SuperBot Entertainment hit with layoffs, report says around 20 people lost jobs

SuperBot Entertainment hit with layoffs, report says around 20 people lost jobs A Sony spokesperson confirmed with IGN that SuperBot Entertainment has been hit by a round of layoffs and made a reduction in their workforce today.

News first broke by Insomniac game designer, Mike Birkhead on Twitter, and Sony has since confirmed.

SCEA can confirm that SuperBot Entertainment did make a reduction in their workforce today. The studio and SCEA remain committed to supporting PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale post launch, including developing the title’s forthcoming DLC releases in the coming months. The first character pack (including Kat from Gravity Rush and Emmett Graves from Starhawk) will be available for download on February 12 and will be free for the first two weeks. We’ll be sharing news of additional upcoming content soon.”

While the exact numbers aren't known, Mike noted in a response that it was around 20 people in total.

Keep in mind, SuperBot posted a few new jobs back in mid-December, which hint towards a sequel to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

It's also worth noting that both the PS3 and PS Vita version of the game were in the top 10 sales for the month of December.

Tom Cannon: Injustice and Playstation All-Stars were both very close to making it to this year's Evolution

Tom Cannon: Injustice and Playstation All-Stars were both very close to making it to this year's Evolution Evolution's co-founder, Tom Cannon recently did an interview over on GameSpot. He discusses changes to the tournaments format, various games that almost made it to this years event, how they plan to manage all eight games, Smash Bros, Mortal Kombat, Injustice and more.

Here's an excerpt.

Mortal Kombat was chosen, but not Injustice: Gods Among Us, which is scheduled to come out next year. Why this decision? Is it because the game hasn't even been released yet? Is there any chance it could make it's way into the lineup?

The April release date of Injustice is just two months away from EVO, which is a very short amount of time to draw out a game’s full potential. Injustice is one of the games which made the cut for the donation drive, so if fighting games fans want to see it in official tournament lineup they can work toward raising money for the Breast Cancer Research Fund on its behalf.

Although you've always had several Capcom titles, with so many fighting games out now, did that make it difficult at all to bring back SFxT again?

Not at all. Street Fighter X Tekken has had a very rocky start, but I think it showed potential in at the recent Capcom 25th Anniversary tournament. Capcom also has a great track record of steadily improving their fighting games with each subsequent revision and we expect Street Fighter X Tekken v2013 to be no exception.

Which game came the closest to making the final list?

Injustice and Playstation All-Stars were both very close to making it.

Check out the full interview over on GameSpot.

A Crash Bandicoot redesign could be the possible reason for his absence in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale fans have been asking for SuperBot to put the infamous Crash Bandicoot in their game. Omar Kendall had mentioned they were in negotiations, however we haven't heard much about it since.

What looks to be a redesign of Crash has been spotted on Vicarious Visions' Facebook page, and this could be the possible reason for the absence of Crash in PlayStation All-Stars.

The SuperBot Twitter had also mentioned that we would have more information on Crash making an appearance in the game, but unfortunately the conversation has since been deleted (you can see it here).

Sir Daniel's huge AP increase and disappearing hurt box glitches - PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

Thought to be one of the worst characters in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, it appears SuperBot equipped Sir Daniel Fortesque with a way to gain AP at an alarming rate. GreenSquiggly uploaded footage of two very interesting glitches that are simple to perform and give Sir Daniel quite the advantage in battle.

First up, when you perform Sir Daniel's green hand move in the air twice (causing a whiff animation for the 2nd one), this will cause his AP absorbing shield to glitch and projectiles will still provide Daniel with AP even after it's destroyed. It has been reported that there are instances where repeating the glitch will result in even more AP increase.

First PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale DLC free of charge, future content packs may be priced at $3

First PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale DLC free of charge, future content packs may be priced at $3 As it has been previously known for some time now, the first batch of DLC for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale containing Kat, Emmett and the Wipeout stage will be provided to players free of charge. According to an observant user on the NeoGAF forum, subsequent content packs may be priced at $3 USD.

Sony is currently holding an "Ultimate Match Up" online contest in which players can win instant prizes by participating. Included in the rules of this contest on the official site are the cash values for each prize. Interestingly enough, one of the prizes listed is a “PlayStation® All-Stars Battle Royale DLC Pack digital voucher" which has a value of $3.

This isn't a confirmation but it could be an indication of how much Sony's future DLC will cost for PSABR. If subsequent content packs include two characters and a stage like the Kat and Emmett pack, $3 seems like a completely reasonable price.

If Sony does in fact decide to begin charging for future PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale DLC, do you guys feel $3 per pack is an acceptable price? Leave your thoughts below.
