Big Band parries Cerebella into oblivion, 100% combos, and more: This may be the greatest Skullgirls Encore combo video we've seen yet

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • June 26, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. PDT

Earlier today we were sent a truly amazing Skulgirls Encore combo video that showcases some of the greatest sequences we've ever seen in the game.

This compilation is a collaborative project, featuring a handful of excellent combo wizards. Each combo in this video utilizes a team of characters, and there are a number of creative concepts included here such as touch of death combos, juggles using Peacock's bombs and Squigly's Squigly Battle Opera super, crazy DHCs, and much more.

For those of you who aren't into watching intros, you may want to skip to about 2:00 into the video to begin catching all of the action. Below you will find "FrAcTaL," the Skullgirls Encore combo music video.

This combo video was beautiful. Simply total fighting game bliss.

liked most of the music, LOVED the combos

but when your combo vid takes 2 minutes to get to the actual combos there may be a problem

I normally go insane for videos taking forever to start ! But this video editing was to godlike to complain and music fit so well!

Amazing trance music and amazing combos ! Skullgirls just needs more characters and it's on it way to be one of the best fighting games out...

Vid is amazing, shame Painwheel is not featured (except for one single instance). But again, this is simply amazing. I will call out the ridiculous 2 min intro though. I don't care how good the video is (and again this one is almost flawless), there's no video in the planet, that deserves a 2 minute intro. 5 secs intro is perfect, 10 seconds is ok, but anything longer than that is a complete waste of time.

I don't play this game and watched it all the way through. Excellent video/work. Makes me want to pick it up lol.

This is one of the greatest combo video's I've seen yet. Beautiful combos with amazing editing. This game deserves move love, and this video is a testament to an amazing game. Very well done guys, somewhere Mike Z is wiping away a tear.

Wow one of the more well presented combo videos only gripe was the long ass intro lol

I'm actually more impressed with the craftiness of the intro than the actual combos.

Some constructive criticism: The editor has talent but is too much in love with his After Effects templates. The visual effects are all over the place and distract from the content. It will be a step towards a more professional approach to use effects sparingly and just where they make sense. Never forget your watchers!
Other than that the effort to make something like that for your community is admirable.

@EH: Strange, I can't edit my typos. Everytime I save my edited post, it tells me that it was successful but it wasn't.

It takes a minute or 2 to show the changes. Maybe that's why?

Why do people still play marvel with this around?

erkicman said on June 27, 2014 at 6:47 a.m.

Because a lot of people haven't played the game since launch and they don't realize that Skullgirls Encore plays completely differently from Skullgirls Vanilla and even Skullgirls Slightly Different Edition. Combo lengths and monotony in Slightly Different Edition were aggravating. Skullgirls Encore is now the only fighting game I'm really willing to play and put work into right now. Even though I suck.

That, and people still complain about the small roster, even though the number of viable teams and options that the current roster offers is quite frankly staggering, and once Eliza hits the number of options will skyrocket into "holy crap!" territory.

Because the aesthetic of this game is very off-putting to a lot of people, regardless of the quality of the gameplay. There's also no comparison to the history people have with the MvC cast.

Whengameswerefun said on June 27, 2014 at 8:12 a.m.

Skullgirls which i have on both pc and ps3 doesn't get no love because like most anime fighters the curve is steeper so it loses a lot of people who are newcomers lol I just put in persona 4 and was surprised to find some people still on. But games like sf4 you can have a basic execution level and still succeed due to how that game is designed.

#33
Clamper said on June 27, 2014 at 8:24 a.m.

At high level SF4's execution is much higher than Blazblue, Persona or Skullgirl.

#34
Zidiane said on June 27, 2014 at 11:27 a.m.

The execution for Street Fighter is higher. Since Skullgirls execution is so low, after a day you can have a good combo even as a newbie. People who don't go into training room and just try story mode, learn the specials, and then hop online are the players that are lost.

In Street Fighter, even if someone's been playing the game for 3 months, if they are just playing the game for fun, you both will be doing roughly equal combos, give or take a button or two.

Also, PC Skullgirls is quite active. 404 people in game right now. http://steamcharts.com/app/245170#All

Nice to see that such a small game has such a large number of international fans.

Dimensional said on June 27, 2014 at 12:32 p.m.

great combo video but a little over produced this one and the one with Big Band in training mode with unlimited meter playing that song are my two of my favourite combo vids although I suppose the Big Band one is more of a cool look what you can potentially do vid.

#37
Brisk said on June 27, 2014 at 1:28 p.m.

Makes sense, its a shame people complain about the small cast since, you know only about 10 characters in marvel are worth using not counting team specific characters of course.

COREY_1993 said on June 28, 2014 at 5:20 a.m.

i would have complained about the extremely long intro... but cause the video was well edited i dont care lol.

never played the game before but now i want to play XD

Abbadon36 said on June 28, 2014 at 6:48 a.m.

Yeah, this seems to be becoming a thing. 10 minute combo videos with 5 minutes of combos in them. Kinda weird but hey they're putting in the work i'll watch.

That was pretty amazing, the music and editing is what really got me. I haven't touched SG in a long while but this just inspired me to get back into it.
