IMO Tekken and Soul Calibur are way better than DoA.
I would agree with VF being #1, but that game is way too technical to be approached by anyone under the most hardcore fighters.

But this isn't a fighting game. Sure it's the DOA characters used, but this has nothing to do with DOA5, the legitimate fighter, and shouldn't be viewed as such.

FYI, fighting game characters have appeared in non-fighting games and their original series' aren't seen in a negative light, so why should the DOA cast be any different?

I'm new to DOA, started liking it ever since 5 came along without the horrible barbie models they had before. Correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't think the Xtreme games are fighting games though. ._.

Nope. The DOA Xtreme series started as a Volleyball game with DOA's girls. Then on the second one it was just a vacation style with more activities like Jetsky and beach games. So yeah, it was never meant to be part of the fighting series, which begs the question to why this is here on EH to begin with!

That is a ridiculous comparison. Mario is predominantly a platformer. Granted, the character has appeared in all sorts of game types, but obviously we keep our coverage to Smash-related pieces.

Dead or Alive is first and foremost a fighting game franchise. Though the Xtreme series isn't a fighting game, it is directly related to the fighting game series.

When Project X Zone was announced, we did light coverage on it because it has fan-favorite characters from fighting games in it, even though the game itself is a tactical RPG.

This is the same situation. Obviously, you won't be seeing volley ball replays here on EH or anything like that down the road, but an initial announcement post doesn't hurt, especially considering that some of our readers are fans of the DoA characters.

As much as I missed this and wanted it back, they're already half assing it. Why not include everyone? And Vita? Ew. The PS4 version better not suffer at all because of there being a Vita Version. Actually that's a misconception VF can be enjoyed at all levels of play but it offers lots of depth for players who do want to take there skills to the next level. VF5FS was very accessible for example. Most VF characters offer a an easy PPPK combo and spacing is very important in VF.

I've been playing VF games for years it's my favorite fighting game franchise. The reason the game isn't so successful for one is 3D fighting games are in a decline and Sega does a piss poor job at promoting that franchise outside of japan. I love VF but even the most popular 3D fighting game franchises are in a decline.

DOAX was good, DOAX2 was a step backwards in terms of game play. Couldn't even VS another human player unless it was online. They need to add coop mode so you can team up against computer.
I'd imagine the ninja Gaiden girls probably won't make it in.

Ah DOAX never did bother with the second one it just seemed they focused less on the volley ball and more on rubbish less developed mini games. As for the first one I played it and really enjoyed the volleyball but it got old fast and I did not care for the sim aspect.

I think releasing this as a stand alone retail game in this day and age is a mistake. This should be f2p, and multiplatform (including steam and mobile). Even better, this should be part of DOA6 or at least be directly tied to it (sharing of items acquired etc.).

Regardless, if Rachel doesn't make the cut, this whole idea is IMO, worthless :P

Are you daft? Being "Asia Only" means nothing in this day and age. If you have a credit card & access to the internet you can get the game no problem. The menu/language will probably be in Japanese and Chinese but no big deal. Anyway, I bet it will be released in the West a year after it comes out in Asia.y

I played the 1st 2 DOA extreme games. It got old REALLY fast. Even the volleyball portion is not as good as the gamecube games called beach spikers. Straight trash...It's only meant for perverts.

DoA X1 was the only volleyball game I liked. The volleyball was pretty cool for what it was, I've had some intense matches with the CPU and my cousin. Custom music in the background, while deflecting spikes was very intense. In the other DoAs, it was more about "eye" candy, which took away the competitive aspect of the volleyballing. In which I would rather just play a hentai game zZzZzZz. Here's hoping this new DoAX improves on the competitive mini-games, and adds more epic competitiveness.
