Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist now available on Machinima, watch all 12 episodes at your leisure

Posted by Nicholas 'MajinTenshinhan' Taylor • May 23, 2014 at 8:59 a.m. PDT

It's been a long wait, but it's finally here. Who would've thought, a few years ago when it first appeared, that one really cool YouTube video would spawn a whole miniseries chronicling the journey of Ryu and Ken? Not this writer, at least.

But the time is here, and all episodes are now available. Hit the jump to check out the official livestream showing all of the episodes in a row, as well as a link to where you can watch them in your own time, as you please.

If you can't watch the live stream right now, don't worry - all episodes will be available as well over at Machinima's YouTube channel. Start with the prologue, Episode 0, below.

Watched episode 0 and the first ep. I'm surprised that it looks really well done and well acted. Definitely will keep watching, and hope that it doesn't go south like the MK series did, which peaked at the excellent ep 3 (Johnny Cage).

The fight choreography also looks great, but it's a shame that they had to lame it up by having them say "hadouken" "tatsu" etc. I get that they are trying to tie it to the game, but any SF fans that watch it will understand what they are seeing, and any that aren't fans already that stumble on to the series, well they will just think its silly.

Glad I can watch all 12 episodes at once. Much more like a movie experience. Hated to wait every week for webseries to release an episode like the mortal kombat case.

king_e_dawg said on May 23, 2014 at 10:12 a.m.

Wow.

I'm a few episodes in and I'm amazed at how good this is. It has one or two issues (mostly budget-related and trying a bit too hard to be faithful to the game within a more realistic story), but everything else is surprisingly well-done. The second episode (third if you count 00) gave me chills.

I watched everything and I am amazed at the standard of story telling, action sequences and attention this series has been treated. This is certainly a hard act to follow, the greatest production of a Street Fighter film there has ever been. It's a 10/10 from me, I couldn't have been any happier.

Up to episode 4 so far and this is absolutely awesome! It's better than Mortal Kombat Legacy (which was pretty decent). I LOVE the cameo in ep. 4!

Ken's acting can be a little stiff, but that's partly due to the dialogue. Still, this series is extremely good! Gonna finish watching tonight!

They better release this on Blu-ray too! I'll buy that immediately.

Doopliss said on May 23, 2014 at 12:57 p.m.

If you look at Dan's neutral stance in SFIV, it seems he remembers the hadoken kata from episode 3 slightly wrong. Gotta love small references like that.

Just watched up to episode 4. Fantastic work! Congrats to the crew that worked on this. This is far more than what I was expecting. The acting, writing, and score are all well done.

I'm waiting to get home to watch the rest on a proper screen. I didn't know that this was episodic, I was expecting a 10-15 min short, not an entire season. This is a really nice surprise! It seems alot of love and effort went into this. Grats again and thanks for this!

Just finished watching. Holy cow, this series is phenomenal! I absolutely LOVED it!

Great writing with humor, drama and action!
Tons of fan-service and homages!
Insane attention to detail!
Mostly great acting!
Amazing fighting choreography!

The way they tied in so many elements from the game into a larger and deeper story was amazing.

They should definitely do a season 2 for Assassin's fist and then do a series for the world's strongest woman!

#45
SigmaX17 said on May 23, 2014 at 3:06 p.m.

The whole thing was awesome. Waiting for Season 2. But who will they focus on? Chun Li maybe, or keep going with Ken and Ryu?

#46
AugustAPC said on May 23, 2014 at 3:09 p.m.

I think they need to finish up with Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma before they move on to other characters. Show Ryu's struggle with the Satsu No Hado, Ken moving back to America and Gouken and Akuma's final battle. This series is titled "Assassin's Fist", so if they do a season 2, it will still be focused on the shotos.
Spin-off series would be awesome. "Street Fighter: The World's Strongest Woman" would make for a nice Chun-Li based series :D

#55
Morrellium_84 said on May 23, 2014 at 5:34 p.m.

Great work, finally the live action film street fighter deserves. It's a little rough around the edges but there is no doubt this had been made by people who know and love street fighter. The fact that they seemlessly integrated moves from the game (not just special moves, normals, overheads the lot) into the fight sequences is worth a look alone. On top of that they told an interesting story which delves deeply into the backstory of characters we all know and love. Roll on season 2! "Who the hell is Dan?"

The love that these guys put into this is so evident. They must have worked their asses off to get everything to look so authentic as far as their costumes and choreography goes. The story was so well told, too, seamlessly transitioning between past and present.

I sincerely hope this gets a bluray release. I want to own this series.

watched the entire thing and i have to say, this has been THEE best SF movie i've seen to date. they captured the SF spirit in its true form. This should've been at the movie theaters. at least a 3 day showing. i would've definitely payed to see it. it would've helped the producers and actors (money wise) to make another film. From a 0-10 rating, i give Assassins fist a 9.5!!! why not 10? cuz Akuma isnt that ugly "Tu Tum Tisss" (drum roll) lol

#66
tktktk43 said on May 23, 2014 at 8:34 p.m.

Why are people not happy with Ken's wig? I think it looks authentic and great. My initial hopes and expectations were high for the series. Then I saw the trailer and it didn't meet my expectations. After watching it, I think it's good. Much better than any Street Fighter films released in the past. I like the authenticity of the series but the acting, at times, felt dry and inconsistent. I rate this 3.5/5, it's worth the watch for die hard Street fighter fans. It's an upgrade from fan-made but the budget obviously hindered the special effects and doable scenes. I would love series 2 or perhaps a full budget film with Hollywood FX. Keep up the good work.

#67
hakan_mania said on May 23, 2014 at 9:02 p.m.

hotpinkfighter said on May 23, 2014 at 10:26 p.m.

Better than the Van-Damme disaster but they still got some stuff wrong. Ken's rolling throw is supposed to be longer than Ryu's and when they get knocked down, they don't get up like they do in the game. Street Fighter should stay animated. Please and thank you. The guys that made SF2 The Animated Movie should have done one for Alpha series, SF3 series and SF4 series as well. :)

HyperCombinationFinish said on May 24, 2014 at 4:57 a.m.

Overall I liked it. Honestly I could do without them saying the move name when they do a Hadouken or Shoryuken, but it is true to the franchise so I don't mind it that much. I'm really excited to see Ryu and Ken get out there into the world and hopefully come into contact with more of the Street Fighter cast. They could go so many different routes and all of them could be cool. If Ryu travels back to America with Ken, we could potentially see Guile, Rufus or even some of the Mad Gear crew. If they stay in Japan, we could potentially see Sakura or Dan. They could go way out there into left field and we could see them travel to South America and fight Blanka or even El Fuerte. Great setup so far. Just can't wait for more!

#77
HyperCombinationFinish said on May 24, 2014 at 5:02 a.m.

Just finished the whole thing. It was awesome!

The little references, the really small things - that I must not mention here, so I don't spoil the fun -, the heart, the acting... Man! Talk about something beautifully done.

Special effects were fine, and actually better than I was expecting. And, well, Mahvel movies may have Stan Lee, but...

By the way, the last episode was touching. Akira Koieyama really shined there.

SEASON 2, IKUZE!

Post #12 did. They just chose not to spoil it like you just did. :)

#81
LK said on May 24, 2014 at 7:54 a.m.

They should pick this up as a regular tv series, I'm sure it has enough martial arts action for average american viewers.

As for some that might get turned off by hearing non-English words, I believe the rest of the series will be much more English-centric (since they are travelling the world and no longer in Japan that much).

I was impressed by Gouken's portrayal by Akira Koieyama, he really hit the emotional scenes spot on. Ryu and Ken are like his sons, Ryu especially so (since Ryu was an orphan and probably has a some degree of mild autism).

Seeing them grow up, mature and inherit his school of martial art, that emotion welling up. And also knowing he might never see them again (that duel with Akuma, I doubt Gouken believe he can win for sure).
