Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • March 4, 2014 at 1:34 p.m. PST

Updated: Results and battle logs for Fight Night season 2 can be found in this story.

ESGN TV returns today with season 2 of their Fight Night Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 series. Last season, we witnessed a slew of great bouts, and you can check out all of the results here.

This time around, 8 competitors will once again be taking place in numerous first-to-seven sets, and the match ups will be decided by the spin of a wheel. Infiltration (season 1 winner), RZR|Xian, Ryan Hart, and BCN|Alioune will be returning from the first season. Newcomers EMP|Sanford Kelly, Laugh, CCG|Chi-Rithy, and FNEX|K-Brad will be joining in on the fight as well.

Much like last season, we here at EventHubs will provide live results, so be sure to follow along with us to catch all of the action.

Slightly better than season 1 especially with Gootecks and mike on the mic but just hope season 3 will have more character variety.

Thumbs up for the commentating duo this time around.

Did they ever elaborate on how they go about choosing the contenders?

Also! This wheel thingy. Can a player go without fighting until Round 7 and just pocket $25,000?

#18

You have to defeat all the opponents in order to win the 25k.
Infiltration didn't get to play all season 1, except for the last match. He beat Tokido and won 250 bucks.

Great start to Season 2. Better commentary and that aftershow was awesome. Super Divekick Fighter.

#19
SAMURAI said on February 24, 2014 at 2 p.m.

Infiltration, but he only won against Tokido which was the last fight of the season. So he has to get a winning streak this season to win the money.

They said during the stream that it would be uploaded tomorrow on ESGN's VOD service.

Seems that the response to season 2 has been overwhelmingly positive and the changes have really been on-point. I definitely agree with that. Good showing!

Sanford has been on the end of a few righteous boppings lately but getting out there and playing the best is the only way to improve. Same for Ryan Hart/ whoever wants to be at the top. Seek out the Japanese/ Xian/ Infiltration/ Xiao Hai/ GamerBee and see what's what.

During the post fight interview with Infiltration: "Sanford needs to practice his Oni..."

Infiltration's Oni IS on another level. Sanford won Apex 2014 with Oni mostly because people in the US still aren't familiar with the matchup, although Winter Brawl 8 shows that is changing already.

#39

They get to come back cuz they're close and willing and two of the best in EU. I can dig it. In fact, my guess is the last man standing will be one of those two. Xian seems to have issues with Cammy.

Btw, I was hoping to see that Sanford-RyanHart runback though.

#42
ltalia90 said on February 24, 2014 at 11:16 p.m.

Ryan Hart. That's what he was going for.

I doubt he would have respun on Chi-Rithy, either. His Ryu would be too much for Rithy's Cammy in a long set.

Sucks for him that he got Alioune for his third opponent. Absolute nightmare.

On that note, don't be selfish and post spoilers for matches that haven't "happened" yet.

Overall, pretty good. Commentary still bugs me though. I dont understand why this is supposed to be better. No play by play, no analysis or theory, just giggles and hyuck hyucks. I know that gootecks/mike have a ton of fans, but how about doing more than giggling like a couple of teenage girls. At least with tasteless there gootecks did more explaining. Commentary aside, the rest of the show seems to have gotten better.

#55
JimmyLoves said on February 25, 2014 at 12:32 p.m.

Can they PLEASE get someone on commentary that has even a slight knowledge of the characters and matchups? We all know from watching the gootecks/mike shows that neither of these guys know anything regarding characters other than rose, rog, and honda. Mike has a good honda and would be great for commentating a Honda match. Any time these guys use a character other than honda they get bodied....... by 1000PP players online, over and over again.

Maybe if I was 14 again this commentary would be entertaining. Gootecks' idea of commentary is telling us what the score is, and saying "this is not good", "oh man". Not one thing about the match/moveset/frame data etc....

Wow, Alioune vs Infitration - Great Match!

Gootecks and Mike on the mic is the worst thing that could happen to this show. Seriously, the most annoying commentary of any FGC related event ever. Grown men acting like 12 year old girls.

Best commentary was by Ryan Hart and Laugh. They should have used those guys on the mics. Please let Ryan commentate, the guy really knows his stuff and he's well spoken.

This show has so much potential; so it's kind of sad that it's so aggravating to watch.

aflashlight said on February 25, 2014 at 1:48 p.m.

Even though hardcore FGC fans may not appreciate the commentary, I for one enjoyed it a lot. I don't play SF but I am a fan and frame data such things don't concern me.

I'm sure if you're hardcore enough you either already know the frame data or can do research on your own. This show is bringing entertainment to casual fans like myself, yes the hardcore fans don't like it but the more important thing is to promote SF to the world.

Always discussing plinking, minus on block after something, fuzzy guard, FADC, unblockables, hard to block mix-ups, option selects is just going to flood newcomers with unnecessary and overwhelming knowledge.

No sports commentary go to in depth analysis mode often, a baseball commentator would not start lecturing viewers on how to hold the ball to throw a slider or at what instant the pitcher must snap his wrist to control the rotation, so why should us if we just want to bring simple wholesome entertainment to more people?

#71
Green016 said on February 25, 2014 at 1:53 p.m.

The commentary was really bad, agreed. At first it was tolerable but it just got more and more annoying as the show went on. If they wanna grow the scene and educate people about SF shouldn't they have people who actually know the game and can break down the action? It really makes no sense to me.

Also what the f*** are they thinking having 3 Cammy players here? That character is the definition of brain dead and is a great way of turning people away from watching. Once again another way of alienating the noobs or casual SF fan. Show a variety of characters and try to bring more people in but instead they do the complete opposite. Seriously, this show can be so much better but it's just not run right and it's actually really sub par.

spman2099 said on February 25, 2014 at 3:37 p.m.

I think Mike Ross and Gooteks are hilarious; that being said, they need to find a balance. They were WAY too silly this time around. That stuff is great on Excellent Adventures, and it would be nice to sprinkle some of that in, but you also need to commentate. Still, this was a pretty interesting watch. I like the direction ESGN is going with this show. Just keep ironing out the wrinkles and we will eventually have something special.

Only beef I got with season two is too many Cammy players. For future games I would like to see each of the eight players have a different main character. Not hating on Cammy. just a variety would be nice.

season 3 wish list

1. winner of season 2
2. Daigo
3. Bonchan
4. Gagapa
5. Justin Wong
6. PR Balrog
7. Sako
8. Problem X

I think a roster like that would show a lot of variety in play style and character variety

#84
yes4me said on February 25, 2014 at 4:57 p.m.

I think the format of this show is all off.

1. Spin the wheel to pick randomly 12 different characters you may see in the next serie. And then find top players for 8 of these characters. This gives more flexibility in case you have a hard time to find top players.
2. 4 teams are randomly made up.
3: round robin style where each team play against all other teams.
4. 7 sets is too long, and get boring. 5 sets please!
5. Make all the games in 1-2 days but stream the entire shows over multiple days (to make more money).

#85
ltalia90 said on February 25, 2014 at 6:19 p.m.

Way too convoluted.
