'There has never been a uniform policy on the drawings.' – Interview with Daigo Ikeno discusses art direction for Street Fighter, Capcom vs SNK, more

Posted by Ryan 'Tryken' Tullis • August 2, 2014 at 7:40 p.m. PDT

A recent video interview with Daigo Ikeno, the last remaining illustrator at Capcom to have worked on Street Fighter through the 1990s, gives us a behind the scenes look at the art design for the series.

The veteran artist discusses his various influences, the freedom Capcom gave illustrators, as well as the general atmosphere within his department. This is a great piece of fighting game history from one of its inside people.

Check below to watch the interview with Ikeno-san.

Edayan is still at Capcom doing Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter stuff... but I guess the EX series don't count as official Street Fighter titles :P

Great Interview. Very humble and respectful on paying tribute to Akira Yasuda (akiman) Kinu Nishimura and Bengus.

Would love to see more frequent interviews with the artists and animators of fighting games. And I know the process if very nerve wracking and hard work.

Would love to see more of inside look of the main Developer of Street Fighter (Dimps) always very secretive stuff.

Daigo Ikeno - Street Fighter Art God
Daigo Umehara - Street Fighter Gaming God

Noticing a pattern here.
Gotta name my kid Daigo so he can be a God of something.

Yeah some of these artists are really always keeping themselves off the radar. Specially bengus.

Never seen Kinu Nishimura in person anywhere either other than her works.(Last game she made was the 9 hours, 9 doors , 9 persons and code of princess) plus lots of freelance in both anime and games.
She has no personal site but you can find her work everywhere:

Found Bengus (gouda cheese twitter to find out what he is up to)

and was working on a game called G-reco

Akiman is a little easier to find, also lots of freelance on game and anime design work:
