Ono: DLC updates for Super Street Fighter 4 coming

Ono: DLC updates for Super Street Fighter 4 coming Yoshinori Ono held an interview back in July with the official UK PlayStation site.

In the write up, Yoshinori mentions again that there won't be another iteration of Street Fighter 4 released, but that more downloadable updates will be made available, similar to the tournament mode package they released in June.

This prior DLC update not only added a new mode to the game, but also included various fixes and changes.

It was stated at San Diego Comic-Con this year that there would be new costumes released in the fall. Also, new characters are being created for the arcade version, and it seems very likely these fighters will be added to the console versions at some point via an update, considering Ono's statements.

Current rumors claim there will be 6 fighters added to the game, although only two extra slots have popped up so far.

Here's a copy and paste from UK PlayStation interview, which also includes other notable things.

Will there be additional tweaks made to the arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV and any of the characters? If so, would those changes make it in an update for the PlayStation 3 version? (Delriach, UK)

Ono: The arcade version is at least going to be a perfect port of the console version. Whether we can add some extras to it will depend on the players' passion and whether we have enough energy to work through the nights. If we do make some changes to the arcade version, it is not impossible to apply the same changes to the PS3 version. However, as I can't get down to it yet, I have to ask you to wait for a while.

Are you going to place a search option within the replay channel, in order to search by friends? (Gerwulf_, Spain)

Ono: I have received this request from all over the world. I appreciate that many players are utilizing the replay channel. As for a search option, we regard this as a priority area to sort out.

Are you going to release any other Street Fighter IV titles or is this the last one? (Morphing, Spain)

Ono: We don't plan to release a Hyper or Ultra SFIV. SSFIV is the last major update, and we plan to release small downloadable updates like we did in June 2010.

Is there any chance that the next update could include an option to disable input short cuts and allow for more accurate inputs? (Solas, UK)

Ono: We are not going to include the option for the next update as both input short cuts and accurate ones are already accepted as a part of the SSFIV rule book. However, if we have an opportunity to change the rule book in the future, we would make the system to be fair for all users with different input preferences.

A huge shout out goes to Ashstampede for sending this over.

Street Fighter X Tekken details from Ono and Harada

Street Fighter X Tekken details from Ono and Harada IGN posted a solid article examining Street Fighter X Tekken a bit more, and also the other cross over game Tekken X Street Fighter.

Yoshinori Ono and Namco's Katsuhiro Harada sketch out a few details concerning the upcoming titles. Besides trading a few jabs, you get the sense these games are still getting their details fleshed out, but both guys offer some insight into the directions they plan on taking.

Definitely not the heaviest hitting article you'll ever read, but if you'd like to hear more about the approach these guys are taking, it's worth looking over. Here's a snip.

How familiar would, say, Street Fighter X Tekken feel to a seasoned Street Fighter IV player? "As you can see on our logo," said Ono. "We're not specifying Street Fighter IV or Tekken 6. We're not going to confine ourselves. It is going to be Street Fighter and Tekken, and that includes all the titles." Harada chimed in with, "I'm sure that the graphical look of the game might change and the gameplay elements and such will be quite different. For each of our franchises it's not like each cross game is just going to be a continuation of our individual franchises. It's something that's going to be quite different."

Thanks to Saiferoth for mentioning this.

New Street Fighter X Tekken gameplay footage

New gameplay footage for Street Fighter X Tekken, the Capcom version of the upcoming fighter, was posted from GamesCom on IGN this morning.

This shows a similar set up to the other gameplay video that was recorded at San Diego Comic-Con, as such, this clip doesn't offer much new stuff besides seeing a few more moves in action.

Also, Capcom-Unity has a clip of some live actors portraying these characters up on stage at GamesCom, including Yoshinori Ono dressed as Chun-Li.

Developer on MK vs. SF: 'I think it's inevitable'

Developer on MK vs. SF: 'I think it's inevitable' NowGamer.com picked up an interesting quote from one of the Mortal Kombat developers, Hector Sanchez, at GamesCom. He reiterated that the a mash up title between the two franchises had been pitched by Ed Boon, one of the co-creators of Mortal Kombat, over ten years ago.

While that obviously didn't move forward, Sanchez added that he felt a crossover title from both companies was inevitable.

A quote from one of the developers doesn't make this any where close to a reality, but it sounds like there's at least some of the staff who'd really like to see this happen.

Capcom V.P., Christian Svensson, mentioned something about a potential mash up between these two companies back in early July, although he sounded less enthusiastic, simply stating, "I'm not dead set against it [happening]."

Kotaku offers first look at Tekken X Street Fighter

Kotaku got their hands on a few prototype game model images for Tekken X Street Fighter, the Namco version of the upcoming crossover game.

Here's a clip from the article.

Harada offered a very early look at the 3D Ryu model being worked on in the Tekken style, one that he stressed was not finished with proper lighting or even with a final uniform. In the shots shown off at Gamescom, the Tekken X Street Fighter version of Ryu was wearing the gi of Paul from Tekken.

The producers of Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter asked fans not to worry too much about the current prototype state of the model, pleading that they'll keep groaning on Facebook and Twitter to a minimum.

WCG Ultimate Gamer starts tomorrow, preview clip

A preview clip of WCG Ultimate Gamer was posted on IGN this evening. Although this isn't directly Street Fighter related, Justin Wong is one of the participants in this season's competition and in this clip he competes against other gamers at Tekken 6.

The show starts tomorrow at 11 p.m. EST and future episodes will run on Thursdays at the same time. If this time doesn't work for you, Hulu.com has an archive up for last season, and very likely will have another up for this year.

Thanks to MarkMan for pointing this out.

Cross Counter episode 8, Combofiend vs. Marn

This week's episode of Cross Counter changes up the pace a bit, as two very well known players, Peter "Combofiend" Rosas (Guy) and Martin "Marn" Phan (C. Viper) compete on the center stage.

Gootecks and Mike Ross feel that Combofiend has the best Guy on the planet and Marn has won his fair share of tournaments, so this is definitely an epic match. Here's the clip.

Super Street Fighter 4 Fei Long combos in real battles

Ady187 pointed out this new combo video for Fei Long in Super Street Fighter 4 by XMikkeX and MoniraKing.

This takes a different approach than most combo videos, because instead of a bunch of crazy combos that you may not ever see in a match, all of these actually happened during real fights.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 character announcements this week, other stuff

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 character announcements this week, other stuff Capcom mentioned that new characters for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be revealed week, as their Europe team left this message via Twitter.

GamesCom begins this week in Cologne. Now doesn't that seem like a good time for some more Marvel vs. Capcom 3 character announcements?!

Also, Capcom's Christian Svensson and Rey Jimenez made some posts on the Unity Boards concerning the characters who have been ruled out and future titles.

Why isn't Capcom listening to fans who want Phoenix Wright and Ghost Rider in MvC3?

Sven: The roster is fairly final at this point and has been for a while. That said, your questions and suggestions may play a role in future decisions.

You guys had complete access to the entire library of Marvel characters, and you left out people like Daredevil and Ghost Rider, that's stupid.

Jimenez: That's quite the assumption there. Capcom did not have complete access to all Marvel characters. Also, and this was probably said before, Marvel has final word on who ends up in the game on the Marvel side.

Do you guys plan on releasing these games? Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Final Fight 4, Street Fighter 5, Street Fighter 3rd Strike HD Remix, Street Fighter X Tekken, Resident Evil 6?

Sven: We've announced MvC3 and SF X Tekken. I can't comment on the others. Beyond that, you'll hear about several new titles before the end of this calendar year and more still at Captivate early next year.

Finally, Yoshinori Ono made a potentially interesting post via Twitter recently, it reads:

How's Yun and Yang coming along for Super Street Fighter 4? ;)

Ono: I'm left speechless...

This could be reading into a simple post WAY too much, but it's possible Ono couldn't say anything more about these characters because they're going to be added to the arcade version of the game.

At the same time, this could be way off track and he's simply not able to comment on this subject for other reasons.

Ono: We don't own the rights for SF EX characters

Ono: We don't own the rights for SF EX characters Yoshinori Ono ruled out any Arika Street Fighter EX characters making their way into Super Street Fighter 4 on his Twitter account. Here's the dialogue from his posts.

Will there ever be another Street Fighter EX game?

Ono: Ummm, we do not [know]....

Please put Hakuto and Kairi from SF EX into Super Street Fighter 4.

Ono: We don't have all [of the] rights for [the Street Fighter] EX series. It's difficult.

Could you make a deal to get Skullomania in SSF4 as a DLC character?

Ono: [That would be] difficult. ;(

Another Street Fighter short film in the works

Another Street Fighter short film in the works Trailing in behind Street Fighter: Legacy and Street Fighter: Beginnings End, another Street Fighter short is being filmed with the hopes of turning into a franchise reboot.

LazyGamer caught up with DeVille Vannik, who will be playing Ken for a quick interview. Here's a snip.

So we hear you are working on some Street Fighter promo videos, what can you tell us about the project?

DeVille: Well I can’t say all that much at the moment but it is a promo that will be used by the creators to pitch the idea for a remake to the big shots at Capcom.

Will these videos be used for public viewing, or are they created to try and get more money thrown at a larger project?

DeVille: Yes, the promo will go public and it will also be used to draw some investors to the project.

How many character/actors are involved in the project? Will fans like where it’s going?

DeVille: For this promo its Ken and Chun Li. The storyline is different than what’s been done before so I’m sure fans will enjoy it.

Who are you playing in the promo, and what does it entail? Do you have to kick some ass?

DeVille: I play Ken Masters and in the promo and I’ve come to China to find Ryu, he’s last known whereabouts lead me to a dojo where I meet Chun Li. And yes, there will be some ass kickery for sure.

The people behind Street Fighter: Legacy also talked about moving forward with a mini-series or paid featurettes, but it's been awhile since any additional news has come out about the project.

Thanks to Ognipode for the heads up.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 news digest, extra notes

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 news digest, extra notes Quite a few new Marvel vs. Capcom 3 details hit the web this evening. To save you the time of reading through every article, here's a bulleted recap of the notable stuff.

If you want to read everything for yourself, check out the sources at the end of this story.

• MvC3 will contain a Simple Mode where there will be only one or two attack buttons. This is for new fighting game players so they can get used to things. They can switch to Standard Mode when they feel like they've got the hang of the title.

• Niitsuma confirmed there will be DLC of some sort for MvC3, what exactly will be in these packs hadn't been decided yet though.

• Certain character combinations will enable you to do things that you otherwise wouldn't be able to do. Also, Niitsuma specifically said that they're pushing the individualism of the characters much more so than they did in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

• Capcom-Europe is currently filming MvC3 player guides with producer Niitsuma-San & general fighting game fanatic Electric Leo.

• The plan to do Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was in place before vanilla Street Fighter 4 was launched. Although Capcom was encouraged by SF4's sales, MvC3 wasn't built in reaction to the other game's success.

Third Strike Yang combo video by KYSG

Noticed over on IPlayWinner that a new Third Strike combo video featuring Yang was posted by KYSG. This gets a bit repetitive, as it's just the same character for over 4 minutes, but there are some really cool combos in here regardless.
