Tekken X Street Fighter on Namco-Bandai's latest release schedule, still set for a 2014 release

Posted by Nicholas 'MajinTenshinhan' Taylor • February 15, 2014 at 7:16 a.m. PST

While the word's been very quite on Namco-Bandai's side of the Street Fighter and Tekken crossover, Tekken X Street Fighter, despite Capcom's side, Street Fighter X Tekken, having been released almost two years ago now, it showed up again today in Namco-Bandai's latest release schedule.

The release schedule was sent out this week to several sites, and on it, Tekken X Street Fighter was listed as a 2014 release. There was no further information regarding the title, but it at the very least confirms that they have not cancelled the project officially.

Why would anybody think the game was cancel? I rather for them to show nothing, then tease us with little stuff to get us mad and iterated. People got to remember that they're making the Tekken version... meaning the SF cast will be having more stuff in their arsenal.

Which at the end. the SF players won't like the game cause its 3D, like the Tekken players didn't like the SF version cause it was 2D.

Anyway, I bet TxSf will end up being a lot better than the game from capcom.

gohan16ken said on February 15, 2014 at 7:29 a.m.

That is not true. Fighting games (except for SC5) are release at least one year after they are publically shown. And Namco usually release Tekken games in arcade before console. The earliest this game will come is Feb 15, 2015. But I bet more like fall 2015. That 2014 release date is probably for arcade.

The concept is just too sweet, this game could have allot of potential. I mean tekken games are always very well produced. Hopefully it doesn't go down the free to play route but the hype will be pure once a new trailer comes out! People should get tweeting Harada and see if he spills any little info

Really hope a bunch of the Final Fight cast make it in. Cody/Rolento/Guy/Hugo/Maki all would be good fits for the 3D Tekken style.

I'm also REALLY interested to see how they balance Dhalsim's stretchy limbs. They have a lot of potential to be OP (zoning a game style not known for being able to zone.) or completely useless (side steps)

More than anything though: PC Port plz!

Ahh... so its going to be a 2014 release? I do hope Tekken X Street Fighter has everything in set since there hasn't been much information for awhile and we haven't seen the SF characters making their appearance besides a Ryu prototype which the lighting & details weren't finished at all wearing Paul's gi which is white like Tekken 6 colors in the customization and 2 piece of artwork that features Ryu & Chun-Li. Plus which month will it take place anyway, if they do have the time? (unless if part of the TXSF was being created, without a single mention of detail)

Will see how TXSF does when it gets released on 2014.

I just don't want this to turn out as another Street Fighter X Tekken where the majority of people never gave it a chance. I'm really exited for this.

So I take it that in your reality there is no such thing as a middle ground, no reasonable expectation of rates which in this case would be the average development time that can be used as context. It's just people complaining for the sake of complaining.

Tekken has been basically John Madden for a good long while now. I don't know why ya'll think that this game will bring something new to the table. All you're going to get is reskinned characters with the same copy and paste create-an-animations. After all, that is how most of the Tekken roster was made :P
And since the Tekken franchise music quality has gone down, all this is going to be is just a common generic anime title.

MegaMayneX said on February 15, 2014 at 8:30 a.m.

Whats you definition of never gave it a chance. You mean those of us that bored quickly of sfxturd. I did atleast get the platinum trophy in the gimmick. That first trailer and what we bought was not the same. An pros that "liked" quit it the second it was not going to be at evo. An some pros didnt even bother with it.

#35
GodPride said on February 15, 2014 at 8:31 a.m.

I'm expecting the arsenal of moves to be unnecessary huge and the characters to be mostly homogenized. I don't expect a veteran like Vega to play like Vega and still be Tekken, but I'm still looking forward to Harada's take of the SF cast.

That is definitely not a fan-made picture, this picture was official and was first shown back in 2010 when SFXT was early & MVC3 was in development. This pic was also used as TXSF first trailer (even though it was like 5 sec. worth a trailer which was way too short) in Gamescom 2010.

I think Harada and his team will probably do something good... like how Capcom did with Jin stance and giving him a orb attack, Also Hwoarang stance and hunting Hawk. Capcom just put their twist to it, which it came out great. I think Namco is going to do the same with the unique characters.

If you read vg247 article, you would see that the 2013 release date is "TBC". We're looking at 4th quarter 2014 release or the more likely 2015 release. It might not necessarily come out for the arcades first though. We shall see.

#43

imo TEKKEN Rev was put out to be filler and kill time while they finish developing TK✖️SF and don't forget guys this year is THE 20th ANNIVERSARY of TEKKEN so, Harada-sama is going to do It BIG!!! Not to mention I'm pretty certain this title will be for our next gen systems PlaySation 4 and XBox One! Hella fun times are right around the corner. . . . .

#44
Wardog said on February 15, 2014 at 8:55 a.m.

Actually you're right... even though Tekken revolution is a beta for TxSF... its also a time filler for the next installment to come out. Like they did with T5, by giving us T5DR online to be a time filler while they're working on T6.

Now you see TTT2 and TR being the Time filler/beta For when TxSF comes out.

#45
ROSHINOBI said on February 15, 2014 at 9:07 a.m.

what would be cool if Ryu can transform into E.ryu like kazuya turns into devil on the fly...but in all honesty the tekken side needs a new fighting engine...they have speedy SF characters to animate . I think the soulcalibur 8way run engine would do this game some awesome justice.

Just do a T7 already. I can already see the Tekken fans not liking it or the SF fans because the game is different from what there usually used to. Hope it doesn't become another SFXT mess.

Crossover fighters gotten stale over the years so it will take more then slapping SF and Tekken characters on a game promo art to get me hyped.

Namco can take all the time they want to develop TxSF. I'm still having fun with TTT2, plus this year there are some really interesting games. Like Jojo ASB and GG Xrd,

#56
Lockm said on February 15, 2014 at 10:01 a.m.

Development for TxSF probably started a bit after TTT2 because they have said multiple times that they would first focus on the porting of TTT2 from arcade to console and support it for a while after release with a small team. Then game the discussion of next gen consoles and which platform(s) BN should focus on, part of team also busy developing Tekken Revolution. U imagine development started around may 2012, so only 1.5 years ago. I can see it releaseing at the end of 2014.

Surprised so many people thougt this game was cancelled, no way that would happen and they thought development was started right when the announcement of the crossovers became public.

#57
courte said on February 15, 2014 at 10:03 a.m.

as a fighter, the reason i didn't like SFxT was that some tekken players were drastically changed. granted yes the playstyle is different that part i can accept. but what capcom deemed essential or enough for some characters was wackness. case in point, raven. what were they thinking when they decided "yup. these moves." surely someone had to say "wait you're missing some of his best stuff." but nope. they responded with "let's give him a ninja star instead of a twice hitting launcher, any back turned attacks, and other bright ideas!"

i'd like to think i'm just butt hurt ganryu or Feng didn't make it in, but thinking a little more i don't think i'd be happy with the changes/the lacking

I think you we're just like me... you like the game but coming from a Tekken perspective side, you're more use to Tekken game style and feel. Which its understandable.

That's why I said SF fans won't like TxSF that much cause they're use to their core game play (which is understandable) and Tekken fans didn't like SfxT for the same reason (again understandable).

#62
Basketweiner said on February 15, 2014 at 10:42 a.m.

Can't wait to see those street fighter characters with those clean, realistic tekken graphics. As far as Dhalsim goes I too am very curious as to how he'll work. The closest any character has come to him has to be Ogre. He's got the stretchy limb attacks, and he's got that move where he goes from laying down to all of a sudden being in the air coming at you with his horns. So that's kinda like a teleport. Aside from the obvious sf cast, I hope makoto, Remy, and Charlie make the cut.

You do realize that "the tournament scene" is literally less than 1 percent of the entire fighting game audience, right?

Top EVO games get at most 2000 entrants. These games sell MILLIONS OF COPIES. Do the math. Who cares if the tourney scene will drop it (which you don't even know will happen). Most people here don't play tournaments.

Bravo. No matter what we know this will be better than Capcom's train wreck. While Like anyone else I would love a new game in my hands as soon as possible. There are the casuals who make look at it as say "wait isn't this that one game that was terrible?" and non casuals like me who are still salty as hell over the last Street Fighter/Tekken crossover might be too salty to try a new one. I on the other hand can't forgive Capcom, but can excuse Namco as I like Harada and believe in him. So a new game soon is nice, but given the circumstances since it conformed this year(based on what they want)the later in the year is the better.

Almost every Final Fight character IMO will work well.

Cody and Guy ESPECIALLY.

Guy's run would be great if they gave him the ability to do some major carry with hozanto and such so he could knock an opponent back and keep up the pressure after knocking them to the walls. Plus he is known for his chain combos. His crMK 2 hitter would be great for avoiding mids and highs. His bushin flip - throw seems like a natural fit. Wall jumps will fit well too. The only thing I'm worried about is his elbow drop.

Cody's badspray sounds great in a tekken style game. He already is the character with the most normals in SF4 so I imagine that gives them a lot of area to work with for designing stuff, plus he can get his Final Fight chain combo back for the first time since Alpha 3. His dodge mechanics seem like natural fits. I'm curious how they'll handle his knife though, will it just be a stance change or will he have to actually pick it up?
