NowGamer recently conducted an interview with Sony Santa Monica's Seth Killian to discuss the recently released brawler, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale and other topics. Killian gives his thoughts on PS All-Stars making an appearance at Evolution 2013, the future of fighting games, customization in Capcom games and more. Is this the kind of game you’d like to see at Evo then?
Yeah. So the good early sign is that there’s a bunch of other tournaments that are sort of the ones everyone watches, they happen in early January, who have been very interested in All Stars and asked if it can be part of their event. So that’s a good early sign.
Evo will really be dependent on the players. If we can find the audience and the audience is there… because that’s the thing. There are great games every year that don’t make it to Evo. Whether it’s BlazBlue, which obviously everyone thinks is a great, really interesting core fighting game but sometimes doesn’t have the audience in the US or outside of Japan, that’s not able to hold up… doesn’t get to Evo. So obviously we need All-Stars to be popular in that way, to some degree. But I think in terms of gameplay, it absolutely deserves to be there. I’ll say that without question.
I also personally hope it’s there. Not just as part of a legacy or being proud as a developer to have a game that ends up at Evo, which is a pretty great honour, but just because I think it’s also going to attract a new audience that wouldn’t have played a traditional fighting game.
I think getting those guys exposed to the wider world of fighting games is really good for everybody. It will put a lot of fresh blood in the scene and I’m absolutely confident people that will begin their fighting game career with All-Stars will end up playing our traditional favourites in Tekken or Street Fighter or Marvel.

Seth Killian wrote an installment of the Playstation Blog recently to drop a few bits of information about Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. Both the Playstation 3 and PS Vita versions have gone gold, meaning the games are finalized and ready to be sold next week on November 20th. Beyond arcade mode with intros, endings, and rival cut-scenes for every character and all the multiplayer stuff, All-Stars has tons of interesting challenges and trials (both overall trials and character-specific stuff). Certainly it’s hundreds of hours of content there, and a very extensive set of unlocks, from titles, to taunts, to character-specific intro and outro moves, musical themes, badges, etc. Hope this helps.
This Playstation Blog also features the intro cinematic for PS All-Stars that was released last week. This shows a glimpse at Polygon Man, the final boss of the game.

Siliconera recently sat down with Playstation All-Star Battle Royale director, Omar Kendall, for an interview discussing the upcoming Playstation brawler. Kendall touches on various topics including the process of getting first and third party characters into the game, how the negotiations for Crash Bandicoot occur on a higher level than SuperBot and that there will be no secret characters to unlock. Did you try for Crash Bandicoot at all? Crash was so synonymous with the PlayStation brand early on even though he’s at Activision now.
Yeah. I have to say it’s not that Superbot is some independent developer chasing down third-party characters. This is a negotiation that happens on a much higher level than Superbot, with Sony and Activision, these two giant companies.
And I completely understand how big and important a character like Crash is to the PlayStation universe. We want to make it clear to fans that we understand how important a character Crash is to the PlayStation universe. Obviously, we try everything in our power to try and get characters like Crash.
Are there any secret characters in the game that you still haven’t revealed?
Playable? No. We’ve got our 20 launch characters and they’re unlocked from day one. We’ve got some secrets, but not on our playable roster. If I really dig Sly Cooper and he’s not unlocked on day one, that’s going to be a bummer for me, so we want to make sure the characters are available.
