EX special moves and Ultras made their first appearance in Street Fighter: The Movie, the game; Alpha Counters were also included

If you've managed to get some hands-on time with any of the Street Fighter games that were released after the SF2 series, then chances are you've run into EX special moves, Alpha Counters, and Ultras at some point or another. These game mechanics are used very often in modern Street Fighter titles, and Capcom / Namco's recent crossover fighter, Street Fighter X Tekken, actually incorporated a form of all three into its gameplay.

Each of the aforementioned game mechanics has its respective game where it was originally introduced: Street Fighter Alpha (Alpha Counters), EX special moves (Street Fighter 3), and Ultras (Street Fighter 4). Or so we thought...

It may surprise you to hear that these concepts weren't actually brand new by the time those titles were officially released. A game that is only spoken about in hush tones throughout the Street Fighter community actually included these mechanics before or at around the same time as the 3 titles mentioned above.

That's right. Street Fighter: The Movie, the game, had EX special moves, and its own form of Alpha Counters and Ultras. Hit the jump, and we'll tell you all about it.

Blocking? Running away? There's no escape: Team RnK has unbelievable coordination with their Cross Assault combos / setups - SFxT montage

Team RnK (Ichigo, and Lucius) have been prime contributors in the act of keeping Street Fighter X Tekken going strong. Playing a wide variety of characters, these two definitely have a deep understanding of the game.

Ssf4evo put together a compilation that gives us a look at the most coordinated SFxT team we've ever seen. As the video shows, once these players activate Cross Assault, there really is no chance of escape.

The combos / set ups used here are truly awe-striking, and just thinking about the time they must have put in practicing each specific timing, with numerous different characters no less, hurts my brain.

This is madness! No, this is Street Fighter X Tekken! - RnK team uses double super and mind bending setup to score K.O.

Street Fighter X Tekken is a game which has waned in terms of popularity, but some crazy stuff is still being discovered in the game.

This time RnK|Lucius (Raven) and RnK|Ichigo (Lars) have a cross assault setup that has to be one of the most difficult things I've seen in recent memory to block, and it culminates in both players charging up a full super in the process.

Not only do their tactics get the job done resulting in a K.O., you have to give these guys a tremendous amount of style points for putting this together. Hit the jump to check out the very impressive clip.
