Mii fighters selectable in new Super Smash Bros., just as competitive as the other characters says Nintendo

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • June 10, 2014 at 10:40 a.m. PDT

Update: This story has been updated with screenshots and art for the Mii Fighters characters which can be viewed after the jump.

Nintendo announced today that Mii Fighters would be selectable in the new Super Smash Bros games. They stated they're just as competitive as the other characters. Here's the rundown.

Mii Brawlers: They fight empty-handed and prefer to be up close and personal. Mii Brawlers are both fast and powerful.

Mii Swordfighter: These are weapon masters, they stay cool and calm as they chase down opponents.

Mii Gunners: Are armed with mysterious arm cannons and they have lots of different projectiles that can be fired from long range.

Each of these types can choose 4 special moves out of 12 options available. That means there are 36 total special moves that can be chosen, among the three classes.

Okay, this is cool. But will they be allowed in tournaments? Only a matter of time before someone finds a "top tier" combination of moves to equip. Unless they put some sort of limiter on them.

Perhaps there will be limitations setup by the community?

Tournaments will probably have one default build. Or four, to incorporate all the moves.

This is probably the best possible way to put Miis into the game. Well done.

Combot is forbidden in most Ttt2 tournaments, but some tournaments allow it and anybody found "the top tier combination of moves" yet. No fear about it.

Oh wow, Nintendo is really making the Wii U appealing with these first party titles lately.

I'm considering picking one up just for the new Smash and Mario Kart.

They're adding all the stuff to these games I always dreamed of as a kid, it's awesome.

Regardless of the combination the moves for the mii's look ohdee in and of themselves! a bunch of them seem like they're auto combos. their damage would have to be low to balance this. or lower the priority and/or knockout quality of their smash attacks.

I feel like they did a very poor job with marketing the Wii U initially. My roommate got one, and if I'd had any idea how great it was at launch, I'd have bought one then. Mario Kart makes it worth it by itself; that game is a blast.

I have never liked the Miis they just seem to cheapen every game they are in I wish they would have just kept to established characters in smash.

Create-a-fighters are never good or interesting.

Look at his post history. Suddenly perfect grammar and punctuation for this post. Something's odd.

Everything ok in Nintendo-land?

Don't worry. Mii fighters are balanced. Kappa

It's a nice idea, but I think they probably will dominate competitively once people figure out the optional choice of moves...although my hopes for a competitively balanced Smash were never high to begin with...

We're talking here about 3 fighting styles,e ach with 12 special moves to select, which is completely different from picking gems that boost your stats left and right.

Bear in mind, folks, that EVERY character has different special attack variations. There's most likely a default moveset for each style that will be the tournament standard, just like everyone else on the cast will be.

Errr... no, it does not(!) mean 36 different special moves. That every one of the three builds has 12 moves to choose from, does not mean some are not used twice. There is the possibility of builds sharing a basic special move in those 12 one can choose from.

o.o
