WatchMojo makes a Top 10 crossover video game list, will your favorite fighting game crossovers make the cut?

Posted by Nicholas 'MajinTenshinhan' Taylor • January 26, 2014 at 10:13 a.m. PST

The good folks over at WatchMojo.com recently made a list of top 10 video game crossovers, and naturally, a fair share of fighting games are included.

But just what fighting games made the cut? And in what place? Find out by hitting the jump, and let us know in the comments if you feel as if there have been any omissions - or better yet, comment on WatchMojo's YouTube channel.

Do you agree with the list? Disagree? Let your opinion be known.

Thanks to mclos9 for sending this in.

That list is pretty on point

I'd agree with this. Except that was a big wrong-o on umvc3 being balanced. While it's more balanced that MvC2, we know how balanced and yet simultaneously broken UMvC3 can be. Still love the game though.

UMvC3 balanced? well more balanced than MvC2 but still got some broken stuff in it... still a fun game though, but MvC1 is my favorite of them.

That list sucks balls. TvC had right to be there alongside DOA5

A solid list but like any top 10, there's bound to be disappointment and this one is no exception.

WatchMojo is usually great with their top 10's but have done and said a few things that raised an eyebrow (No love for stands from JoJo's in top 10 anime powers? ;_;) but, their comic book origins series is great!

Also Battle Moon Wars was top notch

"MVC1 was balanced, but had a small roster. MVC2 had a huge roster, but was broken. UMVC3 fixes both of these." I lol'd, hahah. Sure UMVC3 is more balanced than the others, but it's still pretty broken IMO.

Anyway though, I wasn't expecting Smash to not be on there. Meanwhile, I was a bit surprised at Project X Zone making it, though I'm not discontent with it. This whole list is pretty agreeable for me though.

I don't get it. How is Pokemon Conquest a crossover game? A crossover between pseudo Japan history and Pokemon?

#13
wfallninja said on January 26, 2014 at 11:23 a.m.

Yeah and they have made some mistakes in the past as well. In their Top 10 Anime, #10 was Pokémon but they included a clip from the opening song for Digimon, but at least their mistakes bring up a chuckle. :3

The choices are interesting at times, but most didn't get me interested mostly for certain games. I definitely enjoy playing SNK games & used to played KOF Orochi Saga even played plenty of KOF XIII. I even was happy to see Project X Zone to be up there its a really fun RPG game with plenty of characters from Capcom, Namco, & Sega mostly enjoy the characters associated with Japanese Games such as Sakura Taisen (Sakura Wars) which I was surprised, I even liked Neneko from Yumeria she is a very cute character, & plenty of other female characters.

I also enjoy Sonic & All-Stars Racing series, I got a 360 ver. to play as Banjo-Kazooie & definitely like the characters, music options, & game itself. Danica Patrick made me question a little bit when was going to be playable guest character, heck the third party characters went nuts when the PC ver. started to add more characters. I wasn't too surprise to see Kingdom Hearts on the Top 10 list of Crossovers, but the gameplay was very solid, (wasn't too solid with KH RE: Chain of Memories, but pretty decent) I also like the original & Final Fantasy characters that appear in the game, I do am looking forward to Kingdom Hearts III.

"UMVC3 is more balanced" I wouldn't say is 100% at all, as much as the gameplay is solid at times but there were a lot of balance problems that would make you want to avoid online a lot. MVC3 can be balanced than the previous games, but however a lot of characters are unfairly balanced (meaning certain characters don't have a chance against the ones that are top tier) from Sentinel keep spamming neutralize with Doom assist with his heat seeking missiles, Phoenix's (Jean) health was very weak to the point she dies very quickly, and combos do nothing more than do so much damage to the point where you don't get a fair fight & it would lead to KOs because of death combos. Overall MVC is a good choice, but UMVC3 isn't 100% solid because of spam-friendly moves, certain characters with unfair advantages, & no limits on how combos the players can do which are the death combos.

For SSBB being the number 1 game, I almost had a feeling that I think SSBM is a better game than SSBB for gameplay-wise. SSBB is still a very good game.

I actually like PSASBR & SFXT better since they're pretty decent games, with each of their own flaws. But if these games get a sequel, improvements should be made that would make them as solid or one of the best.

@sarif2soon

I wouldn't expect that to appear since the crossover list are mostly non-fighters releated, & part of WatchMojo are almost like most of the mainstream medias from IGN, Gamespot etc.

But hey CvS2 is a pretty good choice for a Top 10 crossover game.

@TehViraL

I wouldn't expect a list everyone will agree to it is a mainstream choices & would leave out certain games we would like to see on the Top 10 spot. If there was a Top 10 Fighter Game Crossover, TVC & DOA5 would be a pretty good choices.

@Keldeo

From what I've remember that Mesal Gear Solid is a cross between Metal Gear & Ape Escape. This was mini-game for the PS2 called Snake vs Monkey which was from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, while Mesal Gear Solid is a mode from Ape Escape 3.

Go to the home page, look at the top bar of your window. What does it say?

"fighting game news, guides, streams, videos"

So this website is not limited to news.

I know. I feel sad here, too. Capcom vs Snk Series deserve it more than any of the Marvel vs Capcom Universe. Epic & Awesome Series.

FightDirty said on January 26, 2014 at 12:40 p.m.

RoboCop vs. Terminator might be a really cool movie, they should make it happen.

I love Project X Zone. It's a great crossover game. The plot is a bit convoluted but the character roster and gameplay is awesome. Plus, it takes over 60 hours to get through the story mode. How often do you get the chance to have the dream team of Morrigan, Juri & Chun-Li fighting together? Kreygasm!

Everyone knows that SFxT is the best crossover game ever. Kappa

They can make the game in 3D. They have a 3D of Samurai Shodown for the 360.

While I respect people's opinions on liking other games more than brawl, you can't argue the fact that with about 9,170,000 copies sold, it is by far the one of the most popular fighting games. Not the best one by any means, but the most popular.

It's missing DOA5 ultimate. Dead or alive, Ninja Gaiden and Virtua Fighter in one epic game.

iMTopTier said on January 26, 2014 at 7:38 p.m.

is DOA a crossover?

#40
Blackoshinomi said on January 26, 2014 at 8:13 p.m.

the Only person is ryu hayabusa ninja gaiden

The rest in doa5 Ultimate are guess characters that could be consider cross over

Pai Chan (Guest character) VF5
Sarah Bryant (Guest character) VF5
Akira Yuki (Guest character) VF5
Jacky Bryant - Guest character VF5
Momiji - Guest character Ninja Gaiden.
Rachel Guest character Ninja Gaiden

Ayane and Kasumi both appeared in Ninja Gaiden as Guest characters 2 too.

TrueGamingGuru said on January 26, 2014 at 9:22 p.m.

DOA does have its crossover elements since the first game, which Ryu Hayabusa came from Ninja Gaiden and he also appeared in DOA1. (AM2 Arcade, Saturn, PS1, DOA++ Arcade) Even certain DOA titles had a couple more Ninja Gaiden characters & others. (some NPC & some playable characters)

From Muramasa who is the old merchant from Ninja Gaiden which he appeared in DOA4 & DOA5 mostly in Story Mode Cut Scenes, Irene was mentioned from Ryu's backstory in DOA1 & she also appeared in DOA: Dimensions in the Chronicles Mode, & then DOA5 Ultimate included both Momiji & Rachel as playable characters.

Then there was the SPARTAN-458 which part of the Bungie did developed a concept of a Spartan not entirely connected with the Halo storyline, manage to fit Nicole in the DOA universe for DOA4. (Originally Team Ninja asked for Master Chief to be in DOA4, which would've been impossible due to Storyline restrictions.) Plus Samus & Ridley also appeared in DOA: Dimensions as Stage Hazards in a special stage based off Metroid Other M, and Rio who appeared in DOA Paradise for the PSP as a playable character & dealer for Black Jack. (which Rio came from Tecmo's Rio series of arcade games which had balls.)

Finally there was DOA5-DOA5 Ultimate Guest Characters from the Virtua Fighter series which included 3 (for DOA5 & DOA5+) and 1 extra. (DOA5U & DOA5AE)

Part of DOA crossover is sorta similar to the SF series (with the Final Fight characters been added) & similar to Soulcalibur. (for characters like SPARTAN-458/Nicole, Samus & Ridley, Rio, and VF characters) There were also some cameos based off other games from the Dynasty Warriors & Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z which are DLC costumes. (There is definitely an extra DOA5U costumes if you get Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z Special Edition currently available for Europe)

The biggest surprise for the on that list was AvP arcade making it in the list. Solid beat em up, enjoyed it at the arcades back then.

DarkPhoenixRises said on January 27, 2014 at 5:54 a.m.

Doa5 woudn't count since he clearly stated in the begining the focus would be on games where the emphasis and main focus is on the crossover...doa5 is about doa5 play the story mode and this is very apparent. They said guest characters and cameos didnt count... did some of u not listen to this?
