Estimated prize payouts for EVO 2014's main games - breakdowns for top 8

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • July 2, 2014 at 9:35 p.m. PDT

With EVO 2014 taking place next weekend, you're probably wondering exactly what's at stake this year. Luckily, an Imgur user by the name of acekingoffsuit recently posted estimated prize payouts for each of the main games on the EVO lineup.

These numbers were calculated using the number of reported entrants per game, the amount sent to the prize pot for each entrance fee ($10), any additional pot bonuses, and the official EVO prize structure.

Below you can find the estimated totals for all of the main EVO 2014 games.

Total estimated prize pots:

Ultra Street Fighter 4: $29,790
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: $10,140
Super Smash Bros. Melee: $9,700
Blazblue Chrono Phantasma: $35,080
Killer Instinct: $13,380
King of Fighters 13: $3,190
Injustice: Gods Among Us: $3,110
Tekken Tag Tournament 2: $7,570

What follows are full breakdowns that include specific payouts for top 8 winners.

In terms of payout vs difficulty,

BB and KI are the best.

USF4 and Tekken are good.

Umvc3 and Smash are okay.

The rest are not worth it.

Honestly, I'm not even all that mad. The entire reason I made the gallery was to share the information that a lot of people were looking for. My question is, why is the credit given to imgur? That's like posting somebody's combo video and giving credit to YouTube. I mean, click on the link. The name is right there. It says "By acekingoffsuit" RIGHT THERE. I'm just... flabbergasted.

If you want credit, you should either submit it yourself to EH, put your name on the images, or just send them a message to let them know that you made it. It's not like they're trying to insult you. If they know, they'll credit you.

People upload stolen content to websites like imgur, youtube, etc. all the time. There's no way of knowing that the person who uploaded it is the person who made it. In fact, it's often not the case.

Heck, I see my own content reuploaded all the time on youube, and the thief's name is posted "RIGHT THERE" next to the video. That doesn't mean they made it.

Just let EH know, I'm sure they'll change it.

Eventscrubs being trash as usual, giving credit to the hosting website rather than the man who made the gallery of pics.

No, it's just sloppy journalism on EH part.

#35
acekingoffsuit said on July 2, 2014 at 11:35 p.m.

I'm not super concerned with credit for myself because as I said earlier, I made these so that people can see them, not for recognition. I'm more concerned with the fact that there seems to be little effort made to find the source of the content. What makes it worse is that they've gone ahead and hosted the content on their own servers. This is a double whammy for the content maker, as EH took away any reason to go to the producer's site for *this* content, and the lack of source prevents people from finding their future content. If they're crediting the wrong people, that's obviously bad, but that can be corrected. I don't think that's an excuse to not credit anyone.

Skullgirls has a $5k pot bonus for their side tourney, half from Autumn Games and half from Lab Zero by way of the sales from their EightySixed merch. SoulCalibur has two side tourneys, one for 2 and one for 5. One has an $850 bonus, the other has a $550 bonus which turns into $1050 if there's more than sixty entrants (I don't remember which game got which bonus). Both of those came from members of their community. P4A has a $1000 bonus from Atlus.

#64
hondahands said on July 3, 2014 at 7:43 a.m.

According to Beast_Gief and Remondo, EVO should be the top 64 all Japanese players (because there are 65 Japanese entrants). The "known" Japanese players are: Kazunoko Tokido Haitani Momochi Fuudo Sako Mago Dogura Bonchan Daigo Kyabetsu Chocoblanka (smile) Eita

According to them, that should be your top 16, the rest are all top 64 "hidden masters". No US/Canadian/European have a chance to make top 64.

My prediction for EVO this year. Maybe 1 or 2 US/European/Canadian/Chinese in top 8.

MANY upsets, many "known" Japanese players (of the 13 I listed) will NOT be in the top 8. Some of the "hidden masters" will make top 32. The "hidden Japanese masters" when compared at the end, will most likely not out perform the "known" non-Japanese pros.

Top 16/32 Will have many of the known US/European/Canadian players.

USF4 hasn't been out long enough to mature yet, I think Japan still has the advantage but the rest of the world is slowly "closing the gap". My bets are on EVO 2015, not EVO 2014 because they game is too new, and too unpredictable to forecast serious results. 2015 tournament will likely have even MORE Japanese players, and probably 2 or 3 US/European players in top 8 in 2015.

You are wrong. I will to beat that will be no Canadian or EU players in top 8 because i already see the bracket.
Evo is about 50% luck and 50% skill. There will be no all jp top in top 16 because of how the bracket setup. They have to eliminate eachothers.
IF i make the bracket, i can fix the bracket to make it that no US player can make top 8. or make it very easy for all Japanese players to make top 8.

Like you can put infiltration in the same side as Jwong, after infiltration beats j wong, then his matchup is Kazunoko.

#69
Dreamking23 said on July 3, 2014 at 8:24 a.m.

First off, I'll start out by apologizing outright. I am 99% certain that I added your name into my intro text (as I thought, "make sure you credit the person by name") but if for some reason I left it out, I truly do apologize.

It wasn't my intention to come in, post your work, and claim it as my own, like some in the comments here feel is the situation. Having said that, the only link I had to work with with these numbers was the Imgur post, so I was unaware that any original reddit source existed.

If I left out the link to your Imgur post entirely, (which, again I am fairly certain I had in from the start), I am truly sorry. This was not intentional and was simply an oversight (we post soooo many links a day, one is bound to slip through the cracks).

Lastly, I understand the concern with us hosting the images on our own servers. I made sure to block out the thumbnails with the games' logos and have the link back at the bottom right underneath (or so I thought) so that readers could choose which they wanted to click and so that the information wasn't revealed right after the jump.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience here.

@spotlesseden

"You are wrong. I will to beat that will be no Canadian or EU players in top 8 because i already see the bracket."

Strawman. If you look at my comment it says "Maybe 1 or 2 US/European/Canadian/Chinese in top 8." Not just the cherry picked canadian or EU to make a point.

"Evo is about 50% luck and 50% skill"

I beg to differ, that means all players coming in have a 50% chance to win, even if they started playing street fighter today. I am gather that no matter how much luck a first time player has, he will not be in the top 1000.

" There will be no all jp top in top 16 because of how the bracket setup"

I am glad we agree. Corresponds to my "Maybe 1 or 2 US/European/Canadian/Chinese in top 8.". Notice I did not comment on Korea of Singapore (Xian and Infiltration intentionally left out)

"IF i make the bracket, i can fix the bracket to make it that no US player can make top 8. or make it very easy for all Japanese players to make top 8."

Restate the obvious.

Just as a small improvement on what the current prizes are, I think first place winners should get 20K each (at least in USF4 and BB). But this is a big improvement over last year for some games it seems and that makes me happy. Evo....get hype!
