PR Balrog practicing every day over 8 hours a day in hopes of winning this year's EVO - feels confident against international players

PR Balrog practicing every day over 8 hours a day in hopes of winning this year's EVO - feels confident against international players Eduardo "PR Balrog" Perez has set his sights on winning this year's EVO title, he said in a recent interview with his sponsorship group, Evil Geniuses. Perez noted that's he's practicing every day, over 8 hours a day, in hopes of winning this year's EVO.

When asked about the deep talent pool of international competition, PR Balrog added that he feels confident against the overseas players, but said that Infiltration is very much still a concern.

The piece goes on to cover Eduardo's thoughts on the three major titles in the tournament scene, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken v2012, getting PR Balrog's opinion about each one and some of the past matches that happened at Winter Brawl 7. Here's a snip from the write up.

CoolGrayAJ: Your momentum right now is comparable to the momentum Justin had early in the year last year. Is there anything you’re afraid of moving forward?

PR Balrog: I’m not scared anymore. I’m trying my best to get that EVO title, and I’ll tell you right now – I’m going to be practicing every day, more than eight hours a day, and I’ll just keep going. Whether or not I win any more majors from here on out, my eyes are set on the EVO title.

CoolGrayAJ: What about against international competition? I mean not to take the steam out of you, but the international scene is still pretty deep.

PR Balrog: I feel like I’m the most confident out of anyone against international play, because I have a pretty good record against international players. Latif, Wolfkrone and I all have great histories against international play. I think right now, Infiltration is the one player I’m concerned about. Saying that though, I’ll be ready for him next time.

Updated: Filipino Champ and Chris Schmidt's Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tier list

Updated: New Tweets from Filipino Champ have been added into the story, mainly pertaining to the position of some characters on the list along with the his thoughts on winning a tournament with a low tier team.

On the FGTV Live stream recently, Ryan "coL|Filipino Champ" Ramirez and Chris Schmidt generated a new tier listing for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Since then, FChamp has posted the list over on his Twitter.

Additionally, when asked by James Chen about Dr. Doom's ranking on the list, Ryan divulged a bit more information as to why he received that placement on the list.

Chen: Also, do you count Dr. Doom so high because of his Assists? As a character, I think a lot of people shut him down.

Filipino Champ: Overall! He sucks at fighting but his support, TAC, infinites and assists makes him top 5.

Additionally, Filipino Champ has been Tweeting about the list giving insight on characters that are in the mid to low range.

About the tier list I didn't really bother placing the other characters from mid tier to low tier... cause they are gonna be irrelevant in the future.

Only top 20 matters Low tier only wins when the game is early ..... its all about the High tier - Top tier

Regardless how good you use a character if he is low tier you aint gonna win a tournament but you can get top 32 or top 16 on a good day

If you'd like to see how this tier list was built, you can check out the VOD from FGTV Live after the jump where Filipino Champ and Chris Schmidt discuss the process. To check out this video on demand, you need to be a subscriber to FGTV Live, but you'll also get full access to their complete archives and some other benefits as well.

BrokenTier's team tutorial featuring Viscant - Zero, Dr. Doom, Vergil

BrokenTier's team tutorial featuring Viscant - Zero, Dr. Doom, Vergil The guys over at BrokenTier have launched their new feature for their blog. This is a team tutorial which will have a breakdown of the pros and cons of a team, some match analysis and more.

Up first is Viscant, going over his team of Zero, Dr. Doom and Vergil where he gives a ton of great information on how the team works. Here is an excerpt from the matchup section.

Matchups:

This team is generally solid against other top tier with a couple of exceptions. Teleporters plus Strider really bother Zero at the start of a match. Vergil/Strider especially. Zero likes to be the bully and completely control the air and vajra makes Zero consider blocking in the air, blunting his momentum. Zero can cleanly punish a naked Vajra with crouch C or a jumping pizza cutter, but the threat of the point character attacking from behind is usually enough to stop Zero from trying. And once Zero has committed to blocking, teleporting to coax him into missing a block is smart strategy. Add all that up and a Vergil willing to liberally helm breaker + Strider is dangerous. It’s not a complete counter match because this kind of strategy will generally force the other side to burn x-factor, giving you an advantage in the endgame. With x-factor out of the way, Doom/Vergil can adopt a zoning gameplan and play slowly with the knowledge that Strider without x-factor left is not a threat to a loaded Vergil.

Another problematic matchup is against Morridoom. Zero has to land something in the opening salvo otherwise this match is simply not going to go well for him. Morrigan can overpower Zero in a projectile war and calling out assists during astral vision is not a good idea. You can give yourself a second chance by tagging Vergil into a fireball outside of astral vision but the problem is that your team order becomes Vergil/Doom/Zero and that’s risky. If Vergil doesn’t get the job done and dies to Morrigan, you’re basically finished. Zero can use Sougenmu and a double level 3 buster to harass Morrigan during astral vision but this is not really going to work. You can use the double busters to make her block or to hit her Doom but eventually she’s going to take control back. It’s less of a strategy and more of a last gasp.

Head over to BrokenTier's blog to get the full team tutorial part 1 goes over the pros, cons and matchups. While part 2 is match analysis from tournaments in the past.

Note that this do have a quite a bit of text but they are extremely informational.
