Maybe these exhibitions tell something about the skill of American players for all the people (and websites *cough*) who overrate them based on some (mostly local) ft2 tournament results

#34
ltalia90 said on February 22, 2014 at 8:10 p.m.

Nothing personal against this Zeus guy, but does anybody know why he was chosen specifically for the exhibition? I doubt they have any history and Gamerbee is leagues above him in terms of ability. Seemed strange but kudos to Zeus for at least stepping up there.

Sanford didn't fare too much better but Gamerbee is at that elite level so not too surprising.

Enjoying the tournament so far, good stuff!

#35
battlesong said on February 22, 2014 at 8:31 p.m.

I don't know the answer for sure why Zeus was chosen for the exhibition, but if I had to guess it'd be because:
1) Zeus is the best Vega player in the US right now (possibly the world) and Vega is an underused character. Zeus's Vega is fun to watch.
2) He recently won Defend the North, a major featuring some of the best players the US has to offer (including Dieminion, KBrad, Sanford, etc) so he's probably considered the best right now, at least on the east coast. and since this is an east coast tourney, they probably wanted him to represent against the international presence.

I'm looking forward to a possible kevin/bruce matchup. It's a bad match for guile, but kevin won in sf25th:

#38
spotlesseden said on February 22, 2014 at 8:50 p.m.

i thought we agreed that Defend the North is a regional tournament. West Coast didn't even show up on that tournament. Best in the East Coast or in US was never consider to be the best in the world. Chris King did much better in international tournament and major than Zeus.

Chris King was like 17th at evo. And nobody knows Reiketsu because he only plays in Japan.

JWong was the big winner, not gamerbee, unless Jwong shares some of his profit with gamerbee. lol

#39
ShinzoBishamon said on February 22, 2014 at 8:51 p.m.

I agree Zeus has an amazing Vega, but I think Chris King from Socal has a much better Vega

ltalia90 said on February 22, 2014 at 8:52 p.m.

Ah, ty. I wasn't aware of Zeus' recent success.

Good experience for him eitherway.

#41
Smorgasboard said on February 22, 2014 at 11:04 p.m.

East coast probably thought that they could beat Gamerbee by throwing unfamiliar match ups at him. Sadly, they themselves are not as good with the Adon match up or even on Gamerbee's level.

Or a more boring reason is that Avermedia wanted to showcase their player and they just picked their two most recent tournament winner. #yawn

#42
andyknigth said on February 22, 2014 at 11:32 p.m.

They got destroyed, but would this have happened to Wao considering that it is Oni Gamerbee took down? Just saying player skills matter a lot, we cant be talking about knowing match ups thats why there are things like adapting, which is better in long sets so if truly you got the skills and execution you make the other person play your game!

AVM|GamerBee (Adon)   — ● ● ● ● ○ ● 5
EMP|Sanford Kelly (Oni) — ○ ○ ○ ○ ● ○ 1

That's what happens when Sanford has to play a top international player. So many people here hyped him up for no reason...same with Oni...
Remember: just because these guys (Zeus, Sanford) won some local tournaments doesn't mean they're "among the best players in the world" lol

So when can we expect more exhibition matches?!

I'd like to see the following First to 20 matches:

Daigo vs Justin Wong - FT20
Daigo vs PR Rog - FT20

I can't believe that in over 5 years of SF4 this hasn't happened yet?

I guess in the meantime Wao and Michael Tan at SCR will have to do!

#47
deus said on February 23, 2014 at 5:14 a.m.

what's wrong with hyping someone up that has the potential to compete with international players on their level? you do realise that Gamerbee is not just any top player but probably has the best Adon in the world n probably in the top 10 best SF4 players in the world. Only a few players can put a stop to him n they either use vortex shotos or its Daigo. Sanford brings the hype n There's no doubt about that. The fgc enjoy it. The matches he had against pr rog n jwong were awesome. Personally, I enjoy the entertainment n I think having exhibition matches n hype characters in the fgc make us a unique bunch of people. You don't see this kind of entertainment in other video games n this just makes the majors more interesting.

Until this day, why people dick ride Asian players soooooo hard. Even in games that they get bodied in like marvel, it's extremely annoying. Yes Asia is the best region for sf4 right now, but no it hasn't always been free. Both Europe, America, and the Middle East have defended their home turf on several occasions in many different games. Tekken, kof, street fighter you name it. Sanford and Zues got outclassed by gamerbee, gamerbee is an amazing player, but he's gotten bopped before like anyone else. Sanford is still a world class player, and the tournament isn't over yet.

#52
spotlesseden said on February 23, 2014 at 7:28 a.m.

Defend home turf doesn't mean anything. You have to win in other people's home turf. People hype Asian players because they can win outside of their country. Yeah, they won mvc3 majors in US, too.

Gamerbee is a great player, even him didn't won all his money matches last night because nobody can win 100% of the time.

Being the best in the US street fighter player is like being the best US football player. And I don't mean American football. It really doesn't make you world class. Something more players would realise if they traveled out more. Just ask Dieminion when he traveled to Japan.

On the other hand, plenty of non-US players have travelled the world and played against the best the rest of the world has to offer and won. They don't need fake Hype.

And prop for UMvsC3, Punisher and Huoshen have/had a good placement.

I love how arturo being overly sensitive about "eventhubs monster" for overhyping gamerbee instead of his homies only to be proven wrong (gamerbee lose the tourney), not counting the fact that people from the internet might come from different place than New York.

Listen art, each one of us has a biased opinion on which player we are going to root. If you say east coast player > rest of the world, fine. That's your own opinion. I and any other person in here have their own favorite players to root for.

Now if you want to grab a MAJORITY opinion that east coast player is better than the rest of the world, then try to do it at EVO, let see if they can win USF4.

#95
r0my5 said on February 23, 2014 at 6:50 p.m.

Dieminion's Guile play is so beautiful to watch

#96
SgtKonus said on February 23, 2014 at 6:51 p.m.

I don't see anyone arguing that Dieminion isn't the best Guile on the planet, which makes sense since even the Japanese said he was :).

#97
Dodoria said on February 23, 2014 at 6:56 p.m.

Even if there was a better guile in japan, they would crack at tournaments and get bodied, getting bodied not because they're bad, but because of tournament nerves.
