Sven has had influence over fighting game rosters, will likely defer to team in future - Disney has not been a factor in Marvel discussions

Sven has had influence over fighting game rosters, will likely defer to team in future - Disney has not been a factor in Marvel discussions Capcom USA Vice President, Christian Svensson, has had some say/influence over past fighting game rosters, he said via the Capcom Forums. He noted that as the head of North American sales, which is the largest market for fighting games, while he's had input in the past — in the future — he'll likely defer to the strategic fighting group, which consists of Matt Dahlgren, Derek Neal, Neidel "Haunts" Crisan and Peter "Combofiend" Rosas.

Also, he said that by and large Capcom has dealt with the same great people at Marvel, in regards to their fighting games, and Disney hasn't been a factor in any conversations. This was in response to concerns from the community that Disney was having some kind of negative impact on potential updates to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Bs957: Sven, do you have a say in choosing characters for fighting games?

Svensson: As the head of North American sales (the largest fighting market) I have had influence/say in past titles but for the future I will probably defer to our strategic fighting group which consists of Matt Dahlgren, Derek Neal, Neidel Crisan and Peter Rosas when it comes to our recommendations.

That said, at the end of the day the team makes the final calls.

Master Hao: Regarding UMvC3 updates... does Disney have a say in updates and what not? And are they easy to work with at all?

I get this suspicious feeling Disney is being a bummer about their half of the game...

Svensson: By and large we've dealt with all of the same great people at Marvel we always have. Disney has not been a factor in any conversations.

Dieminion: Japan is still way past the American level of play in SSF4 AE v2012 - wants to form own Topanga League

Dieminion: Japan is still way past the American level of play in SSF4 AE v2012 - wants to form own Topanga League BrokenTier's Kevin "Dieminion" Landon sat down with Evil Geniuses' CoolGrayAJ for a thought provoking interview. Dieminion covers his performance at the SoCal Regionals 2013 tournament, mentioning how momentum affects matches, in that you can have a solid track record against a player, but still lose in a set.

He also discusses what it was like playing against EG|PR Balrog's Fei Long, where he lost 2-1 and was eliminated for the tournament, and how he thinks he'll have a better feel for him next time they play.

At the latter part of the piece, Dieminion says that he feels the Japanese player base are still far ahead of Americans in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012.

CoolGrayAJ: Regarding international competition, Infiltration’s been winning everything, but do you think people should be more concerned about a single player, or an entire country?

Di3mini0n: Japan is still way past the American level of play. Being in Japan recently really woke me up to how behind we really are. On a daily basis, you’ll see Daigo playing against Kazunoko, Mago, Nemo, Nekojita, and countless other players that you will have never even heard of. If you think for a second that our challenge right now is Infiltration, Daigo or any other big name foreign player, you’re wrong. The real challenge is if and when the rest of these Japanese players come over to play.

Japan is no stranger to taking over EVO Top 8, and people need to be aware of this. Just because Daigo was the only Japanese player in EVO Top 8 last year, you need to pay attention to what happened to the rest of the Japanese players. Kindevu, Haitani, Fuudo and Dogura all placed 9th, so if you really think about it, we were four matches away from having 5 Japanese players place Top 8 at last year’s EVO.

I don’t want to sound like a defeatist, but really ask yourself, do you play 6-8 hours a day against the best players of your country?

Dieminion adds that he's looking at starting something akin to the Topanga League for the east coast, and then he can hopefully branch in out into the entire country, but this idea is still in the concept stage.

This is a really strong interview, with a lot of interesting information from one of the FGC's top players. It's definitely worth your time to read through it.

PC Street Fighter X Tekken DLC character news likely by the end of the week, CvS2 port a couple months off

PC Street Fighter X Tekken DLC character news likely by the end of the week, CvS2 port a couple months off PC gamers hoping for news about the DLC characters in Street Fighter X Tekken shouldn't have to wait long, as Capcom's Christian Svensson said news is likely to be out before the end of the week, and they'd have some good things to share about the price point they'd be offered at, too.

He also delved into the PS2 re-release of Capcom vs SNK 2 saying it's a couple of months off, but it's cleared some channels in regards to emulation testing, and the digital sales team is working on locking down a date.

Here's a transcript of notable details from the live Ask Capcom session that was held today, hit the jump to check out the video archive.

• Svensson apologized for the very long delay on the PC Street Fighter X Tekken patches. He said the character DLC update should be out by the end of this week, and a significant short term price point will be available as well. Details will be announced soon.

• The digital survey was "hugely successful from my stand point," Svensson said. There were over 64,000 respondents in six days. There was some very good feedback that was actionable, but he didn't elaborate on what this pertains to. Results from the survey are being shared pretty broadly with senior management and are being factored in to product planning for the digital market.

• When asked about updates to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 — which came up constantly throughout the session — the guys said, "It kills us to not be able to talk about some things. Trust me, we know you want to know answers, and there's things we'd love to tell you, but... " they have rules they have to abide by. They didn't confirm anything one way or the other, they're simply saying that they wish they could share details, but they cannot because of the rules in place.

• The Capcom vs. SNK 2 re-release of the PS2 version is a couple of months off, as the digital sales team is trying to secure a date. The good news is it has passed a few channels at SCEA in the emulation testing. It's in the process of being worked on for North and South America. This is a straight port of the PS2 version.

Throw option-selects explored in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with the use of plinking

GottnoSkill has created an interesting video showing some technology for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 using plinking to do various throw option-selects.

Plinking from the Heavy Attack button to a lesser strength button means it will cancel the Heavy Attack to a dash, however since throws are a one frame move you are getting the throw to activate as you're dashing forward. Check out the video below for more information and quite a few demonstrations.
