Just crazy...almost 2k for usf4, suprised with marvel I thought smash was going to beat it.

Start to flip coins. I think anyone can win. I am going to root for Japan, Frenchs, Xian, and Canada in no particular order. Best of luck all.

Smorgasboard said on July 1, 2014 at 9:02 a.m.

Eh, Marvel has almost 300 less entrants than least year while smash has almost 300 more. I think Smash did way better in that regard.

Injustice, KOF XII and TTT2 are basically on their way out with their large percentage of drop of what was already a relatively low number.

Blazblue community did well this year though with more entrants than last year's P4A.

Street Fighter is just showing off at this point.

Well, Marvel is dipping, while Smash is rising, if the new one proves Tournament viable, expect the WiiU Smash Bros to completely overtake
Marvel.

Also, dang, TTT2 numbers are so bad, that's about a hundred less players from last year. Same with Injustice, which lost more than 200.

#7
REGorilla said on July 1, 2014 at 9:07 a.m.

Damn, are there any streams that play KoF on a regular basis? I wish it could be even half as big as Ultra or Marvel.

Injustice drop about 200 players from last year.

Marvel drop like 300 less entrants

Usf4 keep on increasing each years WOOT

But yeah, this perhaps going to be the single hardest tournament in all of Sf4 history. The winner of this event is going to be quite renown.

And people thought KI was dead with only 50 odd entrants at CE! 300+ seems to be good turnout IMO.

with numbers like that there's bound to be hidden talent. lets see what unknowns make it to top 32

Hopefully Marvel will stay relatively strong in the future, I mean, it's the craziest game we have, bar none. Removing Marvel would undeniably create a void in the competitive FGC, and I can't think of any game that would be worthy of filling that void.

Anyway at this point EVO is gonna be more hype than the World Cup, I can't wait.

Ojidan_Boy said on July 1, 2014 at 9:59 a.m.

So if Smash Bros started getting the highest entrants numbers in tournaments, does that mean it would qualify for "main game" status. Or will traditional fighting games always have precedents over it no matter what.

Also, I'm still not entirely convinced that stream monsters even enjoy watching Smash at FGC events. What do you guys think?

#35
Gotomaster said on July 1, 2014 at 10:21 a.m.

Don't expect Marvel to be removed, 1000 entrants is still a ridiculous number, but its definitely losing steam, and won't be the second most prevalent game at Evo for long. As for filling th void, Smash seems to be on its way in replacing Marvel's spot, like it or not.

#36
Gotomaster said on July 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.

Smash still gets a ton of views. Also, it doesn't matter how many people are watching Smash. Sf4 didn't have the highest views at Evo, but still was the main game, due to having the most entrants. Evo isn't partial to any game. If Smash got the highest entrants, it would be the main game, no doubt.

Drfunk said on July 1, 2014 at 10:44 a.m.

Care to guess which country is sending the most amount of players to the US? *drum roll* Japan! Over 105 Japanese are coming to Evo this year. Just submitted the list of confirmed foreigners coming to Evo so it should be up soon. Not all of them are for Ultra but a good chunk of them will be.

EVO has consistently gotten bigger every year but this is arguably the first "esport-esque" level affair for Ultra. With almost 2K players that means it's 20K pot + 10K from Capcom = 30K in pot prize. Ultra Evo champ this year walks away with 18K guys... not to mention the single biggest bragging rights of the biggest SF tourney in history (well until next year heh).

Before the Japanese Brigade comes in with "America will be FREE" message, It'll be rough for the US to make top 8 this year. Just far too many international players wants a piece of that American Fight Money!

#41
Dimensional said on July 1, 2014 at 10:50 a.m.

Expected more for KI given that they had that bonus pot and of course its the first Evo and the games still fresh.

Would have liked to see more in KOFXIII but I think the fact its old (ish) and not by Capcom is hurting it a bit.

Smash seems to be doing well but im not surprised with the strength of the iconic characters and the fact the new one is out soon.

juggernaut1981 said on July 1, 2014 at 10:56 a.m.

My God people stop. Yes Smash will inevitably over take Marvel and take the number two spot, but that doesn't mean Marvel's dead. It just means that Smash will over take Marvel and become the number two spot. You wanna talk about dead games, how about the fact that TTT2 is about to have to join Skullgirls and Cross Tekken as side tournaments at Evo and this is probably the last year we'll see it on the big stage.

#44
evo546 said on July 1, 2014 at 10:58 a.m.

#48
Gotomaster said on July 1, 2014 at 11:04 a.m.

Remember that CEO is mostly an event for the established FGC crowd, who don't particularly care for Smash, but Evo brings in a much bigger crowd, who are going to be watching Smash. Remember that at E3, Ultra got only 3000 views, while Smash, the new one had 145k. It all rides on the Smash community embracing that game as a competitive game. If it does, expect it to be big.

#49
evo546 said on July 1, 2014 at 11:09 a.m.

And EVO is not established FGC crowd? With 2k ppl entering usf4 and over 100+ japanese flying in im sure it going to have the highest views for sure.

I never said it wasn't, but Evo has since expanded beyond the established FGC crowd, and Smash fans, who overshadow any other Fgc fanbases, are going to be tuning in just for that game.

BTW Who else will be attending Evo this year from EH? Hope to meet all of you so we can get drunk on a salty suite after going 0-4 from this massive competition!

USF4 and Smash are just unstoppable at this point, almost like a top lane Jax that's been fed. All the other games have lost entrants while those two games gain more over time.

#59
dorayaki said on July 1, 2014 at 11:44 a.m.

I agree with the TWO stream thing for StreetFighter. They should keep the main stage stream and have a roving reporter stream (via iphone or however) to cover as many top players as they can. I mean, you have SnakeEyes vs KOG mainstage while Smug vs ProblemX is going offstream.... I mean c'mon!!

And it would be HYPE if the streamer(s) stepped it up and produced graphics onstream about upcoming notable matches, upsets, etc... like a ticker onscreen or something.

It's almost 2k players- you GOTTA come up with a way to manage and track the happening and results real-time. Hope they keep that in mind while they pat themselves on the back about the numbers.

Did EVO ever release how much they make every year? I know the cost of the venue / equipment / staff must be insanely high but I'm impressed in the ways it keeps growing every year. Speaking of the staff.. I can't even imagine the logistics of trying to run this within 3 days. They'll go crazy and will probably need to relax with hookers and blow (good thing it's in Vegas).

As for premature speculation for EVO 2014:

187: Number of puns James Chen will try while UltraDavid rolls his eyes.

1: Number of US player making top 8.

164839: Number of Smash viewers who thinks Smash is better than sex.

9: Number of Smash players who've actually experienced sex other than their hand.

492 + homeless dude: Number of Injustice viewers who insist the game isn't dying even though MKX will rape their player base.

1: Number of Sanford Kellys shedding salty tears back in NY while his NLBC homies manage to roll over WNF after putting ruffies into Snake Eyez's drink.

8: Number of Japanese fanboys on EH who will need to be put on suicide watch if somehow a non Japanese wins EVO.

8: Number of Japanese fanboys who will also claim that EVO is far too random to be taken seriously and hidden masters from Japan can still beat up your dad.

9 Shots + 8 Beers: Number of drinks I'll take in my Salty Suite before I pass out and wake up with a dead hooker + tiger like the Hangover.

0 Number of opponents I expect to beat at Pools. Come at me brews!

Priceless: Number to describe what EVO 2014 will be like before I come back down to reality once I get back home.

You got best Hakan, Mizoteru Blanka, two of the best Juris, killer Yun Taiga, super Akuma -6, best Rufus Inco, AAA+ Machabo Fei, KOg, Acqua, etc. Not to mention China, the rest of Asia, Latif and NOx...

#65
Drfunk said on July 1, 2014 at 12:14 p.m.

Lot of rumors regarding Poongko. The only thing I'm fairly certain is that Poongko has had a gambling habit in the past. Not a hardcore problem but very impulsive considering his financial situation. He's sort of the Sanford Kelly of Korea.

The last straw came when he had a falling out with the CafeID owner over his finances. He tried to get himself to EVO via donations but when that fell through Drakefang announced all donations will be refunded.

Kinda sad to see a promising player just mentally broken over the fact that he couldn't beat Infiltration. Instead of trying to re dedicate himself and try to find a solution (like Gamerbee), he felt mostly discouraged and played pretty half ass the last few months.

Not surprised he's not coming to EVO, wouldn't be surprised if he retired from international competitions altogether.

People like Kayal (a top player) won't be attending evo for this reason for instance. As such the numbers aren't bad.

VerZioN said on July 1, 2014 at 5:02 p.m.

ever since I've watched EVO (which was in 2011) it's been increasing in number every year. One thing I think though is that eventually (if it keeps following the trend of increasing in entrants) it may be too much for a 3 day event, I haven't forgotten last year when they didn't even play SFxT top 8 on the big stage, I hope that every game gets its turn on the big stage this time 'round and that the games with the larger amount of entrants don't eclipse those with the smaller amount.

#92
xYomiLord420x said on July 1, 2014 at 5:36 p.m.

Has this been confirmed? I know TS and IPW usually stream Evo, but they do it on Evo's channels, which makes sense because they want the ad revenue and subscribers. I don't think CapcomFighters will be streaming this one.

#93
