Stream directory no longer lists non-fighting games, additional improvements may be on the way

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • August 8, 2014 at 10:08 p.m. PDT

Josh 'TheUncharted' Kapple made a nifty improvement to our live stream directory based on some of the new features Twitch has made available to developers.

Now, for a streamer to show up in our live listing, they need to be streaming a game that's approved by our team — e.g. an actual fighting game.

If a streamer who normally hosts fighting games decides to stream a bit of Call of Duty, they'll no longer show up in our listing for the time they're running that game.

As soon as they start streaming a fighting game, they'll show up again, though.

We're also looking at adding a few more bells and whistles to our stream directory in the very near future, so please keep checking back.

After the jump you'll find a list of games our stream directory supports, and if we missed anything you think should be included, please leave a comment below explaining why.

Applicable games for the EventHubs stream directory

Keep in mind, this list accepts partial matches, so if you're streaming any Virtua Fighter title, or any Street Fighter game, it'll show up.

• Arcana Heart
• BlazBlue

• Darkstalkers

Why isn't a game like DBZ on here?

Catalyst said on August 8, 2014 at 10:11 p.m.

The biggest omission here is probably MUGEN, and since the game isn't played at tournaments or outside of a casual setting, I doubt we'll be making it a viable selection.

I'm happy to hear people's reasons why we should include it, so feel free to leave them below, but I can say that title has the odds stacked pretty well against it because it's never played at tournaments.

Because it's not played at tournaments.

Mugen should be on here, because Salty Bet is awesome.

With the new staff, new sections, new tiers lists and fixes like this, EH is progressively getting better each day. We appreciate it

Now seriously, whens SF EX2 tier list

MomoZoned said on August 8, 2014 at 10:22 p.m.

Ah, So it has to be played at big tourneys? I've seen some Budokai 3 tourneys with around 60 people and then some local ones.

HooliganComboFTW said on August 8, 2014 at 10:25 p.m.

Ah no wonder I missed seeing SaltyBet as a regular in the top 5 viewer streams.

sarif2soon said on August 8, 2014 at 10:25 p.m.

I just woke up and read that list. I took a look at it and read "Mortal Blood" and I was like "woah, dude, that must be a dope game".

I still keep reading it like that.

Big improvements and updates site-round! Love it! Now only

Oops sorry accidentally hit enter on that last post lol... Now only if we could get some iOS app updates for all the new features ;)

I really feel Saltybets should be added manually via an exception. It's such a FCG-meet up.

#11
JoeLewis said on August 8, 2014 at 10:47 p.m.

I'm curious if the directory added additional streamers? Such as myself, NYC poem especially.

#12
Ozyroth said on August 8, 2014 at 10:48 p.m.

You sould add Smash bros Melle and Brawl too, not just PM.

That's a good idea show the streams on EH when they are actually playing a FG. Keep the good work guys!

#13
eyekantspele said on August 8, 2014 at 10:48 p.m.

I actually wish Salty would go back to covering events instead of only EVO.

#14
Lemres said on August 8, 2014 at 11:16 p.m.

Mugen should be there... because it's a fighting game...

#15
BlackMasamune said on August 8, 2014 at 11:19 p.m.

So UltraChen, SDR, ATP, The Fray, the show that sucks, and the On Blast Show will no longer show up if they aren`t actually playing a fighting game?

Also there's a mistake here, why is Divekick on the list?

#16
Tragedy said on August 8, 2014 at 11:39 p.m.

So Smash Bros should no longer appear, right? Kappa

#17
Catalyst said on August 8, 2014 at 11:46 p.m.

Creating sections/tier lists is actually a pretty involved process for our team.

Going back and revisiting older games typically only happens when a re-release is in the works.

I can say for sure, if Capcom/Arika re-releases SF EX, we'll definitely add it into the site.

#18
Catalyst said on August 8, 2014 at 11:48 p.m.

You should be in there for sure, I added you personally a few weeks back.

What's Poem's stream? I'll make sure we add him in, too, if he's not in there already.

#19
Catalyst said on August 8, 2014 at 11:49 p.m.

All Smash games should show up, BTW, not just Project M.

Thanks for the feedback, nice to hear you're enjoying the change.

#20
Catalyst said on August 8, 2014 at 11:56 p.m.

If those shows list themselves as streaming a game in our list, they'll appear, if not, they won't.

Generally those shows all talk about games we cover, so if they list an applicable game, I don't think it'll cause any issues at all, they should show up as they always have.

Control on whether or not these streams appear in our directory is actually up to the streamer now — all they need to do is show themselves as broadcasting one of the games we've listed and that's it, they're good to go.

They also need to be in our overall directory, manually added, but that's something we're looking at making a moot issue as well, so all new streams are automatically added.

We're investigating if this is even possible at the moment, which is why I didn't mention it in the news post, but we're hoping to eliminate that bottleneck.

Good stuff guys, getting rid of saltybet was a good move, frustrating to see a bunch of viewers on one stream, only to realise they are watching MUGEN cpus

sorry english is not my first language,

why is it funny? want to laugh too :)

#25
SummerUndercover said on August 9, 2014 at 3:01 a.m.

Salty Bet is not ending just because it won't show up on the stream list. Why do you need it listed if you know that the channel is streaming non-stop everyday? It's pointless and takes a potential spot from channels that have more relevant content.

Plenty of streams that were streaming FGs were not listed the past few days, and nobody responds to tech support tickets.

r/Kappa has what a stream monster needs.

caruga said on August 9, 2014 at 5:01 a.m.

Well that sucks.

#30
Oddness said on August 9, 2014 at 5:17 a.m.

That is a very good and welcome change. But sadly the livestream ticker is still stuck in the past for me like several days now, with the exception that the point in time is now when you did the changes.

#31
riku45 said on August 9, 2014 at 6:36 a.m.

well at least we won't have league of legends listed on their from ex FGC players..

Muunilinst10 said on August 9, 2014 at 7:45 a.m.

So I guess no more gundam xtreme on EHubs anymore?

#33
kabal31082 said on August 9, 2014 at 8 a.m.

I think any fighting game should be fair game for coverage on EH. It shouldn't be limited to just tournament played games.

So many players go and take breaks from modern fighters to play retro fighters, that aren't covered by the site.

Maybe set up a user generated section to sub info for them, so we can start building databases. It would be so much more helpful than having to go and look elsewhere on the internet.

#34
Soap said on August 9, 2014 at 8:28 a.m.

So if you stream Street Fighter 2010 will that show up?

#35
gluemchen said on August 9, 2014 at 8:35 a.m.

Quite a few people are moving over to hitbox.tv. A shame your a twitch only thing. Too bad.

#36

Are you guys going to cover Hitbox.tv ? Seems like this may be an issue soon so you all at eh might wanna get the jump on it.

#37
Mike said on August 9, 2014 at 10:16 a.m.

Hey eventhubs, you guys should add thelefthandedmonkey.

#38
HyperCombinationFinish said on August 9, 2014 at 10:57 a.m.

Glad Eventhubs did this as it was annoying to see people playing League or Cod on a fighting game site. I do think Mugen should be on there though. Sure it's not played at tournaments, but it is still technically a fighting game. Also there are technically tournaments for it as Saltybet does run weekly CPU Mugen tournaments. Sure they're CPU tournaments, but is that not still technically a tournament? It was also played at UFGT this year so, I dunno. Seems like it should be included and I don't see how it would hurt anything if it was.

Catalyst said on August 9, 2014 at 11:13 a.m.

If Hitbox.tv is something the community picks up at large, and they have an API we can access to bring them into the stream dir, it's possible we'll pick them up.

#41
gluemchen said on August 9, 2014 at 11:33 a.m.

I do believe Mugen is also a part of the FGC. It shouldn't be left out imo.

Please add "Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs.", "Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Full Boost" & "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle". All are fighting games worth coverage.

#44
RedRapperSux said on August 9, 2014 at 12:40 p.m.

It was very, very annoying. I actually sent a few e-mails over the last 2 years about it. Glad something has finally happened.

#45
gluemchen said on August 9, 2014 at 1:52 p.m.

They have a usable API already if that is of any interrest. As for waiting until it grows. Isn't that something you would want to promote? Like growth of competition also alternatives. Why wait? I mean implementing takes time and costs money i understand that. But doing it now would ensure the growth that makes it beneficial. Wouldn't you agree?

#46
J_Talbain said on August 9, 2014 at 1:57 p.m.

need to add Vampire, Mugen, Gundam, Dragon Ball Z, Rumble Fish, Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, Bleach, Rival Schools, Breakers Revenge, Garou Mark of the Wolves, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, Castlevania, Primal Rage, Bloody Roar, Sonic, Fighting Vipers and Clay Fighter just saying this are all fighting games and need to show up on the search.

#47
gluemchen said on August 9, 2014 at 2:03 p.m.

I mean the new base line up us fine. But i have to agree. I hope they add all the fighting games. No matter how unpopular or unknown they are. At the end of the day they are fighting games and who knows. Through having them listed people might get interrested after seeing how the games play. Maybe the stream list can be divded into tabs in the future. All Fighting Games, Airdashers, Old School etc. But at the end of the day you can only incorporate what twitch offers game wise for listing. So there is that one limitation.

#48
RedRapperSux said on August 9, 2014 at 2:11 p.m.

But some of those aren't.....

#49

JRXP2011 said on August 9, 2014 at 2:35 p.m.

RageGamingVideos is on your live stream list right now playing non fighting games on Wii. "Ray, Fluke and Hollow play Wii Games".

Is that an approved game Kappa

#51
gluemchen said on August 9, 2014 at 2:39 p.m.

Wow.....
There needs to be a report streamer. I can see this being a thing. RIP

#52
Catalyst said on August 9, 2014 at 3:18 p.m.

Just report him to Twitch. There's an option in there to report the streamer, choose the "Other" category.

Hopefully they'll get in touch with the streamer and have him more consistently update the game they're streaming.
