Seems like they never fixed how they present fgc tournaments, The down time with crappy Dubstep only hurts them. People don't want to wait so long between 10 minute matches and the FGC is primarily and urban crowd, so I'm sure the music isn't too favorable to them.

warriors said on June 20, 2014 at 4:04 p.m.

so i never touched super smash

but why are they playing gamecube version melee
and not the newer wii u version brawl?

#6
Kuai said on June 20, 2014 at 4:05 p.m.

Because Nintendo won't let them play Brawl Kappa

Because its not finished yet obviously. And everyone prfers Melee anyways. Melee is more popular.

#9
Basketweiner said on June 20, 2014 at 4:19 p.m.

Melee is more beloved in the smash community because it has wave-dashing, L-canceling and a lot of other fast paced competitive techniques. All of the worlds strongest smash players flock towards melee.

godfist314 said on June 20, 2014 at 4:35 p.m.

WOW those pop up stream ads that instantly play the moment I load this page is annoying. I WILL NOT watch streams that force me to watch ads. TONS of other streams that are just as good in video quality and have hype matches. If Evo does this....then I'm not gonna watch it. (Yeah right what am I saying?!)

#11
warriors said on June 20, 2014 at 4:44 p.m.

i browsed a little and it seems
melee is not playable on wii or wii u

and doesnt have an online mode

how did this game manage to stay alive and have a large community?

MLG has the worst possible scheduling. Everytime I've "attempted" to watch and support, the downtime has been insane. I think the MLG logo is going to burn into my monitor.

#16
teufelsdroch said on June 20, 2014 at 6 p.m.

I think everyone who checked out a melee tourney wondered the same thing.

It's unique...people drag out gamecubes and tube TVs to compete in a 13 year old game. There's nostalgia, but something else, too.

The melee community has grown--not just while Nintendo was ignoring them, but even when Nintendo was opposing them.

I'm also confused as to how it happened--but you have to respect a player base and a community that has turned the FGC on its head.

You can play it on wii. That's how I play it. I don't know if newer models of the Wii can run GameCube games, but the older ones can.

#21
P0LARCLAW said on June 20, 2014 at 6:53 p.m.

This has been the worst stream experience I've ever had. It took 4 hours for the Injustice tournament to start. And their explanation was that the bracket system was down? You would think that at a large, "professional" event they would have even a glimpse of a back-up plan. This is god awful. #sendKeitstoMLG

That's the wrong criticism.

The right criticism is that the FGC is a f***ing sausage fest. That gaming supports white male fantasies, rape culture, and jingoism.

#27
Basketweiner said on June 20, 2014 at 10:20 p.m.

I've been trying to watch both melee and injustice for like 5 hours now, and it's crazy how much time is spent in between matches compared to your average FGC stream. Also, the MLG app is driving me nuts, any time I switch between the two streams I have to watch another commercial only to find that more often the not, the other stream is also taking a ten minute break between matches. I've seen more Earth to Echo trailers, than matches today; and I'm still not gonna watch that ET knockoff.

Sorry to break it to you, but you are a class A moron.

FGC is the most racially diverse gaming community. All other so called esports is dominated by asian and white males.

why is there that horrible generic "music"(dubstep/trance?) between matches

I hope capcom will never pair up with MLG -_-

#35
warriors said on June 21, 2014 at 3:54 p.m.

i really admire the smash bros community
very fun game, and a very dedicated community

on another note

i dont think smash bros wii u, will replace melee
i believe they will miss the boat on speed ... melee seems to be much
faster than smash bros wii u will be
:/

i think nintendo just need to give up and make melee downloadable for wii u

What is with the audio?? On one stream they are broadcasting the commentary over the PA and then picking it up with the crowd mics on top of the direct audio from the booth?? And on the other one the analysts are each only coming through mono on the side they are sitting on?? Highschool avclub level production.

So apparently MLG dropped the ball big time at Anaheim this weekend. Hopefully people are smart enough to understand that MLG is not an accurate depiction of eSports. From now on things can only get better for this "major" league gaming.
