Sven: Giving Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's source code to another team is risky, content could not mesh with original

Sven: Giving Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's source code to another team is risky, content could not mesh with original Over on the Ask Capcom forums, there are still a lot of questions being asked about Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and possible additions to the game. User LemonLure in particular asked about the game's source code, which would allow another team to work on the game.

LemonLure: Lately, there has been a lot of "can you add more to UMvC3" threads and the response has been a consistent "the original team has been disbanded, so we can't do anything." from the Ask Capcom staff, but something about that response seems weird to me.

Isn't this what source code is for? So that a team that isn't the original can work on updating a project while the original team is unavailable? So, basically, I'm getting the feeling that there are problems with UMvC3's source code, and that these problems are keeping it from getting an updated re-release.

Sven: No, you are correct, souce code could be taken elsewhere, however there is risk when you've not got original battle director, character designers, animators doing the actual work and having the new content not "mesh" with the original.

This is especially true of a fighting game where balance is a crucial element of the whole.

In short, programmers can be swappable in such a case (which is why ports, which are pretty much only technical challenges, can be done fairly well by folks who weren't the original team). Designers and to some degree artists/animators are far less replaceable in a willy/nilly fashion.

ShadyK discusses Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tier list, competitive drive and the fighting game scene

ShadyK discusses Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tier list, competitive drive and the fighting game scene ShadyK of FGTV|Live made a new post over at the FGTV|Live blog, where he details his reasons for not showing up to many major tournaments, his views of the fighting community and what he wants to see happen in the future for it, as well as his thoughts on a Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tier list.

This blog post was sparked by ShadyK's wish to respond to questions he gets asked a lot by their stream viewers, and he decided to make a blog post about it explaining his opinions within. To start you off, here's a quote from ShadyK explaining why he doesn't turn up to many major tournaments.

I love UMvC3. It’s pretty much my favorite game of all time. But, I’m always asked why I don’t travel and enter major tournaments often and my answer to that is, basically, my competitive drive to win isn’t what it was ten years ago (I may look young, but I am actually pretty old). It doesn’t mean I don’t like playing it. I LOVE playing it. I just like spectating it and commentating it even more. I consider myself a student of the game and pride myself in knowing a lot about it. While it’d be nice to be able to consistently place at tournaments, winning just isn’t my strong suit. That being said, I’m constantly thinking of UMvC3; strategies, content, events, and how to get our local scene players better at it.

Doctor Doom

- When calling Doom with Plasma Beam assist, he comes in where the point character is standing instead of behind the point character. This is to make it easier to “Happy Birthday” and punish Doom in general.

- Remove hard knockdown from j.S Foot Dive. Speed remains the same. The hitstun will be similar to that of F+H Foot Dive and will reward players who can convert off of those types of foot dives.

- j. S Foot Dive no longer has a vertical hitbox around Doom’s head.

- Tracking of Hidden Missiles assist adjusted. Missiles 2-6 only track where Missile 1 was tracking to prevent “combo breaking”. Makes Hidden Missiles assist easier to evade in general. Normal Hidden Missiles remains unchanged.

She-Hulk, Felicia and M.O.D.O.K. non-TAC infinites discovered, opponent must hold forward during - Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

YouTube user スミス ミスミ recently uploaded some interesting Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 footage showing off a few non-TAC infinites. These infinites all utilize basic forward moving loops using She-Hulk, Felicia and M.O.D.O.K.

The peculiar thing about these infinites is that, although they look simple to perform, these can only be hit if the opponent is holding forward. We tested them ourselves and it seems they fall out of the combo as soon as the opponent stops holding the forward input.

Considering these may not be practical in a regular match, it does raise some curiosity. The fact that certain combos can be affected by the opponent holding a direction could potentially lead to some new combo possibilities.

Filipino Champ explains why he's stuck with Phoenix in UMvC3 recently, his plans to win this year's EVO tournament and more

Filipino Champ explains why he's stuck with Phoenix in UMvC3 recently, his plans to win this year's EVO tournament and more We had the chance to catch up with compLexity Gaming's Ryan "Filipino Champ" Ramirez recently for a round of questions. Ramirez is often regarded as one of the community's top Marvel players.

In this piece, Ryan discusses why he's been picking Phoenix in tournament matches, and if he plans on going with Dormammu again any time soon. He also covers if Morrigan is overpowered in UMvC3, if he'll start playing Street Fighter 4 again once the update is made available, and what his training regimen is going to be for this year's EVO tournament.

This is an enlightening interview with one of the community's most well known players. Here's a short blurb to get you going, but hit the jump to check out the entire piece.

EventHubs: You've been using Phoenix frequently in UMvC3 tournaments, is there a reason you're not picking Dormammu as often? In the future, are you going to stick with Phoenix, or do you think you'll eventually go away from her?

Filipino Champ: I'm very stubborn and competitive, which is my downfall the majority of the time. I still pick Phoenix even when I know it's not a match up that favors her.

At EVO I'll play Dormammu 99% [of the time], I promise!
