weeks to go through, and judging from Christian's quote, we should be seeing this any day now.

You can scope out the full details on what the patch will fix here.

If you're prompted to download the patch, please leave a comment on this story with the console machine you use and the country you're located in so others know when they can download it as well.

More plans for Street Fighter anime sequence?

More plans for Street Fighter anime sequence? Seth Killian was on the Unity Boards today, and he hints at another Street Fighter anime project being in the works, possibly based off of the nearly 5 minute sequence showing Ryu and Akuma fighting.

You can see this video by going to the Japanese Street Fighter 4 website and clicking on the clip that's directly above the movie titled, Special Trailer for CAPTIVATE '08.

This may not turn out to be such a big deal though, because it might just be an extra feature when the presumed release of the Street Fighter 4 The Ties That Bind on DVD/BluRay hits shelves.

Regardless, here are Seth's comments from the boards.

You know those trailers with those anime clips and teasers? Well, none of them were in the final product [Street Fighter 4] - not in the game nor in the movie. I'm confused, were they just created for trailer purposes? — StuntXL

Seth: They may still be used for something else, but yes, not included at this time. Secret plans? ... Time will tell.

[Is there any news on the Championship Mode update?] It was said to come out on a few days after [Street Fighter] 4's release. — Ray

Seth: We haven't announced a release date for the Championship Mode update, but I think you got some bad info -- it was certainly never planned for a few days after release. It was only the character costume packs that were to be available right away, not this larger title update.

Anyway, we will be announcing the release date pretty soon, but no worries -- it's right on track as it has been from the start.

New Japanese SFIV strategy guide and art book

New Japanese SFIV strategy guide and art book Not to be confused with the Street Fighter 20th anniversary artbook, Capcom is also putting out a Street Fighter Anthology comic artbook, which is set to be released today (March 14th) in Japan.

The comic artbook is 128 pages and will run about $21 USD, although there may be an importer's mark up fee if you buy it from an online store.

Also there's a new strategy guide set to arrive in Japan in a few weeks called the Complete Guide to Street Fighter 4. This one is 208 pages and has a March 27th release date and will run about $22 USD.

I spoke with Capcom Community Manager, Seth Killian, about the 20th anniversary artbook and he said they're looking to bring it to American shores but there's no official word yet if it will happen.

Capcom not done making HD Remixed titles

Capcom not done making HD Remixed titles Capcom V.P. Christian Svensson told VideoGamer.com that the company was "potentially" going to apply the HD Remix treatment to other fighting games in its back catalog.

Christian said, "Are we done doing HD Remixes? No we're not done. But the next ones that we do will be even better, based on what we learned."

They also mention that Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix sold a phenomenal 250,000 copies last year, shattering both day one and week one sales records. Considering these numbers, it would be pretty foolish of Capcom NOT to make more HD Remixed titles.

There's a few more nuggets in this article, including mentions of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Definitely worth checking out.

IGN's History of Street Fighter

IGN's History of Street Fighter Spotted over on Capcom-Unity that IGN has created a great piece on The History of Street Fighter.

It explores the humble beginnings to the current state of the series, including artwork and employee notes.

An absolute must read, here's a copy and paste.

Bridging the gap between Street Fighters I and II, the Alphas fleshed the old characters' backstories out and introduced new ones. Guile's doomed friend Charlie (Nash in Japan), whose murder he fought to avenge in SF II, was a playable Guile-like fighter with crazy Guile-like hair. Precog Rose held a special connection to Bison, employing Soul Power against his Psycho Power. Pink gi-wearing wimp and egomaniac Dan Hibiki started life as a slap against SNK's "weaker" fighting games, but became a handicapping fan favorite for his mastery of the infinite taunt and a finishing move that let him take out opponents by blowing himself up. SF I's Birdie (now a black and blonde punk), Gen, Eagle and Adon made comebacks after eight to ten year absences.

In what would become the first of many franchise crossovers, Funamizu also brought in Guy, Sodom, and eventually Rolento and Cody Travers himself from his old Final Fight games. Maki would join them in a portable port of Alpha 3.
