The Jyobin Nike sponsor bit killed me

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 9:22 a.m.

Looking at Ryu ability to ultra into a lot of stuff with U1 & U2, makes me kinda sad. Cause Guy don't have a lot of options with his Ultras and all he got is his corner Ultra... which his other U2, people can easily just jump out of, even if you set them up for it.

Capcom make Guy's U2 more like Zangief & T.hawks, when it comes to actually grabbing people when you active the Ultra. Thanks

Ryu's Metsu Shoryuken is so glorious, I wish more people used it...

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 11:44 a.m.

Yeah, it does look sweet.

Baby_Astaroth said on January 14, 2014 at 11:48 a.m.

This was definitely one of the better episodes. It's been awhile since I've truly enjoyed one of these.

Serk said on January 14, 2014 at 11:50 a.m.

I agree with you Wardog as an avid guy player I'm tired of people ducking my Ultra 2. :/

sarif2soon said on January 14, 2014 at 11:53 a.m.

4 ways of comboing are essentially the same as previous ones, but I was really surprised that there were so many ways to combo into Ultra. (even though I've seen about 29/30 before)

Keldeo said on January 14, 2014 at 12:20 p.m.

That GoT theme remix is poison to the ears.

Garcian_Ulmeyda said on January 14, 2014 at 1:11 p.m.

See folks, this is why people should be fluent in English and not "talk good" because things like commas can make all the difference.

Garcian_Ulmeyda said on January 14, 2014 at 1:13 p.m.

My favorite part about that Ryu's U2 is when the sound goes out. When you get hit really hard it's just like that.

sarif2soon said on January 14, 2014 at 2:08 p.m.

I'd never rule out Nike actually sponsoring Jyobin.
If a guy like L.I. Joe could get Brazzers...

Existent said on January 14, 2014 at 2:29 p.m.

No way. You can't give a character with mobility like that an instant grab, even if the damage was reduced. 1+1 ultras don't have the same application as 0+1's. They have different purposes and reasons for being used.

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 2:37 p.m.

I like that

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 3:01 p.m.

I just want the move to actually grab them, when I set them up.

I hate when it whiff and they just jump up out of it, then when you got somebody like T.hawk who can grab you when about to jump away (early jump), then the animation freeze you and then he grab you. Why guy can't get something like that? At least grab the person.

I can understand why T.hawk & Zangief should do more damage, cause they are a power house which makes up for their slow movement. But I just want Guy U2 to connect when they get setup for it. If I remember correctly didn't Capcom give E.Honda more range on his U2? I think they did... but Guy didn't get it though, so this guy (no pun intended) need some love with his U2.

Also they need to fix some of his moves cause they still whiff.

Existent said on January 14, 2014 at 3:06 p.m.

You're not supposed to be able to use a setup that grabs them in the way you're implying. Guy's U2 is for punishing various things that would otherwise be unpunishable, an occasional wakeup option, and beating 4 frame safejumps. It is -not- meant to be used like Zangief's

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 3:33 p.m.

I don't want it to be like Zangief... I'm just saying that their ultra can still grab you when you about to jump out the way or back dash. When Guy about to do his U2, even when they get up they can still jump up out the way or back dash (cause of its short rang) and like the other guy had posted, they can even duck it.

I'm sorry but what you said about Guy shouldn't be able to setup his U2, the way implying. Sounds silly.

If I knock down my opponent and I set him up with the elbow drop to a U2 while he's still blocking... I should have grab them already. Then you got one scenario when they get up and you about to do a U2, animation already started but somehow my hand went threw that person body and they was already late with their jump, but somehow they can still jump out of it. Explain that?

Yet T.hawk and Zangief can still can get their grab off, even if the person did jump out the way early or coming up from a wake up.

Existent said on January 14, 2014 at 3:47 p.m.

I really don't understand the situations you're describing. What do you mean by "they can still grab you when you're about to jump". Are you talking about pre-jump frames? Because they're not throwable by any ground throws. Then you're saying that when they wake up, U2 misses? And as for ducking it, that's completely impossible. You can't crouch any throws except Guy's Bushin flip, and Hakan's Dive. I don't know where you're getting that from or why you believe it but it's completely false. You can't "duck" a throw like you can in VF. I honestly don't know where to go if you believe that.
The only thing I'm gleaming from you is that you don't believe that U2 should be escapable on reaction, and it needs to be. The only way these set ups of yours would work is if it wasn't jumpable, and that would be noticeably broken.

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 4 p.m.

It's like this... picture you fighting Cody(let's use him) and you knock him down and when he gets up, you time your elbow drop and he has no other choice than to block which leaves him open (cause he's still in a block animation) and you do your U2 (not to early or to late)... the U2 animation finish and you hand go threw that person body then they jump, after they got done blocking. Try it next time when you play online.

There's a reason why not many guy players choose that Ultra. It just whiffs

Existent said on January 14, 2014 at 4:08 p.m.

That's not how the mechanics of SF4 work. You can't be thrown during blockstun, if you could, most characters would have inescapable throws. I hope I don't need to explain why that would be broken.

If Cody is blocking the elbow, you use U2 when you land, and it misses, it's because you tried to do it during blockstun. If he jumps after the Ultra freeze, it's because he didn't do anything and was able to jump it after he saw the freeze, which is what he should be able to do.

Let me repeat. You cannot be thrown during blockstun. By anything.

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 4:15 p.m.

That might not be true. Even though it whiffs a lot... sometimes it does works, so I can't be hallucinating about it. So I don't know what to tell you.

Plus I know the difference when the person is about to jump when I was about to active my ultra and then when he was just standing there for a sec, before jumping late.

Be honest, which ultra do you use the most?

Existent said on January 14, 2014 at 4:24 p.m.

It's true.

You absolutely.
Can not.
Be thrown.
In blockstun.

If you grab someone with it, it's either a guaranteed punish, or they threw out an attack.

I use U2 for most matchups. It gives me more options most of the time.

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 4:39 p.m.

Well, I guess you're right.

I guess I have to figure out different ways, with that Ultra. Its my

what do you use for your U2?

Thanks for the discussion.

Existent said on January 14, 2014 at 4:41 p.m.

I'll list some uses for U2 for reference.

Punishing opponents' reversals when FADC'd forward. (Most are at least -1)
Punishing Gen's walldive.
Punishing Adon's ground jaguar kicks and non-EX jaguar tooth.
Punishing all of Zangief's Green Hands on block and non-EX on hit.
Punishing most characters' projectiles after focusing dashing through them.
Occasionally using it after a level 2 focus, if it's delayed. (If it's not delayed it will be done during blockstun)
A potential wakeup option against certain characters who aren't likely to jump in.

I wish I knew what game it was too looks pretty cool

Wardog said on January 14, 2014 at 4:49 p.m.

OK, thanks for the info. Especially the Zangief one... it always feels like a one sided battle especially when this guy can grab you from a far way. I just keep my distance with him and T.hawk

That projectile one also grab my interest, cause I always fighting those players who like to quickly mash DP out, after their projectile. So keep my distance with them and try to bait them out.

Again, thanks for the info.

Existent said on January 14, 2014 at 4:50 p.m.

No problem. Keep at it.

A one second search on google can find you most answers

CodeValentineX said on January 14, 2014 at 10:39 p.m.

Hmm.. I'm not a huge Ryu player/fan at all but damn, those ultra setups were just glorious! Not to mention, the Metsu ultra cinematic is one the best looking in the entire game, alongside Gens Teiga and my girl Vipers Burning Dance.

Lawl at the 4 combo breakers. Get reckt Rico Sauve.
