Mortal Kombat X patch adds balance changes, ping accuracy, ranked connection rejections and more

A patch for Mortal Kombat X on the PlayStation 4 is set to drop within the next few hours, and it offers a whole host of changes and improvements. A patch for the Xbox One is said to be dropping "soon."

There has been no word on when this update will be released for PC gamers.

Online players will be happy to know that higher ping accuracy will be included in this release, along with the ability to reject people in ranked match if their connection is too awful.

Today's update comes in at a nearly 4GB file size. From the looks of it, players on PlayStation 4 can already begin downloading it.

Gengar announced as Pokkèn Tournament's next playable character

During the Nico Nico Chokaigi Pokkèn Tournament stream, a new character was announced. Gengar, the ghoulish ghost Pokèmon, will be the game's next playable fighter.

Serebii.net reports that Gengar was actually selected by the public in a Twitter campaign that ran when the game was first revealed back in August of last year.

Other details revealed on the stream include Gengar's Burst Attack -- which will see Gengar transforming into his Mega Evolution -- and a new stage that is set in the middle of a town.

Win a joystick by writing tips about Mortal Kombat X on EventHubs

Our latest contest is a giveaway for submitting helpful advice to our Mortal Kombat X moves database.

To win, all you need to do is leave helpful tips for any of the characters in the game, and their moves. Here's an example I wrote for Rose's Soul Spiral in USF4.

Again, the concept is very simple, just leave advice on how to play MKX. We'll choose the people who submit the best advice — and the more you submit — the better your odds.

We're giving away two joysticks valued at $199 USD apiece (it's fine if shipping + tax costs more), to two different users — so one stick for each winner. Users can choose between an EightArc (Qanba), Mad Catz or Razer joystick, as long as it doesn't retail for more than $199 USD — for any system they'd prefer.

You can find the official rules after the break.

Mortal Kombat X review: NetherRealm's blockbuster gore-fest is here to stay

I've played Mortal Kombat 9, I've played Injustice: Gods Among Us, and now, I've played Mortal Kombat X -- the latest title in NetherRealm Studios’ fighting game repertoire. The blockbuster gore-fest that is MKX is on the verge of its official release, and we here at EventHubs were given the opportunity to get quite a bit of hands-on time with the new current-gen fighter.

Today, we’ve prepared for you a written review of Mortal Kombat X on PlayStation 4. How does this installment stack up against its predecessor? Are Variations as much of a game changer as NRS intended them to be? And, damn it! Who's next?! We’ll be answering all of that (well, most of it) and more right here, right now.

From the start, Mortal Kombat X’s presentation comes barreling at you like a demon bat (Puggles) right out of Hell. This game is beautiful; from the detailed backdrop that lines the main menu screen (dependent upon which Faction you pledge to) to the rich character models that interact on the character select screen, this game is an absolute joy to look at. Lighting and weather effects are realistic, severed limbs are disgustingly intricate, and characters even take battle damage as the fight rages on.

It’s everything you could ever want and/or need in a Mortal Kombat game.

Tekken 7 characters leaked: Jin Kazama, Devil Jin, and brand new fighters

It looks as though character data for Tekken 7, which was just released in arcades yesterday, has leaked a handful of new fighters.

Avoiding The Puddle reports that Jin Kazama, Devil Jin and another new female fighter will be featured in the game. Additionally, what appears to be a brand new male fighter was also found amongst the data. Although this mystery character's design looks to be new, this could also be an alternate costume for a returning fighter, but neither has been confirmed yet.

Here's Johnny! New Mortal Kombat X trailer officially reveals Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage as playable

This morning, WBGames has released a brand new trailer focusing on the Cage family. Snappy dialogue, Fatalities, combos, and more await you. The family dynamic is both hilarious and brutal, especially considering the kind of universe the Cage's live in.

Despite constant violence and the risk of death, the Cage family comes off like they're from a 1980's sitcom. One-liners appear a healthy part of the bloodline. Not only that, but this trailer officially reveals that both Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade will be playable characters in Mortal Kombat X.

It's also worth noting that Shinnok, Baraka, Kenshi, and someone who appears to be Jax (a man with two cybernetic arms) show up in the trailer, though they're not confirmed as playable.
