The matches that sent Daigo and Infiltration packing - John Choi vs. Daigo, Eita vs. Infiltration EVO 2014 Ultra Street Fighter 4 videos

It's been a crazy day of upsets over at Day 1 of EVO 2014 (full results here), what with two former world champions for Street Fighter 4, MCZ|Daigo and Infiltration, getting sent out of the tournament before even the Top 16 play-offs.

And to top it off, the players who sent them packing were specialists for characters that both MCZ|Daigo and Infiltration were known for -- John Choi (Ryu) and Eita (Akuma).

Unfortunately, both matches were played off-stream, so those of us who weren't physically at the EVO tournament grounds were able to watch John Choi and Eita's triumphant moments live as they happened.

But all is not lost; thanks to the valiant efforts of a few FGC members on the scene -- Team Spooky and BornFreeYT -- who captured off-screen footage of the matches in progress, there is video.

Check out the EVO USF4 off-screen videos for MCZ|Daigo (Evil Ryu) vs. John Choi (Ryu), and Infiltration (Akuma) vs. Eita (Akuma) below.

Updated: Maya has been revealed as Killer Instinct season 2's next playable fighter. We have added a few more images, including a glimpse of her stage.

What we know so far is that Maya's play-style heavily revolves around her daggers. She has the ability to lose them, has something called "Blade Bouncing," and she can even level up her weapons. KI Central notes that Maya can recapture her daggers, using them similarly to a boomerang.

Updated: Capcom looking into developing Street Fighter 5 on PS4 and Xbox One, Ono says earlier report about pay to win not accurate

Updated: Capcom's Yoshinori Ono addressed Sports Nippon's report today and said that the "pay to win model is not accurate and isn't something we're planning for.

"Sorry for the confusion! We're still in early planning stages and will share more at a later date," added Ono.

Earlier: Although Capcom did not announce a new fighting game at E3 this year, according to Sponichi Annex, the online portal for the Sports Nippon Japanese newspaper, one of the fighting games maker's top executives did make a few comments regarding the next Street Fighter.

Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto said to media representatives in a group interview at E3 that the Osaka-based games maker has plans to develop a Street Fighter 5, and that it would not only fully utilize the unique features of online gaming, but also attempt to broaden the player base by making it more accessible for newcomers, Sponichi Annex reported.

"We'd like to steer away from making the next game such that skilled players will win, but unskilled players will lose almost instantaneously," Tsujimoto said.

Update: This story has been updated with screenshots and art for the Mii Fighters characters which can be viewed after the jump.

Nintendo announced today that Mii Fighters would be selectable in the new Super Smash Bros games. They stated they're just as competitive as the other characters. Here's the rundown.

Mii Brawlers: They fight empty-handed and prefer to be up close and personal. Mii Brawlers are both fast and powerful.

Mii Swordfighter: These are weapon masters, they stay cool and calm as they chase down opponents.

Mii Gunners: Are armed with mysterious arm cannons and they have lots of different projectiles that can be fired from long range.

Each of these types can choose 4 special moves out of 12 options available. That means there are 36 total special moves that can be chosen, among the three classes.

Tiers launched for Ultra Street Fighter 4, old rankings for SSF4 AE v2012 archived

We've launched the new tier listings for Ultra Street Fighter 4 today, which means we've reset and archived the SSF4 AE v2012 rankings.

You can find the archived rankings down at the bottom of the USF4 tiers page, where they'll be preserved for eternity.

As USF4 was just released, you can expect the tiers to vary wildly over time. As such, look at this as a way to share knowledge early on, but not the absolute way these rankings will look in the days/weeks/months that follow.

Keep in mind trolling our tiers will result in a ban, and our system will detect and zap your account if you attempt to abuse your votes.

The tiers section updates once per hour with all of the latest data that has been submitted, so keep checking back to see how things are evolving.

As part of the tier launch, we've also rolled out new stats pages for USF4, and people with accounts on our site can now add Decapre, Elena, Hugo, Poison and Rolento into their profiles.
