Guilty Gear Xrd set for release in North America this fall, still only for PS3 and PS4, will be available to play at E3

Posted by Nicholas 'MajinTenshinhan' Taylor • May 29, 2014 at 7:28 a.m. PDT

The latest entry, which has been a long-time coming, in the long-lived Guilty Gear series has now been officially confirmed to be released in North America for PS3 and PS4 this fall. At the moment, no announcement has been made for a release in other non-Japan territories, such as Europe.

The localization is being handled by Aksys, who regularly bring over niche Japanese titles to foreign territories, and they promise that the latest title from ArcSys (perhaps their similarity in company names is part of the reason they get along so well) will retain signature systems from earlier Guilty Gear titles, such as Roman Cancels, but that many of them have been "significantly expanded and improved."

Whether the console version will include additional content beyond what is already out in Arcades in Japan also remains currently unclear.

Thanks to Mai Shi Long Eezlong and originalhuman for sending this in.

Given the changes to XBL and the recent price drop of the Xbone, I wouldn't be surprised if Xrd makes it onto a MS console for a NA release. Seems MS is competing against Sony much more aggressivey and trying to make up for lost ground at the beginning of this gen. Getting Xrd on 360 and/or Xbone would continue this recent trend of MS refusing Sony to keep any egde over them.

How has ArcSys proved this point? BBCP was a PS3 exclusive already. None of what you said changes the fact that ArcSys makes less money on the Xbox platform due to the majority of their fan-base residing in the Playstation brand.

#24
TheTHCGamer said on May 29, 2014 at 9:30 a.m.

There's no server it'll be based on your connection as usual with tour opponent. The better online experience will most likely be based on which console has the larger online community for XRD. To many people play PS3 consoles on a wireless connection and I don't know of that's the same case for the PS4.

I fully expect DLC character packs, something along the lines of:

Japanese Fighter Pack - Baiken and Anji
Gears Pack - Testament and Dizzy
GGX Veteran Pack - Johnny and Jam
GGXX Veteran Pack - Bridget and Zappa

Then possibly,

Boss Pack - Kliff and Justice
Slash Pack - Order Sol and A.B.A

Sadly not holding my breath on the last 2, though I'd really like to see A.B.A make it in somewhere down the line... and if they don't decide to do character packs then I expect we'll see a lot of them in GGXrd #Re-reload or whatever bizzare subtitle they end up sticking on it.

got it thanks, now the question is which console is going to have more playes? Maybe is best to wait a little just like Sanox said ("we will know soon") I want to see the reaction of the community. The game looks awesome and I want to have the best experience possible.

#37
umad said on May 29, 2014 at 10:35 a.m.

for MS a niche title like GG isn't going to swing a lot of people to MS. BB:CP didnt even get release on the 360.

#38
Abxes said on May 29, 2014 at 10:42 a.m.

But the only ArcSys game that didn't got a 360 version was BBCP because of technical problems (the game couldn't fit in a DVD). Persona 4U is getting a 360 version in America when it was initially only on PS3. It's true that they probably make less money on the Xbox, but even a little profit is better than no profit at all.

Rizhall said on May 29, 2014 at 10:49 a.m.

Good yeah great no, it's no Capcom netcode and one of the reasons the online dies so fast, the netcode could be done better.

#43
ShinzoBishamon said on May 29, 2014 at 11:01 a.m.

Are you kidding me? Arcsys games have amazing netcode. Have you ever played P4U or BB before. Its equal to that of TTT2

#44
Kairosbland said on May 29, 2014 at 11:25 a.m.

That's because Atlus is handling P4AU on Consoles, not Arcsys

The Xbox is crap in Japan, so they don't bother with Xbox games there. Atlus knows the fanbase is on both consoles outside of Japan, so they put it on Xbox as well.

Arcsys, on the other hand, doesn't really care the fanbase on Xbox and only cares about what's bringing them money. because they're a not so rich company. A majority of purchases world wide are on Sony consoles, so they only do ports on Sony consoles.

Unless Microsoft handles the port costs (unlikely) it's probably not gonna be on XBO

#45
umad said on May 29, 2014 at 12:13 p.m.

the game couldnt fit onto a DVD? fighting games arent the most taxing genre. also for it to go on the 360/xbox1 it'll depend if that profit is worth the time.

#48
Galletano said on May 29, 2014 at 12:29 p.m.

If someone likes anime fighters so much they should get a sony console, cause those consoles are save bet in releasing anime games. Its bad news that the Xbox doesn't get the same treatment, but it's just the way it is. Those games are made in japan for mostly a Japanese audience.

#49
DangerousBacon said on May 29, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.

Skip this version and wait for the update in about half a year. I still think the game is godlike though.

#50
Abxes said on May 29, 2014 at 12:35 p.m.

That's why I said profit and not sales. Profit is by definition worth it.

Also, regarding BBCP, it is a special kind of fighting game which is very story driven. The whole problem wasn', I suspect, with the game itself, but with the story mode content. But Im only suspecting that and I could be wrong, at the end of the day, the only certain thing is that the game couldn't fit in the DVD disc.

So you know Im not making stuff up, here's the link to the news when eventhubs reported it. http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2014/ma...

As I said, true, probably ArcSys games sell less on Xbox, but they're still profitable since those sales, even if inferior are still enough to make a profit. If told you that, after considering production costs, you would gain 200 selling your game on PlayStation but only 50 on Xbox you would still release both versions if you could because 250 is better than 200.

I have the feeling that BBCP wasn't released on 360 because it would have been an inferior version and that would have hurted sales even more, making it too much of a risk. But if you are able to release equal versions on multiple systems there is really no reason to not do it. Unless Sony is handing you money for the exclusive.

After all, this is a bussiness. If something makes you gain more money, you do it.

#51
Kairosbland said on May 29, 2014 at 12:49 p.m.

That's really not much of an excuse. They've powered down the res on previous BB games before on Xbox and that's literally Mori just making up something that wasn't "We don't think it'd be all that profitable." Remember, back when the game was first announced for PS3, Mori and Aksys literally just bounced the question back and forth between each other

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/06/12/...

#52
Kairosbland said on May 29, 2014 at 12:52 p.m.

Also worth noting; Way back in CT, it was originally only a PS3 game. And then shortly before the NA announcement, it was announced it'd be released on both PS3 and 360. This is possibly due to Aksys talking them into making a 360 version as well.

Mori's "Ask Aksys" could very well mean Aksys doesnt' see much point in a 360 version either.

This will be my first GG,in a competitive sense, so I'll probably give it a try anyway. I just hope they add Jam before console release. Doubt it though.

#57
Abxes said on May 29, 2014 at 1:38 p.m.

Who knows. The thing is that maybe this time the quality drop was too much. Or maybe when they first asked they were still trying to make it work on 360 and didn't want to confirm or deny it. All Im saying is that there is profit in Xbox they'll do it. Besides, GG is a different thing from BlazBlue which is even more niche. Im not saying it will happen, but this might turn out like the first BlazBlue.

#58
Gorehound said on May 29, 2014 at 1:55 p.m.

An XBO release is a good possibility since Japan is getting the XBO on Sept. 4 which means companies have now gotten the XBO dev kit.

Even Mori was unsure about the XBO because they haven't gotten any info on a release date for Japan or a dev kit back then. Porting games between PS4 and XBO should be pretty easy now compared to the nightmare of porting games between PS3 and 360. Especially since this game in running on the Unreal Engine 3 which makes it easier to port for MS systems including PC.

We have to wait till an official announcement at E3 to find out more about the NA release.

You guys can keep this game I don't care,if they don't put Jam and Dizzy for the console release it's gonna be the worst GG so far,and the gameplay doesn't help either, best graphics so far, worst gameplay mechanics so far. Arcsys needs to step it up before release.

I don't know, I like the reboot idea and the graphics are amazing.
but judging by the footage from Japan, I don't think this game will be big.
Its a Arc game, people don't like old GGs won't like this one IMO.
(not hating, I love anime fighters as well)
