Alex Valle's random Rolento Ultra, Yipes takes out F Champ's Phoenix, and more - relive Capcom Cup 2013 with this hype montage

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • January 21, 2014 at 2:36 p.m. PST

Capcom Cup 2013 took place in December of last year, and pitted some of the best players around against each other in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken.

Capcom Fighters uploaded a montage featuring clips of the best moments from the event, and with this compilation, we get to relive the hype that took place at the end of last year.

LU|Alex Valle hitting EG|PR Balrog with a random wake up Ultra in the Ultra Street Fighter 4 exhibition, HORI|Sako's jump in light punch into forward medium kick kara demon set up on DM|Xian, and EMP|IFC Yipes sniping out coL|Filipino Champ's Phoenix, and sending him packing; it's all here.

We also get to see crowd / player reactions, and a few brief words from Capcom's Matt Dahlgren. Overall, this is a great montage that captures the essence of the Capcom Cup.

Hit the jump to check it out.

Yipes definitely brought the hype at Capcom Cup and proved he deserved to win the poll spot to be there!

So based on how Matt Dahlgren was talking about it, it sounded like Capcom Cup is gonna be an annual thing. I hope that's the case since the matches were all pretty hype and everyone that attended seemed to have a blast.

"It worked, f**k it!"

Its was great to see Capcom putting together an event like this. Nothing but killers putting on a performance for the fans. Respect to all that participated.

I kinda hope they keep it an 8 player Tournament instead of possibly expanding the field. Cause Capcom Cup was awesome.

Perhaps a 16 player tournament would be better, no? More players, more character variety, more matches, etc.
I think any bigger and it would be TOO much.

well this won't be called a major if they leave it at 8 players

i think they deserve a major anual tournament

Great video although I have to say I prefer the next Ultra Street Fighter 4 trailer with the "remaining" character reveal... please do it soon Capcom :).

this is one of the best montages i've ever seen. very well thought out and produced with the right music to make it seem so much more hype even though the music was calm as hell. the person who made this should be paid to handle all montages for major events because this was superb!!!!

Well for SSfIVAE2012 the players had to WIN a mayor just to get a seat. It's more like pinacle of events. Winning a mayor during the year gets you a spot at the final tournament of the year, I think this works well, they should leave it at 8 players.

My only wish is that they make it like Capcom Cup Asia. It was FT7 round robbin with deuce rules. It only had 6 players but it was the best SF4 I've ever seen. It took place over the course of 3 days but every match felt like an exhibition. If they did that with all of the Capcom Cup games, it might be the best tournament of the year. Capcom Cup just felt like any other top 8. And they shouldn't raise the player count. 8 players means you have to really fight for the chance to play in Capcom Cup. Every spot is earned.

You know, I was watching the Melbourne Open and was wondering if fighting games is watchable with such long matches. Are the people ready for such a scale? Of course, with feasibility being an issue the number of players and games would have to be sacrificed.
