Updated: This story has been updated with final results for all games present at the event.

It's that time of the year again. Apex 2014 is upon us, and being the biggest tournament in the world for all Super Smash Bros. titles, you can count on some heavy Nintendo action this weekend.

In case Super Smash Bros. isn't your cup of tea, there's no need to worry. Besides Super Smash Bros. 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl as well as the fan-made Project M, games such as Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition v2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, King of Fighters 13, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and many more are being featured as well.

Practically every Super Smash Bros. player worth of note is attending this event, and being on the East Coast you can count on several heavy hitters outside of Smash showing up for the other games as well. Streaming duties will be handled by Team Spooky, CLASHtournaments, 8WAYRUN and Bifuteki.

Hit the jump to check out the livestreams as well as battle logs and early results, being updated as they happen.

#5
MajinTenshinhan said on January 17, 2014 at 9:14 a.m.

Armada is participating in teams, but not singles.

As for Wobbles, I'm not sure. He's participating in the USA vs. World event, but not sure if he's participating in the main tournament as well.

#12
oghaggard said on January 17, 2014 at 2:56 p.m.

No offense to Smash. It's a legit competitive game. But it's a world away from Street Fighter or Tekken.

#13
Dias4Flac said on January 17, 2014 at 3:04 p.m.

So will there be any sf4 or is this mainly smash?

#14

Liking Project M. Nice to see various chars being used instead of all MK's or Foxes lol.

Considering a lot of ppl are asking if sf4 will be streamed id say a lot of ppl care about the game. I love playing smash bros but watching it for me isnt entertaining for some reason

#21
nusense said on January 17, 2014 at 5:27 p.m.

Considering Apex is mainly a smash event, Sf\marvel is irrelevant. Shoot this is coming from a guy who never ever played a smash a game before. I just don't like the fgc mind set, where if it's not the game you play let's crap on it....

#22
TheLaw said on January 17, 2014 at 11:39 p.m.

I did... FGC Side Events doesn't quite help me here lol

Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter 1
Supwer Street Fighter 2 ST
Street Fighter 3 Third Strike
Ultra Street Fighter 4
Street Fighter EX

That kind of happened with SF 25th Anniversary.

EX not being there makes sense since Capcom doesn't own 1/2 the roster. I don't know why Alpha wasn't there.

AugustAPC said on January 18, 2014 at 7:02 p.m.

KI is so great. I'm still stunned that Double Helix made such a sick game in such a short time, even if it is short on content. Man... if only this game had some more time in the oven, it'd be even more fun to watch. Lack of characters kinda makes it a bit monotonous to watch. Still totally enjoying it, though.

I hope that Season 2 gets locked in soon. This is just too good of a game to not see get the support it deserves.

Lol where's EMP at huh? Let's see. How many tournaments has the Empire won at Apex.

1. Smash 64 - NO
2. Injustice - DENIED
3. Blazblue - LolNOPE
4. Guilty Gear - Get out
5. Project M - Okay sure but Armada quit Melee singles so nobody cares
6. Kof13 - LOL

All that remains is Street Fighter, Killer Instinct, Mahvel, Melee, and Brawl. The only one I can see happening is M2K winning Brawl. And like everyone hates brawl. And maybe Flocker in Marvel but Chris G is still in and Chris G is much more badass then Flocker. Now that I think about it it's kinda funny how Chris G and Flocker's main characters are extremely lame in different ways.

Seems you missed the point that Apex is primarily a SMASH event, originally made and run entirely by the Smash community.

#60
iMTopTier said on January 19, 2014 at 3:03 a.m.

still just have 1 stream for all your games
there's a ton of other games like BBC, GG,KI and whatever
if it is just a SSB tournament don't be saying that there's going to be other games

#61
DRain said on January 19, 2014 at 3:05 a.m.

But there WERE other games, and they were being streamed by Team Spooky. Just that, since it's primarily a Smash event, it would make sense to dedicate most streams to Smash.

#62
okay said on January 19, 2014 at 5:30 a.m.

Bifuteki streamed Street Fighter and Marvel.
8wayRun streamed Marvel and Killer Instinct.
sp00ky streamed Injustice, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and King of Fighters.
CT streamed only Smash Bros.

If anyone saw only SB on the streams, it's probably because they tuned in after the KI and KOF finals were already over.

#63

He's doing great. He won Project M. Mew2King is top 8 winners in Melee and Brawl so we have a great chance there. Mew2King won Brawl teams late last night. Dieminion, Sanford and Tampa Bison are in winners of SF4 top 8. NuckleDu is top 8 losers. Also Flocker as top 8 winners in Marvel. Let's see how EMP closes out APEX

EMP_FecalMatter said on January 19, 2014 at 7:23 a.m.

from what i understand, KI was a side tourney that was added in at the last second. also there wasnt any plans at streaming it either. top it off with the fact not many ppl have an xbox 1 at the moment you're guaranteed to have a small turn out. as more ppl get the new xbox, more players will attend KI tournies. from every person that i have spoken to who has played it has enjoyed it a lot, even ppl who were sceptical at first. this to me tells me that KI isn't going anywhere any time soon.

anyway, this is a Smash thread so lets show respect to the Smash community and try to focus on Smash ;)

Also winning one or two majors in a year or two year span is nothing to be proud of. You make way more money at McDonald. "Only a sucker works a 9 to 5".........You never get rich or retire off fighting games. At Sanford age, I hope he at least has a degree or some kind of certification as a back up plan. Hoping fgc goes esports is not guaranteed.

Dumb question... Wasn't Meta Knight banned in tournament at some point, or was it my imagination? If he was banned in the past, what changed to re-allow him?

#89
SirRetro08 said on January 19, 2014 at 3:17 p.m.

He was banned for about four months. The thing was that at the time, ppl overlooked the few disadvantages (though he still has superior advantages) and decided he was broken. The reason it was reversed is because they decided to allow various TO's to make decisions. Plus, the organization disbanded. So, basically, TO's can chose to ban MetaKnight or not, but since so many ppl use him and further researches and matches revealing some flaws, he's allowed. Still, he's rather placed in his own tier.

Props to Eventhubs for headlining Smash Bros. Even though there were big name Capcom players at the event, along with Ae and Marvel, you still kept the focus on Smash. I know its just a little detail, but its nice is all I want to say. One step closer to bringing the various communities together, with a sense of equality.
