First official poster for Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist is a nod to SF Alpha artwork

The first official poster for Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist was recently released, and it prominently features Ryu and Ken.

If you look at the poses, shot and everything else, you'll probably be reminded of something, say like artwork from first Street Fighter Alpha (Zero), which we've added on the right hand side.

This is a really awesome homage, which honors the series and looks cool while doing so.

Hmmm... why does Ken have "all that" hair, it's like a ponytail? His hair should be short right? If I'm wrong someone correct me, please???

really? this was supposed to be in production at when i was at SDCC two years ago. was excited when i first heard about it, but i'm iffy on it now. I think they need to stop with these live action series. I didn't like MK Legacy season 2.

Nexiszero said on January 1, 2014 at 2:30 p.m.

When Ken was younger he had longer hair.

Wardog said on January 1, 2014 at 2:32 p.m.

Alpha series. This is when they were young before they change a bit. Ken had long hair and had the red headband on his hair before giving it to Ryu in the future.

Ohhh that's right... Thanks Wardog & Nexiszero.

Man,watching them posters side to side gives such a nostalgia rush!

When SFA rolled around to my local arcade,it became my real SF game to play competitively in an arcade setting(I still played SSF2 Turbo and such....but,for the life of me,I could not play fgs on arcade for a while.I froze whenever people huddled around me to watch me play...V_V)

Alpha Ken Masters (younger days) had long hair. Hence, the SFA artwork next to the picture, bruh.

That's no excuse - I wasn't born in the 50's and 60's, But I know of John Coltrane and James Brown's music. And I needed no influence from an older individual. It's called "research"

Madenka said on January 1, 2014 at 4:31 p.m.

Who researches dead games? lol.

The picture is sick, very nice professional feel.

GenSoHotSpicy said on January 1, 2014 at 4:37 p.m.

Looks spot on. Alpha has always been my favorite installment of the Street Fighter series and the only iteration in which I don't loathe the two poster boys mostly because of their slimmer and more youthful appearances and Ken's gorgeous long hair.

Who is behind then? Gouken, right?

they couldn't get ken a better wig?

othewise, dope. i respect them for the homage

#23
SendTriumph2Evo said on January 1, 2014 at 5:05 p.m.

the fgc gets on my nerves with this "09'er" bs like its a slurr. this is probably one of the only communities in the world that mocks and frowns upon newcommers. I remember 2000-08 and if it wasn't for "09'ers" or 10'ers, 11'ers etc, how do you expect the fgc to grow?

SendTriumph2Evo said on January 1, 2014 at 5:06 p.m.

IMO, the best live action streetfighter/type choreography to date has been the Thousand Pounds studio with the Ultra Combo videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR5wXr...

DemonDethchase said on January 1, 2014 at 5:20 p.m.

I dunno man, I don't think the wig looks that bad. Especially when you compare it the old Thousand Pounds Street Fighter flick Beginnings End. Now while the movie itself was good the Alpha Ken wig was awful! It was as bad as the movie was good

I can't wait to check this out when it hits.
Ryu needs to get on Kens level though to match the artwork. Looking a little round in the arms when compared to Ken.

The Thousand Pounds Street Fighter X Tekken video was a true master piece. They even got Ken's voice/motion capture actor from SFIV to play Ken. I still have high hopes for Assassin's Fist but I'd be more stoked if Thousand Pounds was behind this.

My only complaint about this is their choice to use wigs. Everything looks good visually and translated well into live action outside of that. Why didn't the Ken actor grow out his hair to a length where he could at least put in extensions. A full wig just makes him look like a clown. Akuma/Gouki will look even more like a clown if they use a wig after his decent into the dark hadou. Gouki hair isn't even long, they can just dye it dark red and put it in a high ponytail. The length of Gouki hair as seen in that other picture before consumed by the dark hadou is just right.

Now we have to wait and see if the fighting choreography is good.

kjra92 said on January 1, 2014 at 6:58 p.m.

Ken was never a natural blonde to begin with. Some people still tend to forget that his eyebrows are dark brown, which really leads to question his real hair color. So, the use of a wig would make more sense.

I believe the reason why 'Christian Howard (Ken)' didn't grow out his hair is because of the lack of time and schedule, plus also starring in 2 british films starring 'Scott Adkins' and 'Van Damme', where he has short hair.

Spoken like a true dumbass. Its people like you that stifle the growth of the community "Oh, you wish to be educated on the FGs of old? Here, lemme shyt on you instead."

He's here on a FGC website. People act like it hurts them to just let somebody know something. What reason is there to insult someone that wants to learn about one of the things you love most? Instead, folks happier to insult a dude like their video game knowledge makes them superior. Fvckin idiots.

lukecage83 said on January 1, 2014 at 7:44 p.m.

Anyone who truly cares for Street Fighter - That's who would research it, smart ass! They would want to learn everything about everything concerning SF. From it's point of origin, to it's current state - "dead games" or otherwise!

And my point was more against people using the "I wasn't born in that time" to justify their lack of knowledge. For instance, I asked a friend one day...

"You ever seen Black Belt Jones? It's a blaxploitation movie from the 70's"

His reply was...

"Man do I look like I was born in the 70's? How am I supposed to know about that?"

I'm like "NIGGA I WASN'T BORN IN THE 70's EITHER!"

I just think that reasoning is stupid as FUK!!!

I'm not gonna lie here. I got a RUSH from seeing this poster. It looks AMAZING. I'm going to be so sad if it doesn't do the series justice.

Legend of Chun-Li was a f*cking disgrace... and if this one doesn't live up to how good it looks, I doubt I'll be able to be hyped for any Street Fighter cinema to come after.

Right now I'm stoked, though! They f*cking NAILED that poster. I hope the rest of the series retains that integrity.

xShonuffx said on January 1, 2014 at 11:33 p.m.

That is beside the point. He could have simply told him without getting snarky and uppity about it. Research is great for self enlightenment but these are forums and discussion boards designed for having conversations and asking questions, he simply could have said "The younger Ken had longer hair" like the others said and be done with it. If he wanted to research afterwards then that's up to him. I called him out on it and I don't think I'm alone for doing it either. Lets stop treating newcomers to the FGC as second class citizens ok?

Neobrown said on January 2, 2014 at 1:30 a.m.

It was more a joke tbh. However no matter what time you started playing street fighter, how can you be a real fan and not know the characters history.... All the old games and cartoons are still pretty relevant

people starting a flame war because a guy asked why Ken has long hair, people saying that he should resarch everything of SF and BS because he may be a 09er.....but, have you realize that HE IS DOING A RESEARCH BY JUST ASKING WHY HE HAS LONG HAIR???, he is not a soothsayer, if he don't know something he need to ask somebody or search it on some website, well, this is a website, and he is asking, so knock it off

we really need a new fighting game

World Heroes?
2D Samurai Showdown?
Mark of the Wolves?

New World Heroes. Bison/Dhalsim amalgam guy always tickled me, as did football player guy, as I haven't played one since I was about 10 lol never knew names.

Gotta love that Alpha cover! It was the best cover for ANY SF game ever. As for Ken being "bigger" than Ryu, don't forget he's half Japanese half American (his dad married a Japanese woman). But according to Capcom, Ken is a natural athlete. That's why he rather spend his time on the beach with Eliza than training like Ryu. Good looking, cocky, and rich. We all want to be Ken. :)
