In Depth: Justin Wong and the numbers – Is Marvel dead? Find out in this final installment of EventHubs's three-part series

Is Marvel dead? Well, that depends on who you ask. We've already spoken with former Evolution champion Filipino Champ and MMG|ApologyMan—another top MvC3 player—to get some different perspectives on the hot issue.

However, I wanted to dig a bit deeper. That means talking to a tournament organizer to grab the unbiased numbers to get a different perspective to compare.

Even then, a tournament organizer is one interesting perspective, but what if I could bring in someone that has been at the top of the series for years? What if I could ask the greatest player in Marvel's long legacy?

EG|Justin Wong needs very little introduction in the world of Marvel vs. Capcom, but just in case you wanted any justification for his being on top, then consider that Wong has been the Evolution champion for a Marvel vs. Capcom title no less than 7 times.

Will Wong hammer the final nail into Marvel's coffin, or will he tear the casket open and to reveal a joystick and a TV ready to go?

Read below to join me for the final part of EventHubs's investigation.

MarlinPie's Marvel comebacks, Valmaster's dance with Dogura, Infiltration's Decapre and... Snake Eyez; Highlights from this weekend's big tournaments

The Fighting Game Community had a very full weekend with two major tournaments, Winter Brawl 9 and Sonic Boom.

From international mayhem to coastal rivalries, things didn't let up for even a moment all weekend long, and we have some of our favorite moments from both tournaments to share with you.

First up, BT|MarlinPie and his amazing performance at Winter Brawl's Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 tourney.

Though he would end up getting second to PAG|Cosmos, MarlinPie had some great moments on his road to grand finals. The first one is right here, where he brilliantly resets J Rosa's Strider to close out the match.

Pie wasn't done with his flashy comebacks however, as he would meet KPB|Randomfiend and handle things in a similar fashion, this time with his Amaterasu.

UMvC3 casuals: Nemo (Nova, Dr. Strange, Spencer) vs. Roach King (Magneto, Phoenix, Dr. Doom) long set

I'm going to try very hard to not spoil the outcome of this hour-long Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 casuals session between BE|Nemo and FR|Roach King.

Even though one of the above players was named the #13 UMvC3 player in the world for 2014 through the consensus of the entire editorial team here on EventHubs.

Recently Roach King visited Tokyo for a vacation. And like any self-respecting competitive Marvel player who visits Tokyo on vacation or otherwise, Roach King contacted the good folks over at team Black Eye to see if he could visit the Black Eye game room.

BE|Nemo was able to welcome Roach King into their humble game room. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Watch the video archive of the long casuals set below, to find out how things went.

In Depth: Is Marvel dead? Part 2: ApologyMan — EventHubs investigates and speaks with pro players to finally answer the question

Is Marvel dead? We already spoke with Filipino Champ in Part 1 to get his thoughts on the matter. Sure, the constant posts from stream monsters and Capcom losing the right to even sell the game certainly suggest so, but Champ’s response advises that you may not want to hold the funeral anytime soon.

But one perspective isn't enough, even if it's from a top player. Next up is Vineeth “MMG|ApologyMan” Meka. His unique team of Firebrand, Dr. Doom, and Super-Skrull netted him 1st place at SoCal Regionals in 2014, 13th at Evolution 2014, and second place at Curleh Mustache Norcal.

Since MMG|ApologyMan runs in the same, high level tournament circles as Filipino Champ, I was curious to find out how different his thoughts could be.

His answer makes a very intelligent comparison between a certain version of Street Fighter 4 and Marvel vs. Capcom.

Read below to check out his thoughts and my reflection.

In Depth: Is Marvel dead? EventHubs investigates and speaks with pro players to finally answer the question – Pt.1: Filipino Champ

“Marvel is dead!” You can't go to a tournament stream chat without seeing someone make the claim. Even beyond that, stories of desolate brackets from weekly tournaments get repeated in comments and on Reddit. Furthermore, with Capcom not capable of selling new copies of titles featuring Marvel characters, the situation looks even more bleak. Everything on the internet seems to be pointing towards the conclusion that the most recognized versus series in fighting games has finally met its maker, but is that really the case?

I've decided to talk to some of the highest level players in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and check the facts to find out for myself. Hopefully, the answers I received will shed some light on the future of the series.

Our first answer comes from Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez. Though he needs little introduction, the former Evolution champion has remained consistently one of the world's best in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Last year, he made number 3 in EventHubs's Top 30 UmvC3 players of 2014.

Check out our interview with him below and my thoughts concerning it.

Apex 2015 results feat. Mango, PPMD, Armada, Mew2King, Hungrybox, Leffen, Wobbles, Ice, Axe, aMSa, PewPewU, Lucky and more

Update: This story has been updated with final results.

While EVO is traditionally the biggest fighting game tournament for any given title, the reality is not so for the Super Smash Bros. series. While EVO is certainly huge, the top dog in Smash town is Apex, and it's finally time for 2015's iteration, which also happens to have the honor of being the biggest Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament of all time.

While Smash is certainly the main event, there are also other games to enjoy at Apex 2015. The game lineup focuses on Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. 64, but also includes Ultra Street Fighter 4, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Guilty Gear Xrd and Killer Instinct.

You can expect basically any and all top smashers to be in attendance, including C9|Mango, EG|PPMD, Alliance|Armada, Mew2King, Liquid|Hungrybox, Leffen, Wobbles, VGBC|Hax, MOR|Axe, VGBC|aMSa and many, many more.

Outside of Smash, there's a healthy amount of big names as well, such as Snake Eyez, EG|Ricky Ortiz, CTRL|RayRay, EG|K-Brad, SteamCo|Sanford Kelly, SteamCo|IFC Yipes, MOR|Rico Suave, BIFU|Insaynne, Perfect Legend, fLoE, CTRL|Unknown, TA|Moons, UVG|Noel Brown and more.

Streaming duties are being handled by VGBootCamp, Team Spooky and Bifuteki.

The Ultimate UMVC comeback compilation featuring Marlin Pie, Nemo, Flocker, Moons, Angelic, Insaynne, Flux, Unkn0wn and Alukard

Never. Say. Die.

That's an attitude you have to have if you want to make a name for yourself in the world of the FGC. When all odds are stacked against you, don't look at it as a death certificate, but rather an opportunity for greatness.

This is the final installment in Xuses' Marvel comeback series, and they're going out with a bang.

Perhaps the the most exciting of these comebacks are the ones that are done with characters that are not regarded as top tier. Seeing an Amaterasu or a Shuma Gorath take out a Doom/Vergil team is priceless.

There's plenty of video to watch, so you'd better get to it.

Hit the jump to check them out!
