2012 North American Player of the Year for SSF4 AE v2012 and UMvC3 goes to Justin Wong, Filipino Champ and Chris G by Corner Pressure

2012 North American Player of the Year for SSF4 AE v2012 and UMvC3 goes to Justin Wong, Filipino Champ and Chris G by Corner Pressure Corner Pressure returns with their North American Player of the Year choices for 2012 in both Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. This year, the award in AE v2012 goes to EG|Justin Wong and in UMvC3 we have co-players of the year coL|Filipino Champ and AGE|NYChris G.

These were chose by Glenn, Timothy, Antonio and Dakota over at Corner Pressure. Below you can find a bit of the reasoning for their choices and be sure to read the full articles to the other Corner Pressure member's opinions.

2012 Super Street Fighter IV North American Player of the Year: Justin Wong.

Antonio’s take: It's difficult to disregard his complacency in the latter quarter of 2012, but Justin Wong is still my pick for AE2012 POTY. Early this year, up until after EVO, we saw both Justin and Ricky (with one cameo by Momochi at CEO) place top 2 multiple times starting with SCR 2011 -- Yes, I know this was in 2011, I'm not stupid. Arguably, Dieminion's successes in the latter half of 2012 could very well merit him this year's POTY, but you can't disregard Justin's dominance in the first half. As good as Dieminion is, he didn't dominate the second half of 2012 as much as Justin did in the first.

2012 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 North American co-Players of the Year: Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez and Christopher Gonzalez.

Timothy's take: It's becoming a trend with this site, but do not equate us to fanboys -- we're just stating facts. Chris "Genuis" Gonzalez is my pick for POY of UMvC3. If such a thing exists as "boring Marvel," then Gonzalez has made it a consistent art-form. His victories are stale, dominant, and predicable; exactly what a POY is. Pair a top-tier team (Morrigan, Vergil, and Dr. Doom) and a fantastic player and you get tournament victory after victory.

What many considered as one of the best top-8 EVO runs in Marvel was just the start of the dominant year that Chris G had. It goes from his winning streak at local tournament, "Big Two" to wins in big-time exhibitions (FT15 win over EVO champion Filipino Champ 15-10). It goes beyond that. He's so consistent that he's placed top-8 in nearly every major he's played (and over multiple games). All that was missing was victories in these majors. Until he started doing that too. Easy call for POY -- Chris G.

Who do you feel is should be awarded the player of the year in both AE v2012 and UMvC3 for 2012? Leave your choices and opinions in the comments below.

Yoshinori Ono hoping to increase amount of people in the fighting game community by 10% in 2013

Yoshinori Ono hoping to increase amount of people in the fighting game community by 10% in 2013 Yoshinori Ono revealed one of his goals for 2013 — to expand the fighting game community by 10%. He didn't elaborate on the metrics Capcom is using to gauge this, but in typical fashion, he sounded energized about the prospect.

Ono: Good morning 1st day of New Year! My objective is to increase people [in the fighting game] community by 10% this year. ;D

Capcom has already made some of their plans known for the fighting game community in 2013, as they recently hired two well respected members of the FGC, bringing Neidel "Haunts" Crisan and Peter "Combofiend" Rosas on board.

They also setup a deal with IPL (IGN Pro League) to host tournaments for their fighters, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition and Street Fighter X Tekken, but they could potentially add other titles as well.

As far as major releases/updates go, only Darkstalkers Resurrection (March 14) and the v2013 update to Street Fighter X Tekken (Jan. 29) are known at this time, but as it's just the first day of the year, there could be a lot more revealed in the near future.

What do you think Capcom should do to expand and support the community? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.

MarlinePie shows input nullification glitch for characters with flight and Spencer non-TAC infinite in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

BrokenTier recently uploaded a couple of quick Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tutorials by none other than BT|MarlinPie. First up, Marlin shows off how to perform an input nullification glitch using characters with fly commands. By inputting the unfly and pressing both L and S simultaneously, this causes the unfly animation to never occur and the character performs the L on the earliest frame possible.

After the jump you can check out a non-TAC infinite for Spencer. There is a bit of language NSFW used throughout the videos.

Sven: We understand the desire for more Marvel vs. Capcom, but altering requests won't make it happen any faster

Sven: We understand the desire for more Marvel vs. Capcom, but altering requests won't make it happen any faster Capcom staff members, Christian Svensson and Ryota Niitsuma, have stated a few times that they're aware of interest from fans in regards to creating more content/updates for Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Their responses have been consistent, though. While they appreciate the feedback, both individuals have said there's nothing new in the works at this time. Fans decided to change gears and ask for a Marvel vs. Capcom 4 instead, to see if that would elicit a different response.

ZenTea: We've all heard that the MvC3 series is done and that the team has left, Niitsuma is on to other projects (or currently w/o one). So, should be asking instead for Marvel vs. Capcom 4? You guys could keep the game largely the same, same graphics, ect., just improve the net code and add in 20 more characters to each side, 20 Capcom characters and 20 Marvel characters = 40 more characters.

Svensson: Guys, I understand the desire for more Marvel vs. Capcom in some form (expansions or new game). To set expectations though, changing the form of the request isn't going to make anything happen any faster.

Ignss: Please release Marvel vs. Capcom 4 on the world in 2013! Please, with UMvC3 engine and new characters new stages. Namco Bandai release a new Naruto game every 10 months, so you guys can do this too!

Svensson: Maybe I'm biased, I wouldn't compare a Naruto game of any form to an MvC game.

As for requested for new MvC titles, please see some of the other locked threads. When we have news to share, we'll share it.
