Twitch announces the 3 Japanese players they're flying to CEO 2014, plus a surprise: $1,000 pot bonus for Wednesday Night Fights & Super Smash Sundays

Posted by Cheng Kai 'KarbyP' Sim • June 4, 2014 at 8:03 a.m. PDT

Last week, Twitch asked you, esteemed members of the FGC, to decide which three Japanese fighting game players (of the ones shortlisted) the video streaming provider would be flying down to attend CEO 2014 on June 27-29 in Orlando, Florida.

You've casted your votes, and now the results are finally out -- along with a very special announcement.

On top of flying three Japanese players down, Twitch has also decided to show their support for Level Up’s Wednesday Night Fights & Super Smash Sundays weeklies, by throwing in a $1,000 pot bonus.

Hit the jump to find out who the three Japanese players are, and to read Twitch's address in full.

Hey Friends!

On behalf of Twitch I would like to thank our awesome community for the support and involvement with the vote! It is something that we are proud to be a part of and look forward to doing it again in the future.

Before getting to the results, we’ve also decided to support the Weeklies that coincide with the launch of Ultra Street Fighter IV. To that end, we are throwing a $1,000 pot bonus for Level Up’s Wednesday Night Fights & Super Smash Sundays.

And now the moment you’ve been waiting for. The standings, after we contacted the players for their availability, are as follows:

#1 Akimo

#2 Nishikin

#3 Dunhill

We will be sending these players to CEO so watch for them there on June 27-29! Because they are all competing in the US for the first time, this will be extra special for those of you who are able to attend. And those who can’t, be sure to watch it on Twitch at www.twitch.tv/ceogaming & www.twitch.tv/capcomfighters.

For the remaining players who were unable to attend due to work scheduling issues we will be keeping an eye on them ;).

Regarding CEO, there's also a new CEO Fightermania trailer and a player poll going on.

We have seen Honda with Miek Russ and Hoodaman like a million times, don't know why people didn't choose KOG or Youssan.

Well, at least is a change for the normal japanese player we see in USA tournaments regularly , good effort by Twitch

that trailer, this is why CEO is one of the best

No Acqua. R.I.P.

People did choose them it's just that they are unavailable on that weekend.

TheTTimeLives said on June 4, 2014 at 8:34 a.m.

They only contacted the top 3 picked.

I guess the secondaries will play if any of those three can't make it.

Will still be cool to see a foreign Honda try to win with that killed character. Like only char in ultra with a B and B that is punishable on hit.

Damn ACQUA, i wanted to see him but akimo and nishikin are cool anyway

#13
ltalia90 said on June 4, 2014 at 8:44 a.m.

The top 3 picks weren't Dunhill, Akimo and Nishikin.

KOG was the runaway #1 but can't make it, as the article implies there were conflicts with work.

Somebody on here ran this strawpoll:

http://strawpoll.me/1790622/r

The official twitter votes from what I saw were similar to that.

Yossan wouldve been hype but these three are better players imo. They definitely all have high chance of making top 8

DUNHILL FTW!!! Well, I guess I'm going to have a good time watching this player at CEo 2014 since he is using a character I recently picked up in AE2012 (and chalked up 1500+ bp with on my first try lol)

Would you happen to have a link to videos for the Hawk and Juri players you mentioned? I'm not familiar with too many japanese players outside the very well known ones that come out here now and then.

I don't understand the decision, according to this poll,

http://strawpoll.me/1790622/r

It should be KOG, Yossan, and Akimo
