Ultra Street Fighter 4 update (PS3/X360/Arcade) on August 8 removes Poison's while-rising glitch, Rolento's invisible wall jump, and more

Following the release of Ultra Street Fighter 4 in Japan today, Capcom has announced that an update patch that addresses a number of known bugs will be released tomorrow, August 8, for the PS3, X360 and arcade versions of the game.

This update is not a rebalance patch, but rather fixes some of unintended properties on a number of characters' moves. Most notably, with this update, Rolento's invisible wall jump and Poison's while-rising glitch will be removed.

Check out our translations of the fixes or changes below.

Note: An earlier version of this story had said that this update was the bug fix patch for Ultra Street Fighter 4 that Capcom's Peter "Combofiend" Rosas announced back at EVO 2014.

According to EventHubs reader TheTimelyHoward, this is not the case as some of the fixes mentioned are not implemented. The August 8 patch, however, will fix a number of known bugs, as listed below.

Blanka


- Crouching MK: On counter-hit the advantage on hit is now +8F instead of +5F. This was achieved by reducing the duration of the hit stop animation on Blanka's side (originally the hit-stop duration was the same on both Blanka and his opponent)

Vega


- Flying Barcelona Special: Made it so that the Rolling Izuna Drop special would connect even if the opponent was struck with Vega's knee during the upward rising motion when he is in the corner (TL note: if Vega's opponent is jumping in the corner, even if the upward motion hits, there's no way to connect Rolling Izuna Drop previously).

M. Bison


- Red Focus Attack/EX Red Focus Attack: Under certain special circumstances, there is now a 1 point damage difference between M. Bison's Lv1 Red Focus Attack and his EX Red Focus Attack.

El Fuerte


- Close standing LP: The chain-cancelled version of this move used to have a smaller hitbox than the regular version; this has been changed so that it's the same regardless if you're using the standard version or chain-cancelled version of the move.

Seth


- Tanden Storm: When the opponent is downed by any hit other than the final hit in this super move, there was a bug that prevented Delayed Standing from being performed -- this has been fixed.

Fei Long


- Crouching LK: When chain-cancelled, this move's active frames would activate 1F earlier than usual -- this has been fixed.

Dee Jay


- Medium Jackknife Maximum: On counter-hit, this move used to do less damage than the normal-hit version -- this has been fixed.

Hakan


- Crouching LK: When chain-cancelled, this move's recovery would gain an additional 1F -- this has been fixed.

Juri


- Far standing LK: When chain-cancelled, this move's active frames would activate 1F later than usual -- this has been fixed.

Yang


- Close and far standing LK: When chain-cancelled, this move's active frames would activate 1F later than usual -- this has been fixed.

Evil Ryu


- EX Hurricane Kick: Under certain conditions, this move would not connect against a portion of the roster.

Oni


- Focus Attack/Red Focus Attack: The hurtbox for Oni's Red Focus Attack has been expanded so that it's now the exact same save as the one in his regular Focus Attack.

Poison


- When standing from crouching motion: A bug that made Poison's hurtbox around her legs temporarily disappear during this motion has been fixed.

- Close standing LP and LK, far standing LK, crouching LP and LK: The chain-cancelling input window for these moves had been different from the ones for other characters -- this has been corrected.

- Crouching LP: When chain-cancelled, this move's active frames would activate 1F later than usual -- this has been fixed.

- Far standing LK: When chain-cancelled, this move's active frames would stay active for 1F longer than usual. Also, the move's recovery had an additional 3F. Both properties have been fixed.

Rolento


- Mekong Delta Escape: Fixed a bug where Rolento would be able to use this move to jump off of an invisible wall.

Hugo


- Standing LP: When chain-cancelled, this move's recovery would have +3F added to it -- this has been fixed.

- Crouching LP: When chain-cancelled, this move's recovery would have -3F less than the regular non-chain-cancelled version -- this has been fixed.

- Focus Attack/Red Focus Attack: During the part of the animation when Hugo releases his Focus Attack/Red Focus Attack, a hurtbox in the area around Hugo's legs has been added.

Decapre


- EX Scramble (Light+Medium): When used at a certain timing, the EX version could not be activated -- this has been fixed.

- Focus Attack/Red Focus Attack: The hurtbox on Decapre's Red Focus Attack has been expanded to match the one with her regular Focus Attack.

Wow, why are they so afraid of giving Blanka anything good? The way they edited his cr.mkmeans that he can't gain extra charge time on counterhit. Should've just increased the hitstun and called it a day.

I hate to spoil the ending, but the list they put up doesn't really mention how the new characters have basically broken hitboxes at all. I don't think this is the "fix" that people have been waiting for.

This should give many players and consumers confidence in Ultra. It's being re-branded and tooled to allow for fixes and patches for the game to remain competitive over the 2014-2015 season. As seen in other MLG and other FGC titles like League and Injustice; when a company takes the time to tweak characters to prevent abuse and impractical match progression the games are more widely received. It's just up to Capcom to follow through with the proper support.

You can chain cancel into Fei's cr.lk from other lights, just not into itself.
E.G. cl.lp xx cr.lk will work, but cr.lk xx cr.lk will not work and must be linked.

No matter how under nefed or over nerfed people feel a character is, if a character is breaking the basic rules that everyone has to follow in the game engine, then its considered a bug. The direct nerfs to Seth was made by purposefully changing hit properties, damage, and frames and or adding/taking away certain moves. Even if you hate it, it was intended meaning they consider him balanced till the unforseen future balance patch.

How about fixing Sagat's Ultra 1 on midscreen? It works correctly on corners, but now the opponent falls out of the animation most of the time and you don't get the full damage, as if the damage nerf for this ultra wasn't enough (-_-)

Thanks for letting us know, TheTimelyHoward. You're right, this probably was not the one announced at EVO; but it is a stopgap patch that fixes some bugs that should be corrected ASAP -- like Poison's while-rising glitch.

Cammy : all LP normals cancel window for chaining is longer than the recovery for the attack itself. (Hitting LP several frames after the attack has already recovered can still result in a chain combo. This makes it hard to link lights together or plink to MP or MK attacks) thanks crapcom for not giving a f--k!

It doesn't say which move c.LP is chain-cancelled from. All it says is that the chain-cancelled version of the move had been different from the regular version.

So you are saying these changes make the guide obsolete? Most of these changes are BUG fixes, outside of Blanka's change I don't see much here that even touches the surface of the guide.

Correction: Counterhit data isn't noted on moves. Only "on hit/block" Again these are bug fixes

Yeah, so even though you can't chain cancel c.LK anymore, you can still chain cancel another move into c.LK, and that c.LK would be 3f instead of 4f.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I might make one for this patch for the luls, but it will only feature 2-3 combos, since that's all the new stuff it offers >.<

It still cant but I assume that the active frame window to chain was 1 frame shorter. So while Fei is +4 on hit, crlk is only active for 2 frames. By it activating earlier, Fei only had 1 active frame to chain. That's how I read it. I may be wrong

Odd that Yun isn't mentioned, maybe they haven't posted his changes yet. I do know his CG throw range was secretly buffed, they needed changing. Also surprised Hugo's stun info wasn't addressed. He has the longest inv frames when stunned. I also see Fei Longs crmp counterhit damage wasn't corrected. That was another bug reported.

It would have been a better idea to release the guide as a E-Magazine rather than as a hard copy. Like many hard copy media, it's very difficulty to say current when what you've just printed is yesterday's news.

Hallelujah! I wish more people would complain about TRIALS. I was so let down when they released AE without new trials. They are so much fun and give you a feel for each character.

I feel like Capcom has 3 people working on USF4...maybe 2.

Everyone complaining here, you don't realize it's probably a ton of work to fix all these bugs... Going through thousands of lines of coding to find minor errors. Bugs have to be first priority, can't have a broken game, I'm sure now that these patches are out they can shift more focus to the balancing patch as well

Either that or the interns are back in school and the regular devs are back :-p

Yeah he's junk bro. Keep him the same buff his health. This version of Seth is more about reads and patience so he needs the health to allow it.

His ability to stun is greatly reduced causing him to go in and get some damage and get back out. But one mistake and any ultra or top tier bnb puts him in a losing situation. His wall jump is so slow now that there's no way to make a come back without 3 bars.
Up his health to evils and give him a chance at least.

I like the fact that they didn't fix the Bug on Hugo's Ultra II.

- Ultra II *DOES NOT* connect on jump in targets

- Ultra II *DOES NOT* connect on cartwheel backdashes (Cammy, Decapre & Juri).

Way to go, CRAPCOM.

Word on the street is that there is a community driven project underway which will allow Vanilla SF4 and Super SF4 to be played using the original arcade versions on PC.

It will allow the arcade ranking and points systems to be used and work in exactly the same way, but be fully available anywhere. Kinda like how they patched MW2 for dedicated servers.

Think 'cps2shock' and 'darksoft'.

The way Ultra is turning out so far, it would probably be less buggy too.

Rushed patch. Nowhere near all of the fixes needed. Heck non of those listed fixes are game breakers anyway. Just some non-sense most people did not even know about.

Really hope there is another patch under-way but doesn't it cost them money to patch on Xbox every time?

It would be nice to see Seth, Sim, and Deejay again.
