MadKOF goes completely zen - uses random select in a first-to-10 against Xiao Hai in King of Fighters 13, don't miss this exciting set

Posted by Nicholas 'MajinTenshinhan' Taylor • January 16, 2014 at 10:31 a.m. PST

King of Fighters 13 EVO 2012 winner and EVO 2013 3rd placer CafeID|MadKOF is not what one would call a "jack of all trades", but rather a "master of all traders" when it comes to his game of choice.

If you don't believe me, check out this video where he goes up against Qanba|Xiao Hai in a first-to-10 and resorts to... random select?!

Hit the jump to see this exciting set, split up into two parts, between these two top players.

These videos come courtesy of Gato ray's YouTube channel.

Yep, Yep! That's how it should be done. RANDOM all the way.
I wish when having chosen random select in SF games, choosing rematch should then give us another random character.

It should be that way for any fighter with a rematch and random feature.

More people need to random select (seriously, not for collusion) in torny's.
Mastery of the entire game rather than mastery of a small subsection.

You don't challenge a guy like this. KOF13 is his turf.

KoF13 and many other KoF games are Xiao Hai's turf also, just MadKof is the big dog of KoF13 over there i guess

KoF98 was played on this event too? The icon is under the XIII one.
If so, is there any videos of the matches?

Exactly and why the game kicks behind. You can always win as long as your skills do the job.

when I was growing up it was not uncommon for random select to be used very often if not all night. I dont know if I agree it should be used in tourneys, but it is a great way to learn a game inside and out.

people are so spoiled nowaydays. forgetting to have fun

You have to consider the fact that many KOF players often master a wide variety of characters on top of familiarizing themselves with the entire cast in order to gain a complete understanding of the game. So this is more of a testament to MadKOF's skills rather than simply a YOLO-Random set. Good stuff!

Xiaohai is King of KOF 98 and double OCVed MadKOF, this set was just MadKOF returning the favor.

if only this game was a little slower less rushdown, more tactical like Street Fitgher, it would have been perfect

long combos are not cool ... not cool at all

The fast gameplay of KOF is what makes it KOF. It's certainly not for everyone which I could say the same for SF.

That would make the game boring, you have to use the same type of mind games and strategy as you would in SF, but at an extremely fast paste which makes it much more difficult.

KoF is every bit as tactical as Street Fighter, it's just that the tempo is turned way up. I think it's super cool. Reminds me of Hyper Fighting on the SNES with that secret code that let you crank the Turbo Speed all the way up to 10 stars.

I never understood this idea that "slow and defensive" makes a game strategic. I mean people *think* you're being more strategic by sitting there and holding down-back, but that doesn't make it so. There's smart defense and offense and dumb defense and offense.
