sarif2soon said on March 5, 2014 at 12:33 p.m.

Wait, what?
We're already in season 3?
Probably should've watched those last two episodes.

nusense said on March 5, 2014 at 12:49 p.m.

Dan confirm that if ratings don't pick up CALL IT A RAP. The higher up is not happy with the ratings.

rudiano said on March 5, 2014 at 12:54 p.m.

New season but all players still the same? WTF? at least get some new ones in

Pachendrix said on March 5, 2014 at 12:54 p.m.

So season 3 is the same players from season 2? Which already included 4 players from season 1? As exciting as Alioune's "reign of terror" was, I'm done with this crap. What's the point if we're gonna see the same players, and hence same matches, over and over again? FailFish

ArcadeRobot said on March 5, 2014 at 12:56 p.m.

FN: Season 3 - The Runback!!!

Pachendrix said on March 5, 2014 at 12:58 p.m.

Ratings would be perfect if they knew a little something called variety, rather than having the same players all the freaking time. "Got eliminated? Don't worry, you're gonna be here next season anyways." Kappa

Existent said on March 5, 2014 at 12:58 p.m.

You missed nothing.

AdamBomb said on March 5, 2014 at 12:59 p.m.

Did the host(Dan/Frodan) really say that? I really hope not because if so, it will be yet another step back :/

AdamBomb said on March 5, 2014 at 1:01 p.m.

Gootecks has stated that they have tried to get many of the people have been asking for to come onto the show but for one reason or another, they could not make it. I feel like this is most likely the best they could get.

SAMURAI said on March 5, 2014 at 1:02 p.m.

Who cares if it's the same players. I don't see you complain when Daigo, Sako, Tokido, Mago, ... are in every edition of Godsgarden / Topanga.

Gotomaster said on March 5, 2014 at 1:03 p.m.

If that is the case, they really should have changed up the format, brought a greater number of variety in players, and character choices, etc. Seriously, half of season 1 cast returned, and season 2 & 3 have the same batch of players, 3 who use the same character, not very much loved in the commmunity. This is a great concept, which hasn't been executed properly.

nusense said on March 5, 2014 at 1:06 p.m.

Yes, frodan was on the on blast show saying they will be doing one more season. Dan will be fighting to keep the show, but said the cost doesn't justify in keeping the show. They haven't decided yet to cancelled it or to keep it. It will be based on the viewership of the next season. He also said the other shows like hearthstone are doing will, but the fgc show is lacking traction\press promotion\fgc players promoting it\viewership.

BlackGuile said on March 5, 2014 at 1:09 p.m.

o god I was hoping we wouldnt have to deal with the Cammy army again on this show

AdamBomb said on March 5, 2014 at 1:09 p.m.

I'm assuming that by one more season, you're saying that this season is possibly the last, right? If so then that is really disappointing :/

nusense said on March 5, 2014 at 1:14 p.m.

Not sure if he miss spoke, but he said they will be stopping after season 3 if viewership doesn't pick up. But he also said that in 2 weeks they would be filming the last season.

Seem's like these so called fgc personality\players care only about the money\free trips(I'm not saying everybody). They go do an event and don't promote or care to promote the event at all. Once they got paid\free trip, they could care less. Only a few of them really are promoting esgn.

I don't think it's as easy to get these players as people are making it out to be, they all live personal lives outside of the FGC and unfortunately if it isn't a legit tournament I'm sure a lot of people don't want to or simply can't travel to Germany to participate.

SpiderUppercut said on March 5, 2014 at 1:31 p.m.

If you want viewership then get players the crowd wants to see.

You know, the guy who won EVO twice in a row, and totally destroyed the later EVO champions 10 - 0 and 10 - 2.

You know, before the 're-balancing' occurred.

Guess it might be too late now!

SAMURAI said on March 5, 2014 at 1:32 p.m.

And here we got Xian, Infiltration, Alioune, K-Brad,, Ryan Hart, Sanford. These guys are some of the best players.
I would like to see Daigo, Kazunoko, Sako, Bonchan, Haitani and some other top players in here, but it ain't easy to get them.

SAMURAI said on March 5, 2014 at 1:33 p.m.

And you think that he just comes when you call him? It ain't that easy.

nusense said on March 5, 2014 at 1:34 p.m.

Dan said they tried, but Diago said he wanted to wait till ultra came out first. ESGN been in talks with his manager for awhile now.

Daigo, Kazunoko, Sako, Bonchan, Haitani
Outside of Daigo those players would not being in many more viewer.

xYomiLord420x said on March 5, 2014 at 1:34 p.m.

It sucks that season 3 has the same boring roster as season 2. If there is a Season 4 (doubtful), I hope they can get a completely new roster of top players from all over the world; also a different time slot would be nice. When ESGN airs, people are usually at work or school.

djm0001 said on March 5, 2014 at 1:35 p.m.

I hear if you say "DAIGO" 3 times during a Ryu mirror match, he'll appear and play as the other Ryu

SAMURAI said on March 5, 2014 at 1:37 p.m.

The time is perfect. It's in Europe, it's evening here.
We Europeans have to stay up the whole night until morning for US tournaments.

Last weekend I stayed up until 7 in the morning for SCR.

@ djm0001
Nice one! Have to try that.

yes4me said on March 5, 2014 at 1:41 p.m.

Prediction #1: Xian will lose to K Brad who will lose to Alioune in the final game.
Prediction #2: Cammy vs Cammy is going to be boring.

Round Robin
5 sets >> 7 sets = shorter games, more possible games.
They could also spice the show by playing people online, or even top players, or even do phone interviews.

sarif2soon said on March 5, 2014 at 1:47 p.m.

I heard that if you said "Candyman" 5 times in front of a mirror, he'll appear and take the ass-whooping you would've taken.

ltalia90 said on March 5, 2014 at 1:53 p.m.

Shame if they're going to axe the show, but understandable if it's not performing as well as they wanted.

I've enjoyed both seasons so far so good job to ESGN and thanks for the wheelly good memories.

xYomiLord420x said on March 5, 2014 at 2:01 p.m.

I know ESGN is based in europe, but lets be honest, the european FGC is very small compared to its competitive FPS, MOBA, and RTS counterparts. If they want more viewers, they need to pick a time slot where bigger SF4 scenes like the NA and SEA scenes can have a chance to watch.

GodPride said on March 5, 2014 at 2:02 p.m.

There must be a financial reason why they kept all 8 of the returning members. They should really swap out 2 of them per season to keep it somewhat fresh or replace one of the cammy players with mike ross. It'd be hitting 2 birds with one stone; the gootecks and mike pairing would be out and character variety would be in.

Breakingbad said on March 5, 2014 at 2:04 p.m.

bisonoob said on March 5, 2014 at 2:09 p.m.

i like it. it's free too. im still going to watch it and still support it. its one of the main thing i go to eventhubs for. nobody pays to watch it, and ur wanting filet minon? if u want them to pay 25K and fly all these players around, then pay for the show. just b greatful it's around, and enjoy it. i swear the lot that complains do not know economics at all. this is y canadian cup is cancel

AdamBomb said on March 5, 2014 at 2:11 p.m.

This was filmed the day after they did Season 2 since Gootecks accidently said yesterday instead of last season. So yeah, they probably didn't want to have to do another one down the line when they had a perfectly good opportunity to do another the next day while the players were still there.

wallie said on March 5, 2014 at 2:25 p.m.

Exactly, if they want more viewers then they need to broadcast this tournament 10pm EST/7pm PST. just compare viewership of IVGC tournament last weekend to SCR.

Sage_Liebert said on March 5, 2014 at 2:34 p.m.

Are GodsGarden/Topanga only a 4 player tournament?

s0lid_snake said on March 5, 2014 at 2:38 p.m.

It's no surprised they are using the same roster, the viewership just isn't high enough to justify flying out new players. When Alioune was close to taking the 25k I always wondered how the show will be profiting from this if they only reach 2-3k viewers max.

Even if they get players like Daigo there still won't be much viewers. The first season was fresh with good players. The first season had the highest potential of viewers and it still didn't even get a lot of viewers so bringing in Daigo won't help it.

s0lid_snake said on March 5, 2014 at 2:44 p.m.

If you guys want to see players like Daigo and Sako then give them a reason to pay for their trips. Continue supporting the stream for season 3 even if it is the same roster, because at this rate it makes sense to keep them the show is not getting the ratings. Earn the players you want to see by supporting the stream.

I really enjoy this show and I am disappointed like everyone else that it is the same roster, but I can understand why it is. So I'm going to continue supporting the show so it can continue and bring in better players, and I hope everyone else would too.

andyknigth said on March 5, 2014 at 2:56 p.m.

I think what they should do to make the show fresh is that any player that gets 4 consecutive wins at least would qualify for the next season and if you fall below that fighting everyone then you cant return, then there would be opportunity to get new players in :)

GodPride said on March 5, 2014 at 3 p.m.

That makes the most sense financially.

I wonder if having 3 cammy players was a fiscal response to Infiltration winning in season 1. It would be hilarious if that were the case with Alioune nearly taking all the winnings in season 2. There must've been some sigh of relieve for the investors when Xian to him down.

vicious1024 said on March 5, 2014 at 3:06 p.m.

ESGN is an invitational taking place in Germany, right? Aren't Godsgarden/Topanga Japanese tournaments? Doesn't it make sense for some of Japan's best to consistently show up?

In any case, people clearly want more variety from the show; inviting 3 Cammy players for 2 seasons is the polar opposite of that.

AdamBomb said on March 5, 2014 at 3:10 p.m.

Actually, if I recall correctly, Gootecks did state that they took character match-ups into account so they might have gotten the Cammy players in to take out Infiltration. Not sure though

dorayaki said on March 5, 2014 at 4:26 p.m.

Hate to say it but the FGC is poverty. I don't know what the producers were looking to capitalize on - probably viewership for ad support. But no company wants to target the FGC cuz they know the FGC is poverty.
Plus you exclude on the biggest markets, Japan, by not having any Japanese players.
And ALSO, you pre-record the show and make it so that no one can talk about it. Games are not like the Bachelor. It's more like sports. And no one really wants to see pre-recorded sports.

I enjoy the show honestly cuz there's not much else in FGC going on. I think others feel the same. But if you want more viewership, you gotta include the Japanese market.

And if you wanna save money, have sponsors fly their players out as they would any other tourney.

throughsilence said on March 5, 2014 at 4:42 p.m.

Exactly this^

So many people are spoiled rotten. As stated in a comment above, they invited new people but for one reason or another, they couldn't make it - so returning season 2's line up was the best they could do.

Support it and show that people are watching so they won't cancel it. I totally enjoy this show, it's a breath of fresh air from all the failed attempts to bring FGs to the forefront.

Atax1s said on March 5, 2014 at 6:49 p.m.

Part of the problem is the time slot. The other problem is that it's too e-sports. From the whispering commentary to the advertising break after nearly every game. It's good to have production value but when you have a commentator who is so e-sports that he mispronounced Gen over and over without correction, it kills hype.

Darc_Requiem said on March 5, 2014 at 7 p.m.

While i'll admit production wise season 2 was better. Season 1 was just better cause of the Character Variety. I'm sorry but when you have 3 Cammy players all in it..its just a waste of time to watch and I'd rather read the results

teufelsdroch said on March 5, 2014 at 8:16 p.m.

Yes--regardless of player, regardless of commentator, it is simply impossible for California/Western America to tune in to these time slots.

If ESGN wants to pursue a live business model, they have to find a way to allow their audience to view the product. Suppose the player pool was Daigo, Wao, Sako, and Infiltration--with Valle and Killian on the mike. It *wouldn't matter*, because *half of ESGN's audience couldn't view it.*

dennishubs said on March 5, 2014 at 10:24 p.m.

@54: that's just false, every major FG tourney has been at the same timeslot with way more viewers, playing pools. ESGN hearthstone has 20-30k viewers at the same timeslot. fact is, people are just not giving ESGN the chance it deserves and that is a real shame.

Jayson619 said on March 5, 2014 at 10:46 p.m.

nusense said on March 6, 2014 at 12:25 a.m.

The fact is the fgc is not that big. Only evo breaks 100k viewers, Scr had 45k+, Ceo broke over 40k+. With ncr\ufgt doing decent numbers. But the rest of the majors barely breaks over 20k viewers IE: DNF\Winterbawl\ECT\Summerjam\SEAM\shadowlu Showdown\canada cup.Heck capcom cup barely broke over 25k viewers.

We've been looking at suggestions of having multiple games such as MarvelvsCapcom3 along with Street Fighter, having a more diverse player pool, etc...

However, all of your feedback is very helpful to us and we appreciate everything you say. If you would like to contact us, please send us a message on our Twitter ( or Facebook ( pages and we'll try to answer as many questions as possible!

yes4me said on March 6, 2014 at 12:51 p.m.

Sure I can give you my opinions to help your show:

Too many interviews = too much boring fillers

Make the games shorter set from 7 to 5 and round robin style. That way, there is less chance of collusion, we get to see everyone play everyone, more action, less boring faces, and we see a ranking at the end. Of course, you need to change the price/reward system.

The wheel was a bit entertaining, but as episode 2 proves, it has huge flaw. By the end, the winner can influence way too much who he plays. Personally, I would use the wheel for something different: I would ask every players to pick 3 characters, and use the wheel to randomly select the first characters they will start with.

Like in Heartstone, you can make a small tournament by team too with a small price.

Like in Heartstone, it would be cool if one of the participant gives his commentary on the games. Of course, you can also ask Ken Boggard.

It would be cool to see how the players fare online if character select randomly.

You can also try to do phone interview for fillers.

Change the chairs. I heard people says it is very uncomfortable.

If you can move the studio once in a while to other country (ex: Japan), we will be delighted to get a fresh group of new players.

at first i was kinda on the fence about this show, but it's actually becoming pretty hype now. especially since i read up on the rules and finally understand them. that's why k-brad and sanford decline matches, they want someone else to go on a run and build up the pot, then they're hoping to come in once it's 10k - 25k and steal it away.

Compared that to Kfraud who smack talked Xian constantly AFTER dodging himself... talk about Karma that he got nailed with the mirror match lol.

The_Big_Boss said on March 6, 2014 at 1:38 p.m.

This is exactly why we can't have nice things. All these know it alls who won't shut up and just support a good thing for the FGC. So what if it's 3 Cammy players. $25,000 ARE ON THE LINE. I THINK A LOT OF YOU WOULD PLAY CAMMY IN A HEARTBEAT. Besides I wouldn't even call Alioune a strictly cammy player as he has pulled out a number of different characters. Just be thankful that people in the FGC are getting opportunities like this. If it blows up the same people will be crying about how there is nothing in the FGC but when it was here all you did was whine like a baby. THINK ABOUT THE BIGGER PICTURE AND STOP BEING SELFISH!

ltalia90 said on March 6, 2014 at 1:38 p.m.

Gotomaster said on March 6, 2014 at 2:30 p.m.

Not really, Xian looked like he was sandbagging hard, thus gave ChiRithy the sense of security, after the 5th game, you can tell Xian downloaded ChiRithy. Had they had a second set, Xian would have 7-1 ChiRithy. I don't like giving players excuses, but this time, you can tell.

Soooo just when we think the cammy infested season is over they bring them straight back, wtf? Seriously who in the whole wide world is excited to see chi rithy vs k-brad?? No one! They wonder why the ratings are bad haha.. Im not saying lets get daigo and bonchan and sako and all the best players but atleast ad some variety, even if they have to get lesser known players. Also these cammy players will probably never be heard of again in ultra where its gonna take actual skill and knowledge of the game to win.

Another way to get more viewers and up the ante is to invite players who play different characters(no 3 cammys like this season) and have them all play each-other FT5 (10-12 players?). That way you can get 2-3 games each episode, and the 2 with the worst record are eliminated. The remaining players play a tournament FT5 with seeds depending on records. WF and GF is FT7 and winner gets X amount of money along with 2nd and 3rd place prizes (or just one 1st place prize to avoid "collusion". If you would like to elaborate on my idea feel free

The reason why nobody's watching this is because you can feel the money being forced into it by the E-Sports ideology that ESGN has, it's just not what the FGC is about, we make our own tournaments, we have our own meet ups & play the games we like for our own reasons. With larger companies trying to step in they're destroying what they're trying to get their hands on, this was gonna fail from the get go, not because a lack of Daigo or too much Cammy but the pure tackiness and whole pristine vibe the show has. Really if ESGN wanted a fighting game show they should've just invested money into known tournament organisers to make a tourney that they would have exclusive rights to.

tl;dr E-Sports amirite?

Green016 said on March 6, 2014 at 4:59 p.m.

Having three Cammy players was the biggest/dumbest mistake this show could have made. I don't know about you guys but I haven't watched a single episode of season 2. Why would anyone wanna watch the same old brain dead bs every episode? How about next season they get three Sakura players or make viewers fall asleep and bring in three Fei players.

I think the 3 main reasons people stopped watching is because
1. 3 Cammy players no one wants to see cammy on screen all day.
2. Eliminated players aren't really eliminated, they bring them back so viewers feel there is no real consequence to losing.
3. It's on at 3:30est. Everyone is still at work or maybe just getting off school and would have to go out of their way to watch.

It being e-sports has little to do with the lack of viewership. Anyone that competes or enjoys watching should embrace the opportunities these games are getting.

I mean, he was under-estimating ChiRithy. Think about it, why would he go and try to use his subpar E.Ryu, mid set, when Gen proved helpful against a better Cammy player? Obviously he felt embarrassed losing to ChiRithy, you can tell by his expressions.

Man, the people complaining about the Season 2/3 casting are the most self-entitled bunch of idiots. You guys are actually the worst. Especially the particular idiot who complained about seeing "the same matches all over again".. Well, no.. With 8 different people there's several different possible matches that we haven't seen before i.e. K-Brad vs Chi-Rithy. How people constantly find something to complain about in the FGC genuinely makes me sick. Bunch of children.

spotlesseden said on March 6, 2014 at 6:23 p.m.

why can't people complain about a show? People complain about TV shows all the time. More people watch PPV Topanga League than this. This is sad.

doomfanatiq said on March 6, 2014 at 6:51 p.m.

yup people complain all the time, but if they provide constructive criticism it be better, at least if they bothered to read the conments they know where to work on and improve...

what I don't understand is why are people complaining about companies are trying to turn this into a professional sports, I get that games are fun, but isn't sports fun too in the first place ? is it any less fun if it becomes professional ?

doomfanatiq said on March 6, 2014 at 6:55 p.m.

I agree, I dislike cammy mirror and akuma mirror matches myself, but I don't complain because I respect that there will be people wanting to see that mirror matches...

most people complain if things don't go their way, they don't get it because they don't put themselves in other's perspective...

I'm glad chi rithy brought one home for Canada. He beat dieminion twice in a row grand finals in 2 road to Evo majors before. Still tweaks me out when I hear Americans say they did something 'on accident'. Canadians don't do things on accident. We do things by accident. Totally weird

doomfanatiq said on March 6, 2014 at 7 p.m.

actually, eryu does fare better against cammy, Xian must be thinking of this, if any of you bother watching his replay vs alioune or any cammy players, dive kick characters are generally a bad matchups for gen because of lack of meterless aa options like dp...

I do not believe for a second Xian was sand bagging with 25k on the line, but because he really thought his eryu could work, and of course he is embarrassed for losing, not only to chirithy but to anybody when he loses...

bagel_bytez said on March 6, 2014 at 8:08 p.m.

and btw I haven't been able to catch FIGHTNIGHT from the strt in awhile now. Instead of going on Ehubs to check the results OR jumping randomly on stream for a spoiler alert... I has since learned to go to or whatver where they have the full archive uploaded. Perfect quality full length, skippable ( fr intros and whatnot) and no commercials. Ten I can come on here and talk abut it without any spoilers

Gotomaster said on March 6, 2014 at 9:03 p.m.

I'D say the matchup isn't all that much better, unless your E.Ryu is on point, even then, just a bit. The only thing he has going for him is a better time racking up stun and damage over Gen. Xian definitely downloaded ChiRithy by the 5th game, notice how he won all of them but two, and a lot of that is due to Cammy cheese. I'm sorry, but that character is ridiculous compared to Gen, where Xian needs to make nothing but correct guesses, where Rithy can afford making a few screw ups, which he did in mass.

SonicfanQ said on March 6, 2014 at 9:56 p.m.

I can't speak for everyone else but I know I stop watching the show because of cammy. watching her makes me wana throw up. So unbalanced.....

mercurian said on March 6, 2014 at 9:56 p.m.

Xian basically couldn't make anywhere near the amount of incorrect guesses as Chi-Rithy. Xian might have been the better player, but Chi-Rithy got more out of his correct guesses.

Someone please stop the cammyfest.

doomfanatiq said on March 6, 2014 at 10:48 p.m.

totally agreed that cammy can afford more screw ups than gen or eryu haha...

even though it isn't that much better, but I believed Xian thought it was better on paper like most of us, the replay vs alioune cammy shows that gen have no real options for stopping cammy from getting in, and any blocked dp that Xian mashed out under pressure basically gives the game away, at least eryu got good aa and dp fadc...

i think the matchups for shotos vs cammy in ultra is still going to be very bad if shotos have no real way of getting out of cammy's pressure with -5 fadc

ESGN, if you're reading this then you should disregard all the negativity from FGC trolls. Poor ratings has more to do with when the broadcast goes live. I catch it sometimes from work on my mobile but 3:30pm in the east coast never mind the west coast is not the optimal time to getting max viewers. Something around 9pm EST-6pm PST would be ideal.

The wheel gimmick is fine, what REALLY makes this show entertaining is the amount of smack talk in real time from the player themselves. This is still in the "growing" pains area but compared to previous seasons, it IS improving even if the ratings don't necessarily reflect that. Everyone here should be very grateful that we ARE getting free advertisement to a lot of new viewers via ESGN.

If we ever hope to achieve the level of mainstream success these other eSports league is doing, we need to broaden our views on these initiatives. Let go of the ghetto elitist tournament out of the basement attitude and embrace what will bring more viewers. In the long run, more viewership means bigger tournaments which will directly result in more sponsorship and payouts for our favorite players. Heck Hearthstone is only in Beta, and random chicks flashing her rack while playing like a scrub can get 3K viewers... We still got a long way to go.

As for the specifics on how to improve:

1. Live broadcast time changed to around 9pm EST-6pm PST, yes this show is European but let's face it, North America is the real viewership you want.

2. Would love to see a season of Team vs Team. Kind of like the old SBO tourneys, 8 teams of 3 players would be awesome to see.

3. Crossover demographics, invite currently popular Starcraft/LOL/Hearthstone players to try out Street Fighter. Get those players to hype it up through their various social media tools. It wouldn't be competitive but I guarantee a LOT of their fans will tune in and who knows might look at the FGC differently.

Anyways, having a blast watching it so far. Hope you guys produce more seasons in the future cheers~

I understand that people complain about TV all the time, but a lot of the criticism here isn't even constructive and in actuality, the mindset a lot of you have is actually more detrimental to the growth of the FGC. It's like people here aren't accepting the change unless it goes absolutely perfect. I'm not saying that ESGN doesn't have minor flaws or certain aspects that can be worked on, but people here are talking crap about it as if this isn't a new concept that quite frankly, we're fortunate enough, in the FGC, to be a part of. Just my opinion anyway.
