Triple threat: Tiers launched for Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and HD Remix

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • May 18, 2014 at 7:03 p.m. PDT

Keeping with our tier progression, we've rolled out our next listings for three games. Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix.

In the case of SSF2T, we've added spots for all of the "Old" characters, e.g. the SSF2 version of these fighters in SSF2T.

In both the SF2 games, we've omitted Akuma from our tier lists, as he's banned in tournament play.

If you're knowledgeable about these games, please head on in and vote on the match ups.

The HD Remix rankings are what I'm interested in. The game was abandoned too early.

If only there was a better version of that game that came out in the 90's

I agree, but it's kind of their own fault.

I was following the game back when it was first announced and was anticipating it for YEARS, but it got delayed for far too long. Instead of getting some time in the spot light, they delayed it right up to the launch of SF4. Because of that, it lost it's entire fanbase to a newer game within months of it's release.

No wonder why the lobbies are so empty. -_-

I love how Zangief wins Evo and still considered bottom 2.

Thats because tourney results don't determine tier rankings.

A bunch of people who don't know how to use the character determines it?

There is literally a .1 point difference between Chun-Li and Yun in the collective list right now. Given that people have been arguing over which of the two is better for 15 years, I'd say that's on the right track.

I mean I'd put Chun over him too but it's not like people are way off here.

IN THE ORIGIN, VEGA ALWAYS HAVE BEEN THE BEST FIGHTER OF THIS GAME.

"I don't think _______ is as low tier as everyone says!"

You do understand what a tier list actually is? They're bottom tier because they don't have many favorable match-ups. A bottom tier character can win, no one is denying that, but it's usually an uphill battle for the player using a bottom-tier character.

Tier lists are determined by the number of favorable, even and unfavorable match-ups.

HD Remix could've been better if someone else was in charge of the balancing process. David Sirlin's attempt was okay, but it's the certain parts of the gameplay could've been better. Sometimes it's risky when you remake a very popular game, but if you have the opportunity to do it, make it stand out. But HD Remix divided the community: some of them liked it, some of them disliked it. As someone above already mentioned this, it was also a bad timing since SF4 was released around 2008/09. Capcom USA should've known better.

I still think Akuma is in the same tier as Ken.

But what do I know. Imo, all of these old games should have the same tier opinions since we've been playing then for 10+ years. We should know everything there is to know about them.

Yun being slightly higher than chun makes sense. He has more mobility, mixups, and if you're really good at gj, you can do a ton of damage with little meter building. Chun is easy to parry against (single hit normals), and doesn't have much in the way of real damage outside of sa2.

I don't see how Urien can be so low. I feel like he's not as good as Makoto, but better than Ken.

I really hope not everyone just jumps on the bottom tier Sean bandwagon.

He's honestly alot better than Hugo, Twelve and Remy.

It's really sad that most of the people voting on these tiers have no idea what they're talking about.

Thank you - I actually voted that the matchup with Sean/Remy was 6-4 Sean's favor. Never really had a problem with Remy players while using Sean. Never had a problem with Hugos or Twelves either.

I think you missed the point of his post. Did you even watch the video he posted?
