Street Fighter X Tekken: Developer blog goes more in-depth with the gem system

Street Fighter X Tekken: Developer blog goes more in-depth with the gem system UPDATE: Capcom Unity posted their official translation of the blog today. This story has been fact-checked with it.

The Street Fighter blog was updated today with some notes regarding meter building gems, or Boost Gems, in Street Fighter X Tekken. Check them out below.
  • The blog says that there is a certain category of Boost Gems called "Onslaught Gems", and it lists five of them.
  • All five of the listed Onslaught Gems have the same boost (50% meter gain increase) and same active time (15 seconds).
  • The five gems' activation conditions are as follows; strike with three special moves, land a Launch attack, have your partner perform a Launch attack, do a reversal, or have four attacks guarded.
  • You cannot equip 2 or more of the same gem.
  • If you want to set three of the Boost Gems, they must have different activation conditions.
  • This Gem system is basically set up so if you want to get a great benefit, the conditions become harsher and harsher.
  • They say that they wish to encourage multiple-gem activation stacking.
They also discuss the SSF4 AE tournament in Japan that they are sponsoring (March 3rd) and reaffirm that the SSF4 AE 2012 changes will be posted on November 30th.

SilentBob's Urien writeup wins November guide contest

SilentBob's Urien writeup wins November guide contest The latest guide contest for the EventHubs forums has been won by SilentBob. He wins this month's $50 prize for his 3rd Strike Urien guide.

SilentBob carefully covers Urien's special and normal moves along with some very useful combos. This is a great primer to begin with if you're interested in the character.

If you're interested in writing a guide to create a challenge for the 50$ prize or if you just want a nice place to relax and talk about fighting games, go ahead and check out the forums.

All Capcom games are eligible for this prize, and the contest is held monthly. Previous winners are prevented from winning again, but there will be a larger contest for a bigger prize down the line, and everyone will be eligible for this.

Here's a piece from the guide.

Combo Follow Up

[Last Combo]

NOTE: This combo allows you to set the Reflector over your opponent and use the Headbutt or Knee Drop to cross over your opponent and push him into the Reflector using Quarrel Kick while he wakes up. Every time he hits the Reflector, he will bounce back towards you and allow you to combo into cr. Fierce once the Reflector dies. Chose the best combo to follow up the cr. Fierce with depending on if the combo will end mid-screen or in the corner.

Resets

Reset 1: After a combo, you can do a Quarrel Punch to reset your opponent. Immediately after doing the Quarrel Punch, do a Jab Metallic Sphere and cancel it into Jab Aegis Reflector. This will force your opponent to block the Metallic Sphere and instantly be trapped in your Reflector. You can then follow up with a low or overhead attack and follow up with a combo on hit. This can easily lead to 60% to 75% damage if not more depending on your opponent's stamina.

Reset 2: After a combo, you can do a Roundhouse Violence Knee Drop to get close to your opponent and follow up with a Strong Dangerous Headbutt to cross over your opponent while he is waking up. You can then follow up with a grab or try another combo. Risky reset because if an opponent suspects it, he can spot the Knee Drop and either block and punish or tech your throw. Though if you do land it, it deals 50%+ damage including the combo on characters with Average stamina. If after the Knee Drop you are between the opponent and the Reflector, you can follow up your Headbutt cross over with a Quarrel Kick to push your opponent back into the reflector, which will cause him to bounce back towards you.
